You are not a bad doctor, i know you are an exceptional clinician. I am a psychiatric nurse and i’ve followed you for a while now. As a long in the tooth nurse I’ve taken a lot from Rens story and other fans experience of our services. Mostly though people relate to Ren, he makes people feel heard. I think that’s a takeaway for us all in our overstretched and underfunded services.

Ren's sickness started 13 years ago. So, his music is a summary of those 13 years of pain. I highly recommend Ren's first interview he did with Justin Hawkins. It's the first time he really got into explaining his journey with his sickness.

This doctor represents his experience with countless doctors over a decade period of being misdiagnosed as a psychiatric patient, when he was actually and unknowingly suffering physically from Lyme Disease. There were some along the way that prescribed meds FIRST, before they knew much of anything about him, that happens the world over. And the second part of that song is about the fact that right as he got sick, he got a record deal with Sony, but that he soon realized he couldn’t meet the obligations as he got sicker and then was dropped. And he’s been really successful independently by singing about what’s important to him, unencumbered by a record labels control.

I hope you read this. On the surface it may seem that people got upset because they are "Ren's fans". It's much deeper than that. So many people relate to what Ren is trying to portray with his music and videos. They don't get upset because someone didn't "like" the song/video. They get frustrated with people who just don't get the message. So many people can relate with the pill pushing, misdiagnosing and being ignored because it happens. Having 2 autoimmune diseases myself, I know how hard you have to fight to be heard. Hateful and superficial comments may seem like "fans" lashing out because you disagree but it goes way deeper than that. Alot of people felt heard for the first time in Ren.

Many of us feel so strongly because we’ve also had similar experiences within some areas of the health profession. I’ve had quite a few appalling experiences, the worst left me in septic shock, organs shutting down and on the operating table less than two hours after a gp told me to take a couple of paracetamol. I also fought for nearly 14 years to get a correct diagnosis for my autoimmune diseases and have been left with damaged lungs due to incorrect meds being prescribed. (I’ve learnt over the years that having my husband attend appointments makes the consultations more productive - almost as if my gender makes my pain less significant) The frustration, anger, the utter despair this leaves you with while you’re trying to fight the system for the help you need can leave you bitter and quick to criticise so I’m not surprised you received somewhat of a back lash from the many fans who can relate to very similar experiences. I was close to responding myself as your empathy doesn’t come across very well but I knew you’d be inundated with feedback far more eloquent than mine. I should also point out that I’ve also had some great experiences from the NHS too, including a spinal fusion and other surgeries that kept me mobile for a while. I’m a frequent flyer and see the pressure the nhs is under and appreciate the limited time and resources available.

Ren spent almost a decade being mis-diagnosed with M.E. instead of Lyme. At one point, a doctor even told him maybe he should get a hobby. He eventually (on his own) found a doctor in Brussels who correctly diagnosed him but he's still in treatment because of the delay and damage done. This is Ren's experience and it's also the experience of many of his fans. It's difficult to understand a doctors need for emotional distance (which can appear dismissive) when you know something is wrong and desperate for help. I would rather your honest reaction than a pretend one... just know that honesty is not always rewarded.

I think the responses you got were the result of many of us being triggered at the very beginning based on our own experiences with doctors that seemed dismissive to what we were telling them. There are quite a few of us who have been given meds to treat symptoms that temporarily go away but then pop back up again or something similar to it and in my case I knew there was a root cause they weren't addressing or finding but (no offense because you may not & I know for psych doctors it's different as sometimes it's just a guessing game to get us the right combo and dosage of meds because our hormone levels change with our moods so it's way harder to test) had several doctors that thought they knew better then me what I was feeling in MY body. Anyway, sorry if our getting triggered triggered you back or made you upset. The Renegades are mostly good, genuine, empathetic people.. many of us have just been through a lot. ✌️&❤️

Really interesting reaction. I appreciate honest reactions and do not expect everyone to enjoy the same things that I do. As others have said, a lot of Ren's fans (me included) have struggled with medical professionals and really relate to that aspect of Ren's message. I am a veterinarian and understand both sides of the issue of dealing with the medical profession. Both the over-worked clinicians and the dismissed patients. I am still fighting to get a diagnosis for my chronic illness. I saw a neurologist for chronic headaches, incoordination and speech issues and he diagnosed me with carpal tunnel syndrome and when I asked how that affected my head and feet, he said he didn't know and told me to sit down more. This was over 20 years ago and I am still fighting for a diagnosis. A lot of Ren's fans have had similar experiences and that is why some are quite sensitive and admittedly biased against medical professionals. Most of us Renegades are truly nice and understanding people and will support you even if you don't agree with our perspectives all the time. Looking forward to more reactions and subbed to your channel ❤❤

As a mental health professional and have been subbed to you for a while, I did find your review of Hi Ren dismissive right at the start. I personally didn't think you gave the intro enough time, i was facinated by it wondering where it was going to go, and i felt you stopped it way to soon and made judgement on that. Personally it did irritate me a bit. Obviously that is your perogative , the song isn't made for stopping and starting to be fair. As for Sick boi... I think it does represent his personal experience and does in my opinion reflect what patients face, especially the worried well. As for the negativity towards you as a psychiatrist, you were just giving your opnion and didn't see it as most others did and that's fair enough. I am a HUGE Ren fan btw 😊

What i got from what you said, is that doctors care more about money than their patients. You said yourself that your associates complain that they only get 10 minutes with their patients, and it's not enough. Why not make the appts longer? Because you won't make the same amount of money. That's the only reason I can think of. Also, just because you don't like something, that doesn't make it incorrect. I went undiagnosed for around 18 years. The first doctor I went to for my debilitating pain patted me on the shoulder and literally said "sometimes it can be hard to be a mommy". So excuse me if I don't trust you. Ankylosing spondylitis gets worse the longer you don't treat it, and i now use a wheelchair because of that man. Give me one person with a chronic condition of any kind, physical or mental, that hasn't been mistreated by a doctor. Ren can take care of himself, he doesn't need me, or any of us to defend him. If you had merely disliked the song, I wouldn't have been triggered by you. It was the whining about the "trope" of bagging on medical doctors. When i was still able to work, i was a scrub nurse in the O.R.. I know there are some real pieces of @#$& out there with medical degrees. Prove you aren't one, and accept that it's not an attention grabbing trope to not trust MD's. It's your duty to work to make that change. Not for us to magically just say "aww, we'll forgive you for ruining our lives since you pouted!" It's going to take hard work. Roll up those sleeves, and get to it.

I find a message about consumption in its many forms. Disease and illness consumes our bodies and minds, music industry consumes artistry, capitalism consumes planetary resources. To the point, monetezation consumes medical practice. When I consider Ren's years of mis-diagnosis and compare it to my own treatment in such fields, I empathize with the perception of being butchered meat being processed rather than a human patient. I personally have a view that pharmacology has turned the approach of treatment into a line up of pills aimed at symptoms (thank you for playing, next patient please). I witness pills pratically thrown at symptoms rather than a professional being consulted to spend more than the commoditized 10 minutes of time to actually look for the root of the problem to work to develop a cohesive treatement plan. A follow-up a few weeks later, it's the same story, with some sort of "oh, that one didn't work, here try this, see you in a few weeks." When viewed in this way, it demonstrates that "The System" is SICK and needs fixing. I ask you as a professional, do you stand up against the time constraint? Do you cut-off time with a patient, knowing you have your next one waiting in the lobby for your booked up schedule? The patient is reaching out for help, and then is allotted only a few minutes to try to express everything, and then recieves an insta-flash decision on some quick answer because the doctor doesn't have available time. How much time do you get to "review" an individual's case and fully catch up so that you can thoughtfully integrate new information from the appointment to a full view of the bigger picture pointing to root causes? How often do you actually ask: "What's causing this" rather than "How to address this symptom"? Another thing I will point out is that the very beginning of the video, we see Ren barely holding it together, suffering internally, and when he actually "speaks" to the clinician, uses a measured pleasant tone. I feel patients don't get to express the reality of suffering and situations, rather we have to maintain an appropriate, respectful decorum. And then I perceive that the clinician is rushed, detatched, disconnected, unempathetic, and NO, as a patient I often do not feel "heard." What options do we have? Play along, or be declined continued treatment? Find another doctor, starting all over from scratch, trying to bring them up to current times with a fresh start of history? Tell me which of these portions in the phsycial and mental health INDUSTRY is really aimed at treating the patient, and not making money? Here's the point. Sick Boi sums it up. Can I ask you to watch this video again, with a view from the patient, rather than the doctor?

@Monica-sw9ld 6 ай бұрын
Thank you. That was perfectly said. So nail on the head that I had to stop reading it for a minute bc my eyes were welling up with tears of recognition. You play along and take meds and have procedures that you know will harm you, not help you, bc insurance requires it before further treatment. Doctors not listening, being distracted, not preparing for your visit. Leaving with questions unanswered, while you get worse and waste away physically. I'm there. And it all ties in with the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries' greed, not to mention their investors, who are often lawmakers, government officials, and politicians. Money over care. Money over lives. 🤷‍♀️

First, I agree with everything you said after the video. Next, as someone with mental health disorders, I agree that it is portrayed a lot that psychiatrists push pills and therapists or psychologists are just saying nonsense and don't help. My psychiatrist and therapist saved my life with the right medications, therapy, and not giving up on me. I spent 10 years in a bipolar depression/manic and anxiety episode, 4 psych hospital visits, lots of self-harming, and being suicidal before getting better. I went through 3 psychiatrists and then found the right one for me and my therapist, and it took them 6 years to find the right med combo and teach me the therapy skills needed to live again. When I see TV shows or movies or even the news talk about negatively about psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, and the use of medications it's very upsetting. I don't tell anyone that I take medication or that I have a mental illness, not because I'm afraid to talk about it but because of being told that I shouldn't take medication. Also when I'm around friends, family, or other people and they bring up this subject, I want to tell them that some people desperately need medication but I just sit back and bite my tongue. Then go home, look at all my medication and wonder if I really need it, then remember the past, and take my medication. It makes me very sad and stigmatized.

Lol, thank you for this reaction. I would say that Ren isn't against the medical system completely but says it needs to do better. See his 1 million subscribers video. I personally think, blame, a massive amount of the issues I have with the medical industry on insurance companies. What I like to think about Ren is he points out so many problems we have in society and wants us to reflect inward to see what we do personally that keeps a broken system alive.

Ren was so ill for 13 years and went to so many doctors, some of them told him it was all in his head instead of making time to really look at his symptoms, it took one doctor from Brussels to take a bit of time test him and found he had Lyme disease, so i think people get a bit frustrated when doctors dont really listen, whether because of the time they have which each patient or the fact they cant be bothered or burnt out as many are, also the pig mask on the doctor/psychiatrist I believe represents the fact that money is the no 1 concern and not human beings when it comes to health these days, another topic that Ren covers and is very passionate about. You might find that some of us Ren fans may come off as very blunt at times, but please understand a lot of us have been in a similar situation to him and relate and he is our voice. I hope you do more Ren maybe some of his older stuff, Diazapam, Heritic, Dear God, Ready for You, Humble and Ocean.

In the U. S. doctors are trained to treat with predominantly medications so blame the system not the physicians. Pharmaceutical companies have too much influence on healthcare. If you’re searching for a root cause and not a bandaid, I recommend seeing a Functional Medicine doctor. I work in the medical field and suffer with chronic illness so I see both sides. Ren doesn’t do any music that isn’t his lived experience. Keep that in mind. This probably feels quite aggressive to you. For another Ren song that touches on mental health but completely leaves your profession out of it - try his track Suic!de. Heads up, it took about 20 listens before I could hear it without bawling my eyes out. Ren has a big heart - he doesn’t criticize to BE critical - he shares his experiences and asks us all, him included, to do better. To be better. “Simply because the option exists”.

Ren has acknowledged that most of the fault lies in the medical industry as a whole, rather than the doctors themselves. He has stated your point that doctors are forced to rush through appointments. But he also has frustrations with doctors not listening. When in severe pain, doctors told him it was all in his head, one went so far as suggesting he “get a hobby”. He eventually had a psychotic break. After doing all kinds of research himself, Ren pretty much laid the foundation to finding an accurate diagnosis by lying to a doctor to get on a specific antibiotic, which to his amazement helped. After that a doctor in Brussels realized he actually had Lyme disease for about 8 years! Hes been in Canada for the past year undergoing treatment to help fix the issues caused by the havoc the untreated Lyme dusease had on his body and brain, as well as from all the incorrect medication he was put on the treat “mental illness”. As a result of this experience, Ren now suffers from PTSD.

I won't justify people personally attacking you and your ability as a clinician. I will say, though, that some of the pushback you received on your reaction to "Hi Ren" was because you were asking fundamentally the wrong questions from the outset. In this age of TikTok, "Hi Ren" should have failed. Indeed, by every industry convention for the past 50 years, it should have been a complete flop. It's nearly 10 minutes long. It defies confinement to any genre. It is extremely low budget. It's just a guy with a nylon-stringed guitar who begins without an obvious, strong hook. In short, it has everything going against it. Despite that, "Hi Ren" is Ren's breakthrough video, literally introducing him to the public, and, by the time you reacted to it, it had well over one million views. The more thoughtful question going into your reaction, then, would have been, "How has this video, which isn't grabbing me in the first thirty seconds, been so successful? Why are people defying industry expectations and flocking to this artist's message?" Those questions lead to far more interesting insights. You combined that clumsy entry into the reaction with constant pausing to react to lines before the context could unfold, which was more than a little irksome, especially to diehard Ren fans who know Ren's backstory and who feel that Ren has given their struggles a voice. Your naive suspicion of Ren's authenticity, in effect, dismissed their experiences, too. Does any of that justify the hateful comments you received? Of course not. I'm sorry you had to face that.

I'd like to add that these are indeed Ren's personal stories, as he was misdiagnosed with bipolar depression instead of Lyme disease for the better part of a decade (I think...I might have it reversed). Either way, the meds he was given exacerbated his mental health symptoms in extreme and debilitating ways while leaving his real issues completely untreated. In reality Ren is a strong advocate of mental healthcare as well as sufferers of mental health issues. This was just a time during his life he's given expression to that has resonated with many who have been misdiagnosed (self included). We can't all have the best. We can only watch their videos.😉 If I've misrepresented anything I'll leave it to the comment section to correct me. My memory leaves much to be desired. *edited for the ludicrous misspelling of Lyme disease😅

Thank you for this fascinating two part reaction, where you provide your authentic initial reaction to first time viewing of a song (both this and Hi Ren) and your considered response to some of the comments you had received on Hi Ren. I really enjoyed it 😊. Ren fans (and i am one) have been compared to a cult 😂 and while the majority of the community are supporting uplifting and in tune with Ren's own message of kindness and humanity, there is an unfortunate tendency for a small few to get a little carried away with their defence of the man who certainly doesn't need it and doesn't ask for it from us himself. On a recent twitch stream Ren himself acknowledged that many of his fanbase have themselves experienced and/or are struggling with some form of mental health issues (again myself included), and that carries a whole spectrum of responses based on their personal own felt experiences and triggers and that they sometimes project. This is a reaction channel, you won't always please everyone and you will get trolls. But as a whole you will find us Renegades a supportive and loyal bunch... I for one will continue watching and enjoy being challenged to look at the subject from a different angle. Subbed.

I think Ren has mentioned himself that his biggest issue with the medical profession, especially in the NHS in the UK, is that so much of it is little more than people farming at this stage, too many medical professionals are making a good living simply patronising people. in his own words. 'You can do much better' This ties into the 2nd part of the song where the record industry is patronising and exploiting peoples talents and gifts and we're all exploiting the Earth, in short, too many of us are in it for whatever we can get out of it, whatever that field or endeavour is. My own issue with your Hi Ren reaction was a frustration that you simply didn't seem to understand what he was saying before jumping to a conclusion and giving an opinion. I think your adoption of the skipping back a few seconds when you pause will help enormously in this regard. . I wish you the best of luck with this project. it doesn't do any harm to have an informed opinion around here sometimes.

There are so many surprising and wonderful aspects to Ren. He is multi talented. Ren shares his true experiences and not made-up stories to intertain. Please give more time to listen and know where Ren is going with the story before making an assumption. Ren is a genius and is spreading awareness of lime and other less studied or overlooked diseases. Understanding Ren's state of mind at any given time is important, I'm sure you show compassion to your patients. Ren went through years, and most of his illnesses were misdiagnosed, with the wrong medications, like bipolar meds and without being tested for lime disease until years later. This almost killed him. Since you carry strong opinions, I recommend listening to his "eight chapers called Missing." He reads the chapters aloud, and they are very emotional and informative. His newest song "Troubles", takes you through what he went through and where he's at today. I can't stop listening to it. The song has healing factors in all kinds of ways. Enjoy.

Also if you watch it again. I don’t think he is actually talking to the doctor at all except to reply to her question- it’s all in his head - like, what he would like to say but doesn’t- what he’s feeling rather than actually conversing with the doc.

I've watched both your Ren reactions with interest. They strike me as honest and for me that's the main attraction. I can see why the rash of hostile and dismissive personal comments on the Hi Ren reaction were hurtful enough that you chose to rebut them here. But (unsolicited advice warning) is it possible for you to turn it round and to feel their anger and irrationality coming from a place of pain? And from that understanding to extend compassion to them? Perhaps that's not easy, but if you can follow that path, then it's easier to let go of your own hurt. I'm saying this as it works for me. I'd be interested to see your response to Ren and Chincilla's 'How to Be Me'.

To be fair, one possible reason the medical profession isn't portrayed in the best light in lots of places is because that's pretty much how they're actually seen by most. You only have to look back at the Pandemic to see how wrong they can get it. Regarding mental health professionals particularly, good ones seem to be the exception rather than the rule. Diagnosis can often vary wildly from one professional to another. The vast majority of the population will have been either brushed off by a doctor at some point, or misdiagnosed at some point in their lives.

The cacophony of clangs and beats mixed into Sick Boi led me to discover You Tube's channel Modern Today and Taufik Qureshi's "Spirit of Mumbai" on the Bombay Fever album. Oh how I wish I had found this music before my Ketamine induction ended. I was feeling the Hindu Temple-like imagery. I'm so jazzed now. Sick Boi Sick Boi how'd ya bring me Sick Joy. Ps - don’t give too much attention to insults. Ren has a lot of chronically ill fans, and they are frustrated and hurt out of the gate. Many are disillusioned already with all in the medical field - not just within the psychiatric discipline. Keep being honest and don’t take anything personal. Ren has been covered by everyone from psychiatric nurses to neurologists, and I think that once you drop some of your defenses you’ll have some incredible insights. And absolutely brilliant add on with Rens comments on criticism. Ren absolutely does not condone insulting others, even if they hate his music. The community at large is actually quite kind. ❤

And thank you for calmly portraying how your GP friends and colleagues are framed in the NHS system to work. I assume people have said already that a) his record fell through because of his disease and more importantly b) he is a fan of micro/macrocosmic philosophy 'as above so below'. The song reflects that by paralleling personal sickness and societal sickness. You do you. There are a lot of us here with chronic illness and/or mental health issues who have had exactly these kind of experiences. That doesn't mean the medical professionals are purposefully so. I assume it is because the system is broken. Most time we renegades are very supportive. Give us a chance. Ren is worth it. I think you might have also gotten a curious lot of first viewers. Love your answering us with Ren!

No you’re right it has those two themes running alongside each other. I mean we aren’t just individuals are we? We are part of a system and the two can’t exist without the other so it makes sense I think to talk about a universal sickness as well. These are subjects that Ren does revisit in other songs.

Of course you don't like how the medical professional is being portrayed but it's how they are seen sometimes. I've been misdiagnosed because of my BPD. My appendix had a rotting hole in it for years and my sickness was put down to my mental health until my appendix ruptured and I almost died. I've been asking for help because I have BPD and NEED therapy. I'm going to either hurt myself or someone else and end up in jail or worse yet I have been rejected from therapy 7 times because I'm "self aware" and can "hold a stable relationship" even though BPD has extremely manipulative traits so I could easily be manipulating and abusing my partner but the doctor wouldn't know. I see medical professionals as villains a lot of the time because of how much I have been let down by them for years upon years. Before my BPD diagnosis they told me I had bipolar and in that same appointment told me I couldn't receive medical treatment because I had just moved flat so they cut off my access to help. How is that helping anyone? I've been on antidepressants that have horrible side effects for 8 years with no support. Tell me sir, how am I meant to view the medical professionals that have neglected me?

It demonstrated that you continued to find out about him 🤠 I don't watch Reaction videos, however I'd seen you on Joe and as you say I was curious to see a mental health professional look at Ren. I've worked in the NHS, my family too. There are great people and there are awful people within it. Some were great and are now burnt out, for the reasons you gave and more 💔🤬 Until recently I've mostly been well and have had some truly shocking experiences lately. These only deepen my anger for politicians of all stripes, what they've done and continue to do to our NHS and the most vulnerable that are scapecoated. The speed with which NHS staff went from pandemic heroes, to greedy zeros was truly sickening!!! 🤠💜

As someone who does political discourse video analysis and occasionally Ren song analysis I just wanna say that this is not a cutting criticism rather an observation: I think that there is a defensiveness that i think is necessary when it comes to Ren's view about his treatment. While i think that it is actually important to address criticism of the field with some pushback and explanation as to why that Ren's negative experience isn't something that people should expect, however when it isn't paired with the kind of empathy that people would hope for someone in the field to have it can come off as a bit cold and that is going to make some viewers feel defensive of Ren. That being said people judging your Career position is very sad I think critical feedback is important but the things people said on your last video don't appear to be actually critical, I am hoping that I am hitting that mark. I would suggest if you continue with Ren reactions I would suggest, Heretic or Diazepam, or probably Depression would be best as it doesn't have the doctor patient setting which would remove that dynamic from the equation. Suic!de also has a great video and an opportunity to bring fans around to you because it is honestly impossible not to get swallowed up by that song and feel something. Well that's all i got, good luck.

Trust me, most psychiatrist I've met in Sweden, is very true to the picture REN is portraying. And most of them have lost all humanity and empathy for people in pain. I've been in the Swedish psychiatric system as a patient for over 10 years and been in and out of locked psych wards just as long, and my experiences has almost killed me, and has given me severe trauma and C-PTSD to the point I'm not a functioning human being anymore. And it's gonna take years to heal what psychiatrists, nurses and other psych staff has put me through. And all of us who suffer, everything happens behind closed doors where NO ONE "in the real world" knows what is going on and it's such a culture of silence. It took me 10 years for someone to properly listen to me and take my severe issues seriously. And it also took 10 years for me to get the proper diagnosis for my suffering. I was misdiagnosed just as long, and that led to severe negative consequences. During all my years, the weird power dynamics that happens in the psych fields is insane and the abuse of power is very real and it's destroying ill people's life's. I'm not saying you're a bad psychiatrist, but trust me you do not know or understand what happens psychologically to a person and how it feels when you're not being listened to by anyone, getting gaslight and emotionally manipulated by psychiatrist, nurses and psych staff for a whole decade. What REN is portraying in this song and video is very real and true and it's happening everyday, all over the world, especially in the psych system. My biggest wish, is that psychiatrist would swallow their pride, get together and whistle blow the whole system, because we as patients have so little power and usually we're to ill to be able to actually do something about all the abuse and mistreatment that is happening.

There have been a lot of musicians that have done songs on mental health. I don’t get the feeling this channel is not empathetic, I get the feeling he isn’t sure if Ren is a good actor and speaking about mental health because it’s trendy. If he knew Ren better, I think he’d know how absolutely offensive this is to his fans, but I do think we have to put ourselves in the place we were before we knew everything he’s been through. We know how much worse things were for Ren (than he even depicts in his music) but this doctor doesn’t. I don’t think Ren wants us to insult people and say hurtful things. I’ve taken all the SSRIs over the past two decades and side effects were so much worse than what they were supposed to help with. Celexa and lexapro were the worst. On lexapro I literally shut down in the cafeteria in high school and my mom had to come get me because I thought every single person was talking about me. I was out of school for a week. Celexa was okay at first but then I didn’t sleep for 4 days. No amount of Tylenol pm, Xanax, or ambien helped. I had to go to the ER to rule out issues with my optic nerve. It was a very unusual side effect but it was excruciating. Even in the hospital, dilaudid and halodol didn’t help. I gave up on SSRIs after that.

He was misdiagnosed for years and the meds pushed on him actually caused neurological damage, to which he is receiving treatment in Canada to try and reverse the effects. Im so tired of tests and bouncing around from doctor to doctor for different things and nothing helps and its expensive. I talk to a therapist weekly and have a psychiatrist which is indeed helping with the mental symptoms but the physical ones continue to destroy me. I believe in mental health treatment and I take the medication but...i higly recommend chalk outlines live and how to be me. Chaulk Outlines especially hits hard and feels good to know that other people have experienced this too; doctors ignoring the physical and only treating the mental.

I’ve had a lot of really bad experiences with healthcare providers until I found the mental health professionals I see now. Since then I’ve learned that if I’m feeling like I’m not being heard or understood if I vocalize that to the provider, almost always they will stop and together we will work out what’s being lost in communication. And the few times they don’t, I simply have to look elsewhere. Not every provider is going to be the right person for every patient. People are very different and have different needs and providers are people too and won’t always be able to specifically meet every patient’s needs. Hopefully when there is a problem the provider will help you find someone who can meet your needs, but neither Life nor the people who live it are perfect.

So what she’s saying is correct-the trauma feedback loop is severe (and I say that as someone with complex ptsd/developmental trauma disorder), but it’s also true that many patients experience dismissal of their symptoms when there is actually an underlying physical cause, like in Ren’s case. I understand your defensiveness around clinicians being seemingly attacked, as I’ve been in a relationship with a doctor for many years. Still. Ren is really talking about a *system* rather than an individual doctor, and many people, especially women and people of color, experience having their legitimate health concerns being dismissed as being “all in their heads.” It’s an extremely challenging situation all around, but more so for the patients who are not receiving the treatment they need despite doing what they are supposed to do (visiting doctors). Ren linked larger global concerns like capitalism with his personal concerns, because for patients, these are all intertwined experiences. I did find both of your Ren reactions to be quite thoughtful, and I hope you listen to more-especially Seven Sins, Patience, Diazepam, and Chalk Outlines. He is definitely an artist that can expand your perspective as a clinician.

I know I am late and someone has mentioned it a time or two, Ren seen hundreds of Doctors and went through " not nice test and analysis " When he was in constant pain could not eat almost anything. He is very intelligent almost a eidetic memory . And you know what medication that he would have been given. Not helping with his digestion or the disease. The lime disease did a lot of damage to his body with the autoimmunity. I think you are a smart even his speech at the end should give you a indication why people are protective of him ! Even now he is doing better but far from back to normal. Personally I have a difficult time imagining how I would feel being fine 17yo kid having fun and loving what you are doing just to have the world fall on your head. He questioned everything, and just learned to accept it as part of life, to this day, I can not imagine what pain he experiences on a daily basis They did not test because Lime disease was almost unheard of in Brighton UK 7 years no answers only medication ! He had a lot of Dr that just did not listen to him, just text book analysis and treatment !! He is never hard on the medical industry he only mentions them as they could do better cheaper to ( thats mine ) lol. But the pig's in all his medical portrayals are the Doctors. Be a great Doctor just really listen !!! REALLY LISTEN ! You'll be good ! And of course HONEST !

Ren's music, especially Hi Ren, gives me flashbacks to the Sex Pistols 1978 American Tour and the whole punk rock violent genre and head banging to frenetic angry guitar riffs that seem to never end. Ren's style and looks even remind me of Johnny Rotten. My friend and I had to leave that concert because Johnny Rotten insulted the audience and people started throwing glass bottles. I guess everyone knows Sid Vicious died shortly after possibly intentional due taking several Qualudes and heroin. I wouldn't expect a favorable review by a forensic psychiatrist even though Dr. Das did see talent. I think it was very decent of him to give his time and a multifaceted opinion of a performance that was meant to feel harshly anti- establishment.

I don't think they were fair to attack you as a psychiatrist. You just gave your honest opinion of the song in the beginning but you still gave it a chance, it's not possible to have no opinions about something, you supposed to just stop your thoughts? But you still kept watching then changed your mind. But about the medical stuff I got personally offended as someone who has been and is still going through this horrible medical system where I'm not getting any help. It's just constantly fighting with doctors and psychiatrist trying to put me on medications I've been on before and have nothing to do with my illness that I know make me worse before they even know my full story. Knowing I have ME, being diagnosed with it still being unable to see someone for it and having all doctors dismiss it entirely and blame it all on mental illness cause they don't know what it is and want to seem all-knowing so they don't even listen to me when I tell them to take specific tests. I could talk for hours about my horrible experiences with doctors and psychatrist, but the fact remains that I've been bed-ridden for 2 years with no actual help. Just different doctors taking the same exact tests. Then you come to say they get a bad rep cause they're an easy target? No, they get a bad rep cause the entire system is fucked. This is not against you personally cause maybe you haven't experienced this yourself. But when people tell you how horrible it is you need to listen. Other then that I really enjoyed your insight on the Hi ren reaction and despite your negative experience with us so far I hope you continue listening to Ren and give us more insight, we're not that bad.

For this video , I feel it was coming from a place of anger given to the circumstance Ren went through ... ( Being put on psyche meds for a neurological disorder ) As someone who watches a lot of reactions of music I love ... I've heard it said that a viewer watches reactions because they want to see someone ELSE discover ( something they themselves love ) for the first time . ~ Be as blown away as they were the first time they heard it ... And being you may have had some negative criticism to a song / video it angers a few people ; Because they didn't get what they expected... But you are bringing something different to the table ... I think Ren is saying that the entire medical system is too wrapped up in capitalism. Just like everything else, all in the system can be in it for the money (hense the capitalist pig) Some pharmaceutical companies make it worth it to the Dr. to keep prescribing, and prescribing. I think he may even have PTSD from his illness and the misdiagnosis. I don't think he's saying that Dr's are bad people, but that greed leaks into the system. I think at the end, when he acknowledges that he's the virus for doing the same... it pretty insightful. But not as prominent in the rest of the song. If you look at Ren's channel, you will see that he is still doing counseling and seeing doctors for his illnesses. So I don't think his message is 100% anti-doctor.

@@edwardkent I don't quite understand this comment. Could you help me out in what the message is, please? Also, for people with panic disorders panics are sadly not that rare. Those also are usually not just a natural reaction to something but caused by an automatic reaction to a psychological or physical sensation of overwhelm, for example. Could be simply a heightened heartrate from physical exertion at the wrong time, or a situational trigger. There are, of course, also the more natural response panics that you are describing. You are right for both types that they are not special to any individual. The one is a disorder after all, and the other a natural reaction of the human nervous system blowing a fuse. If that comment was meant to be a response to my previous comment on my personal experience with panics and diazepam, then I certainly am not special in this. Or the comment would be useless, I assume (mine)?

You did fine. Ren has to exaggerate what he went through so that people could understand where he has been. Don't feel bad about us Renegades. We are all into protecting Ren and we over react.

What I get from this song is his frustration with the medical and music industry. He got a record deal with Sony, but got so sick that he could not perform. The music industry was telling him he needed to perform and the medical industry couldn’t make him better. So he lost the contract. To me the pig mask represents the negative side of any industry. Ren obviously has some respect for the medical industry since he’s been in Canada for a year now for daily specialized treatment.

This isnt accurate, Ren has said on twitch he has no harsh feeling towards Sony. And they were very good to him. His illness got in the way and he couldnt do what was needed, Sony didnt pressure him but Ren felt guilty and walked away, he felt he was wasting their time. Sony let him take all his songs and let him out of the deal/contract, I dont think they got anything out of that deal.

@@yarbafett I guess I didn’t articulate myself very well in my comment. I wasn’t saying that he had harsh feelings. I was just saying that he was frustrated with wanting to make music and not being able to because he was sick. You are correct. I did see him in an interview where he said that he didn’t have any harsh feelings towards Sony.

You're being way too analytical. Like i said on the first video, you're not taking in the whole picture. Instead, you're trying to break it down and make it make sense. This is the experience, everything coming at you, different diagnoses, do thisand then.....wait. This is the first time I've seen these, and i feel like you're pushing to label.

Perception is reality. Would you say that is true? I understand you have a bias due to your profession which I respect your perception too. Your perception is also your reality. I have had anxiety since my earliest memories. The therapist I went to in my 20’s (I’m 50 now) when it got to a point I thought I was going insane said “if you tell me you’re hearing voices you’re not speaking to the right person.” I will admit this happened in the 90’s and knowledge of mental health has progressed tenfold since then. However, that was what I was told. Perception of the medical community is reality for the many suffering. I also understand there are good and bad in the medical profession just as in any profession. It’s called “practicing medicine” for a reason. That is not lost on me either. Science and knowledge continues to advance yet much of it is still “practicing”. Still learning and adapting. I believe what Ren is attempting to say in the beginning and what I have personally experienced is lack of empathy. “It’s all in your head. It’ll pass.” That’s just wrong.

No disrespect intended, but if you dont like the way the medic is being represented, then please know there is a lot of work to be done on the medical professionals side. This is an extremely common situation. When there is clearly something wrong with a patient, but they have no clue whats causing it, they say things like this. By age 25, I almost died twice because of negligence, and not being listened to, or taken seriously. The first was a ruptured appendix and peritonitis. The second was anaphylactic shock and sepsis. It happens every single day.

I want through a similar situation when I experienced toxic mold poisoning. In in the states but let me say, even though I have the toxic mold photos, video, and samples, and all the symptoms along with the book mold warriors with the blood work protocols with me at appointments. I have been told that mold doesn't make people sick by Dr's and was given some ridiculous diagnosis by a few doctors regarding the rashes that would result from the food allergies that came with the exposure. And to this day I am still not properly diagnosed with it by a single Dr as the mold blood work protocol is not approved by the insurance companies. And the whole thing has definitely made me very sinycal towards the medical system.. It's not personal. However the Ren issues with the other renegades. It's very tricky. Hi Ren especially is a song that someone needs to be in the right mindset. And people just have different taste. However, Ren fans. Well you know. But they are good peoples.

I don’t see him being “anti-psychiatry” given he talks openly about therapy. But many of us have experienced misdiagnosis and have found ourselves sitting across from terrible providers and valid ones. This is just his experience.

Ren had to deal with what many chronic pain patients who get doctors that talk at them not to them. I have Fibromyalgia was diagnosed when I was 15. Back then it was thought that it was hypochondria, or muchison syndrome. You had to try to convince people you are really sick and in constant pain. I personally got this a lot. Now it is commonly recognized and easily tested for. His singing career was on hiatus due to not being able to tour. Sony dropped Ren from his contract in 2019. Which is why he is now independent. He was misdiagnosed as bipolar and not tested properly to rule out lyme disease for 8 yrs. The video is about the frustrations we go through being sick. Fighting just to be able to function everyday. From my understanding of the song.

I just want to say that i feel that there is something very strange going on. You 100% DID NOT HAVE TO defend or explain any of your previous comments. This is a reaction video on a mental health level... Personally i fell into the hole, and I ... I just cannot believe... I actually left tiktok and came to facebook to GET AWAY from the ren videos. I feel like ... honestly i cannot hold it in anymore. I am furious. The content was introduced in such a missleading way!! Had i known at the time that there would be visuals of guns to heads, ropes around necks... Had I known that it was going to be so .... my dad hung himself. He also... Everytime i say as i did not enjoy the content, and that i am worried about people who think they are walking into a world where you will be understood. That is definitely not what i experienced. Mental health and trauma is dealt with sensitively because we are working WITH MINDS that have come undone due to these types of experiences. 😢 You get so lost in all the pain it triggers, and you fall so deeeeeeeep into this confusing depression again. Sick for 3 months. Developing and fighting an eating disorder now because after i was so sick, i was still stuck on this ren tain. Then the actual.. real psychosis hits. The intrusive thoughts. The overwhelmed feelings of being so lost, unable to sleep. I know words such as "trigger" are used way too often in life. This time, i feel very fair in saying that this is a massive trigger to mentally struggling people. Thousands will come and tell me this saved their life. That confuses me even more. It definitely made me feel so alone when I had first said... oh wow that triggered me a little... and all the ren fans told me ren is not responsible for my triggers. Then dont address the mental health community. Some of us are lost, we don't have finances for the proper help. I had to ride this out all alone. What ? So i carried on this train. If the mental health community is telling me i am wrong- surely i must be. I wasnt. I should have laughed at them and left. All these peoole said they found answers and HELP from these videos. I found some verbal understanding .... Blood Guns to heads Ropes around necks A child with a rope around his neck. Throat slitting. And something about an autoimmune disease that is hella expensive to fix and reverse. It truly was hell and i did not know if i was going to come out of it.

ALL PSYCHIATRIST, should be medical doctors first as underlaying distress is often the rsult of a physical or neurological condition. Lyme can be difficult in presentation unless it is seen in the form of a bite and rash. Patients unintentionally give misleading generalizations of malaise and lost appetite. That's where the rabbit hole develops into full blown overdiagnosis leading to ineffective and damaging medications. Immunological reactive testing would have reveiled the Lyme much earlier before it started neurological damage to his brain.

I don't know if you've made the link yet, however it initially struck me as a jump from Ren's illness to capitalism, too. As a leftie, only briefly. Ren's asked for the first thing that comes into his mind and society is sick, not me is it. Then he lists the symptoms identifying capitalism and conspicuous consumption as the cause. Of course this could be seen as an abdication of responsibility by Ren: Don't hate the player. Hate the game. Or in polarised politics framing: Lefties and soy boys will blame systems. They don't take personal responsibility, they don't really try. Like nature and nurture, why not both - personal and society? 🤷‍♀️ In the wider context of Ren's art, he very clearly acknowledges his own agency: Mistakes and triumphs, the swinging dance. Whilst critiquing his immediate and wider social environment. The lack of diagnosis of a sick system leads to his own misdiagnosis by the medical system - in part. 'It's no sign of good health to be well adjusted to a sick society.' Ren's ill health is only made worse by the ill health of the systems around him. Recently, I've asked psychologists: Can the high levels of anxiety, depression, etc across the world all be explained by increased awareness, improvements in diagnosis, etc? Are humans then just naturally depressed, genetically predisposed to it, no environmental factors at all, aside from our immediate relationships and jobs? I guess if so that Thatcher was right about there being no society, it can't affect mental health then... Ren as a young person is trying to avoid the prescription sold to us that money, power, fame and consumption will heal him. Arguably harder to resist than ever with social media and most having the ability to self-publish? 🤠💜
