Has anyone explained Ren's medical history to you? Long story short, he went in with a list of symptoms, and they misdiagnosed him with depression, bipolar, and chronic fatigue syndrome. It wasn't until years later, after him not giving up and spending a lot of money on specialists that they discovered he actually has Lyme disease.

They don't care... that's what "free" healthcare is all about. There's no competition among doctors or therapists, they all just get caseloads assigned to them, so you can be the worst therapist in the world, and it doesn't matter. Nobody cares about anything except shuffling you in and out of there as fast as possible. It's "care" reduced to the same kind of cold bureaucracy that you find at the registry of motor vehicles. You're a number.

Your reaction made me cry. Therapists who are trauma informed are so very rare. I had one "therapist" a few years back who actually looked at my chart and said, "So you've been through therapy off and on for years; so what is it you expect from me?" I just quietly got up and left the session. Ren is such a beacon of light and talent speaking and singing the words that are inside so many of us. I'm glad you found him and thank you for your compassionate reaction.

Dang, I am so sorry this happened to you. It breaks my heart to hear stories like this. It's clear you needed compassion and that's what you deserved from a therapist who is supposed to offer exactly that. I'm proud of you for leaving and knowing it wasn't a great fit for you. That can be a really challenging thing to do. I hope that if you try therapy again you find someone who is a good fit. In the meantime I'm glad you have this music and it's meaning

I've been in and out for half my life and this question always comes up. Often in the first session. Over the years I've learned to just be honest: "Nothing". I expect nothing. No one has proved me wrong. I'm just there to tick the necessary boxes for me to keep getting welfare and they're only there to tick those boxes for me. Vitamins, sleeping tabs, anti-depressants of many varieties. Nothing does anything and the therapist is just sitting there taking notes and looking at their books as if the answer is in there. My personal conclusion is that I can't be fixed. With the right help I might be able to live with my baggage, but I wont ever fix it.

I've had a similar experience and it nearly made me lose what little faith I still had in the mental health system. To just feel so utterly helpless and lost and just wanting to tell them 'I just don't want to feel like this anymore' but knowing there isn't a magic wand they can wave to make things better, especially when you've already tried so many things...
@AngB5173 ай бұрын
I had someone tell me "fake it til I made it".... um that's difficult to do with Rapid Cycling Bipolar, that mask is tight enough as it is. Another put me on a medication that I vehemently stressed to her that I *could not* take as I had been on it before and I do not know the reason but it crashed my blood sugar every time. So since that was all she was willing to try, I took one, I got sick and as soon as I got into my room to ask my husband for help, I literally crashed in to a wooden chest. Thankfully my head didn't hit the corner, but I woke up with a throbbing headache and a long tender spot on my head. Blergh.

The woman in this video is representative of at least half the mental health profession in my four decades experience as a patient. Do not hesitate to walk away and find someone else if you aren't being heard.
After almost of a decade of being told it was "all in his head" Ren literally had to raise money and go to another country to find a specialist to get a proper diagnosis. He has a very conflicted view of the medical profession. Years of errors, but then treatment and help. He will always give credit to those that helped... but he'll never forget those who dismissed him. I often wonder if those who "treated" him know of him now... if they know they failed him. Chalk Outlines next please.

I am so grateful I found this video! When I'm not listening to Ren's music, I am watching others react to Ren's music! I've seen so many reactors and it always gives me a buzz seeing their amazement and appreciation and how they interpret his songs. For those of us who have been following him for some time now, and because of how he bares his soul so profoundly, not only through his music, but in interviews and BTS content etc. it gives a kind of insight into his mind that you don't normally get with most artists. Because of this, I think all Renagades would agree that if Ren does see this video, he will be as grateful to you as you are to him for this reaction. It felt like every time you stopped to discuss what you just saw, you were saying things that he directly addresses in the following part of the song. It was so satisfying predicting your excitement after talking about the way therapy has made him feel and then hitting play and his lyrics reflecting your own views. I am gonna check out your other Ren reaction now but I feel like of all the "Sick Boi" reaction videos, yours stands out as one that completely validates and supports Ren's vision, and how he has been shaped by his experiences. And on a more personal level, the way you discuss mental illness as a side effect of trauma and pain speaks to me and had me in genuine tears. The healing kind that come from actually feeling validated. So thank you. If all therapists were like you then I feel that those of us with these problems would be coping far better, not just walking around with metaphorical band aids over our problems! Thank you deeply! ❤

I am 62 and have recently given up on therapy after waiting 18 months to be seen, and having 9 sessions. It was basically lists and leaflets of things to basically distract yourself, like put your head in a bucket of water, look for 5 object, touch 4 objects, smell 3 etc.. it made my anxiety worse. Ren's lyrics have helped my condition far more than the lists of distraction techniques that I was suggested. Ren has many songs that touch on his health, both physical and mental, and society, that I would love to see you react to, including, Chalk Outlines, Dominoes, Diazepam, Seven Sins, Dear God. to name a few. He also has a trilogy called Jenny and Screech (full) which focusses on domestic violence, so beware. if you want global/social commentary, 'The money game' trilogy is a must, and 'Crucify your culture'... and for grief, 'Suicide' and 'a Song for Joe' and 'Precious' by Ren's band, 'The Big Push' which are written about Ren's close childhood friend, Joe Hughes, who sadly took his life by jumping off a bridge and Ren arrived just a few minutes too late to save him after running from his apartment after receiving a phone call.. Lots to unpack.. ❤ BTW Ren also does a lot of other class happier light-hearted music and rap.

@@HeartSupport Sadly - I experienced an 18 month waiting list too, back in 2014. Also made more infuriating by the little card they send out every 6 months apologising that you are still waiting and asking you to confirm that you are in fact still in need of mental health help. The UK NHS is good for a lot - but it falls short, very very short when it comes to mental health. After you finally make it to the top of the waiting list, you get a block of 6 sessions, the first is obviously used up by introductions and initial diagnosis. The remaining 5 sessions are only ever about teaching you coping skills - a sticking plaster, there is no time or money in the UK NHS Mental Health services to actually deal with the root cause. After your 6 sessions (which are 3 weeks apart) you go back on to the very long waiting list if you still need more support. And the hardest part (for me at least) - is that the telephone support that was available but rarely needed while you were having your 6 sessions, that's gone too. It feels like a lifeline has been removed - like you have been thrown out into the cold and now have to wait another 2 years before you can speak to someone again. In 3 sets of 6 sessions - the only thing I have come away with that is genuinely useful, is breathe in through the nose and out through mouth. That's it.

@@AndrewJonesMcGuire I've just finished 5 years of therapy, all paid for by me. My therapist explained the NHS model. 6 sessions. 1. Intros and what to expect. 2. And 3. Explore the issue and start actual therapy. 4 and 5 the actual work continues. 6. Outro. Continuing coping techniques. So really only 3 actual therapy sessions. (I should say, that's not official in any way, just paraphrasing the way she explained it to me) I hope you have better experiences in the future. Therapy was invaluable to me, and although I've spent thousands of pounds on it, I wouldn't ever want to have not done it. I'm so grateful to my therapist for all she did! @@TheRealityleak yeah, sadly we can't all afford to go private. And yes, though you may be paraphrasing - it's pretty accurate. Every time I got my block of sessions, it was always a new psychologist - so session one was always wasted , going over old ground again (and fyi to the NHS, people who have mental health problems, typically don't enjoy having to introduce themselves to yet another psychologist).

I’ve watched fifty reactions to this song and it never made sense to me until now. I don’t even know if you know his medical history but that was amazing, thank you!

I'm an LCSW and a therapist (and a lover of metal) as well, so I wanted to say thank you for reaffirming many of the things I believe and practice in my sessions.

Thank you for this reaction. Especially for your comment about "a week or so". I have not heard anyone talking about "I can't really think". It sent me into crying bout when I first heard it. He didn't say "I can't really think of any" or "I can't remember any". He said that he can't think... literally. And she continued her protocol like he hadn't said anything at all. It was so heartbreaking for me with somehow similar experience of treatment unfortunately...

Thank you for your reaction and "getting" it. Ren is so brilliant. I appreciate that you actually hear and understand what it can feel like when someone in the psychiatry or therapy field just checks off boxes and puts you in a box and isn't really listening to what the person is saying. Showing support and advocating for the person is so important.

When you talked about your coworker and how they inspire you, I immidietly thought "you are inspiring me now". Thank you for this video, I will save it and watch it again because I am 100% sure your words just made me a better facilitator. ❤

Thanks for the content you make! I like learning how minds work and this way of doing it is very intertaining too :) I can suggest Bang Bang by Hollywood Undead for another reaction, would love to see that one. P.S. Your glass cubes(?) on the shelves(?) keep triggering something in me, I just can't believe they are stable and are not about to fall at any moment😅

Long rabbit hole of Rens music. So much powerful.. I seen you did the Suic!de one, and at the end , he sings the section about Joe. Well there is a more in depth part of that song called "FOR JOE " , Ren is on a bridge playing his keyboard singing the song. Its amazing like always. There are too many Ren songs to bring up. Im trying to think of the major ones that deal with mental illness. I would also say take a look at "Chalk Outlines" him with Chinchilla singing, "How to be Me" also him singing with Chinchilla , there are so many more, and you will get a huge amount of people coming by to see your reactions to all of them. Ren is super fire right now on you tube.

REN is pretty amazing, I wish I could hug him, tell him everything alright lol. 'breaking the system while also feeling broken by it' is its own vibe he nails on the head here.

I understand what you're saying but, he is sick. He didnt need a therapist! He needed a doctor! All they did was pump him full of pills, not what he needed.

I feel like that's the experience for alot of people here in the UK, myself I'm still ignored about my mental health struggles, luckily I've learned to manage them to a livable degree as I've gotten older but I can't tell you how many times I've been bleeding out to a dr and got the "depression check list" questions and shown to the door with some tablet that never helped 😂 side note, I love how you are so passionate about your job and helping people, if more therapists and drs went to work with your mindset I might have found help, many of my sadly lost friends may still be here, you're a gem to your profession ❤

Thank you for what you are doing to help the trauma victims. I wish all felt like you. My wife had a therapist who was a predator. Unfortunately, we didn't know what he was until it was too late. My wife suffered horribly by him. Keep helping. Keep up the compassion.

Hi, just came from the Ren - Kudo Beat Down reaction. From someone who has been to therapy for multiple years I am grateful for you putting this out. After my first therapist I ended up in clinic because he was proofing to me without compassion that I had dissociative amnesia again and again, pushing me to talk about those topics and memories I could not even clearly remember while I was struggling to live life at all. Luckily I cannot even remember that properly now. After the clinic I cut ties with him and I actually looked for 7 months and had appointments with 12 different therapists until I settled for the only one I had a good feeling about. Eventhough I am still working on the mindset that I am not broken and wrong, I want to thank you Taylor for saying this stuff, you phrased it wonderfully!

Hi I’ve been going through a lot of mental health along with going through lots of addiction issues as well and found myself in some trouble and got put into a program with the state and what you said in the beginning with the therapist being very clinical and not connecting with the client is unfortunately what most therapist with the state are like. I am fortunate to be in a much better situation at this moment but just wanted to say Ren is one of the first artist I started listening to that I connected with and related to and I found your page through ren and listening to talk on these topics have helped me as well. Just wanted to give you and Ren a big thanks!
