Initially it is more important for Aptera to introduce a fully functional vehicle to the world than it is to introduce all the latest bleeding edge technology possible. Hub motors will come, but it isn’t worth the production delay. I am looking forward to getting my Aptera.

I am slightly disappointed with this change, but at the same time I feel it is a very good compromise toward production and Aptera stability. We are very excited for Aptera's success and to own this vehicle! Thank you Raj!

My wish was for 3 wheel drive. The nimble nature is important to avoid accidents, and I see little difference in front wheel drive over 3 wheel. I cannot wait another year, but my second Aptera will be 3 wheel drive.

My Arcimoto shows ne how AWD on a tadpole setup is superfluous. I'd rather take delivery of my Accelerator Launch Edition sometime next year.

I hope they provide an upgrade path to all wheel drive for those of us who changed to 2 wheel drive, even if it is a year or two out.

@@johnvoules7447 - Just like the skin cooling. From listening to Steve, it looks like it will not be upgradeable. It would be better off to just get what they offer and then buy another one with all of the bells and whistles down the road.

At this point, I would like to see at least one complete vehicle, with full solar and the 400 mile battery and at least some preliminary validation.

I expect this configuration will be more comfortable due to much less weight in the wheels shaking the car on bumps. There’s a lot of positives in the support and maintenance side of the product. I suspect it will be slightly less safe in frontal crashes for the same reason ice cars are, but not to the same degree since we still get very low center of gravity. If the 0-60 sprint is more than 5 seconds though I might wait for the rear motor.

My only issue with a permanent magnet motor is this will impact the ability to coast. There will be inductive braking going on, even if it is small. Short of having some type of clutch that detaches the motor from the wheel you will not be able to bring the inductive braking to zero. But other than coasting, it is more efficient.

My issue is with the weight shifting. Sure, we’re reducing unsprung weight, but we are also raising the centre of gravity. The moose test performance characteristics would be significantly different.

The motor does sit fairly low. I don't think the centre of gravity will shift in a dramatic way.

@@RajGiandeep Perhaps, although I shouldn’t be complaining much. Don’t have a preorder, as I knew they’d have to work out the kinks. Simply an investor with a desire for solar mobility. Also, I’m in rural Canada. The challenges are significant for the environment I’m living in. So, those kinks need to be addressed first.

Im an Aptera fan and understand their decision. I don’t like it and worry about what’s next to be dropped or changed. Dc fast charging, one of the solar panels, Knock knock. Opening wheel covers, or gull wing doors.

Steve Fambro said last Friday that each of the first prototypes have a 10KWh battery pack. Have they ever proved the prototypes have a range of 100 miles since they are supposed to get 10 miles per kilowatt?
