I LOVE this so much! I think it's affordable, though right now, not for me and my social security. For what you get, it IS affordable. If I had to, I would tear down the 2 b, 2b, 1,200 stick built in 1983 I own and build this one, if I could. I'll look more deeply into these.

$170 K without a kitchen or bathroom, no walls, no site prep, no property. One of the stated purposes of this project is affordability for a large market - and this isn't it. Most real estate in the entire country is outside the range of normal people to start with and this doesn't approach the problem. Shame.

The solution Geoship offers to deal with high property prices is to group up and get a piece of property with like minded people to build affordable and sustainable housing. No walls means less materials to cover the same surface. Circle foundation is one of the simplest and cheapest and if you’re talking about permanent housing you gonna need one anyway. Virtually Zero maintenance is another crucial factor. So do you math

Cheaper pre-built carpentry won’t fit against sphearical wall. I don’t see the sealing scheme anywhere on the site. I also don’t see any provision for pipes, conduit, or ducts. I am not sure what they will do about building codes….

I live in fire in country. I plan to go to the company and see this concept. Also going to talk to my insurance company to see if they would except this construction should my home burn. This construction works for me. I live on ten acres so I have choices.

Thank you so much for this video. I invested a small amount and I also sent them an email asking them if they had an idea of which states and cities they may be building some of these communities and they just said "all over the world" which is kind of vague. I currently live in Carmel Indiana but I could live anywhere with my job I'm a physical therapist assistant. I would love to be able to stay in Indiana initially although I'm open to moving to other states, I used to live in Santa Fe New Mexico for 10 years. Anyway do you have any more information on where they might be building these because I'm wondering if I should put down that $500 deposit or not to reserve one especially since the price might go down in the future? I really really want one! 😃

Very unfortunate to see prices like that. Originally They said they were gonna keep it as cheap as possible. Now it's back up to prohibitively expensive. I was very excited before with such a great idea, but it's not the solution if it's not actually affordable.

Will be interesting in seeing where this goes as geodesic domes have been around for 60+ years. They are cool and futuristic looking, but have never really caught on for a number of reasons.

mostly because of the issues of fitting furniture and appliances with straight lines into a round area, I assume? makes sense, but what if they become so popular that furniture and appliances become curvilinear? or a separate industry develops? maybe as the "Tesla of houses" they actually develop a sister company for this in the future. who knows?

I thought it would be a problem too but it's really not. The larger the circumference of the circle, the nearer to straight the walls are relative to each piece of furniture. I'm in a yurt, and the only issue is the kitchen. But even then, is not too bad to cut a curve into the back of standard cabinets

Living in Northern Virginia where home prices are astronomical this would be an amazing option if I could find a reasonably priced plot of land that was zoned for building. I also love how it's essentially a very modern take on a home versus the same style and design we've used for over 100 years now. Huge perk to not having a traditional roof that needs to be replaced every 20 years as well.

I'm seeing $45K I think that's also just the price before they get up to scale. Most likely it would be cheaper once they get up to speed since they'd have better facilities to make them cheaper.

The base of these domes by Geoship is smaller than it would be if the base was the diameter of a circle. If you look closely, the domes bulge a few feet above ground level. It would have been more aesthetically pleasing if it was a true half circle, the way Pacific Domes built their domes. Also, it would have been more spacious.

No indication of mechanicals or mechanical space, no mention of air sealing/vapor management. I would buy one of these if they were available, but I've become very distrustful of these utopian housing startups. Highly unlikely that you could actually buy one of these any time soon, if at ever. Highly likely you'll never see that $100 again.

Self finance no doubt because you cannot get a mortgage on this type of build. Also getting zoning approval for a structure like this will be problematic if you live within a town or city. Will insurance cover this?

A dome home costs $100 to $250 per square foot or $180,000 to $500,000 on average, not including the land or site prep. The cost of a dome house depends on the size, foundation type, and interior finishes and fixtures. (Think 1,500 to 2,500 SF in size).
