Thanks a lot, much appreciated. We are targeting the start of a mini-series on IWM, Aptera Motors, how Automotive Development Cycles work and when the decision against IWM for LE's was probably done for next weekend. Subscribe to our channel to stay up to date on this topic and other in-depth videos we'll be releasing throughout the year. Thanks.

Thanks, Raj! Posted to Reddit at r/Apteramotors. I know that when NDAs are involved that public announcements can't be made until all parties agree. This is not unusual.

Basically yes. But: as Aptera Motors says, the integration is already done. Which means they started working with the new supplier many months ago, including confidential information like specifications, testing data, etc. I simply cannot believe that any company would share such data without having an NDA is place. That's not common practise in any industry. And that usually includes communication aspects. Everybody knew at the very beginning that that change would need well planned communication. I feel there is another reason why they are holding back ...

Interesting Raj, this is good information to settle things down a bit. We all look forward to next weeks news directly from the sources and what it will hold! Thanks very much for addressing this topic!!

Me too! I remember when the old Aptera Motors Inc’s Aptera 2e had a single rear wheel belt drive, which I got a ride in. Not many choices “back then” for that unique autocycle. Since then….Chris A. said they would never go back to that drivetrain for Aptera. So…Can’t wait to hear where we are settling with a common available drivetrain, used on other vehicles. Your 3D is still valid in that regard, my friend… 3 wheels! 😉 Be well

If they are pivoting to protean and using the Pd16 it would be a small drop in power which could be a hit to 0-60 again. It also might not be as well tuned as the customized elaphe motor which could impact efficient. These are all single digit percentage impacts so not night and day but pivoting this late in development would definitely not be ideal.

Good points.

I am hoping that Aptera will be using the hub motor and inverter that was co-developed with Elaphe. If those items can be made by a 3rd party with very tight specifications, that might be ideal. Elaphe has dropped mention of Aptera on their website except for one photo.

It may be a switch to an innovative in wheel motor. I had felt something like this was going on.

Interesting the Protean motors put the inverter in the motor

Didn't know that, very fascinating.

Some are thinking that they will go with a conventional front wheel drive train. I’m thinking they are too far in on hub motors to change now.
@RajGiandeep5 ай бұрын
Chris McCammon said in the recent Aptera livestream. That it's a motor used in millions of vehicles. Which I take as geared EV motor. I wonder if it might even be a tesla motor? I wonder if Aptera have designed the frame to account for hub or geared motor in the front.
@Imageon445 ай бұрын
@@RajGiandeepthat would be Tesla or ZGH it will be interesting the secretes of the drive train is a bit out of character for Aptera. Adds a little suspense to our wait.

Raj, great update! It would be great if Chris A or Steve F. would make the same statement(s) in one of their webinars, as in today 6/28. Chris M.'s comment is definitely good news but buried in all the comments. I follow AOC pretty closely and I even missed Chris's comment. I am certain we will get the details as soon as possible but just addressing the huge question like Chris did will definitely improve perception. The last thing an investor wants to get involved with is a company that has a negative perception or concerns with its dedicated followers. The powertrain is a big critical key component and is much more than just the hub motors. There is the question of 1 inverter or 3 in the LE? What happened with the custom inverter that Steve F. talked about developing that was much more efficient than anything on the market? (Developing a custom inverter is not simple, easy or inexpensive which might be exactly why they were talking of using an off-the-shelf inverter.)

I would be nice to have this mentioned in an official video from Aptera instead of coming from Fan channels.

Chris seems to have indicated that in-wheel motors are out for the initial runs of the Aptera. That is disappointing after all the hype.

Thanks Raj, still would like to hear what the solution is like you. I guess I will TRY to be patient...
@Rich1Rodriguez5 ай бұрын
Could they have opted for a standard single motor in front? Would be mildly disappointing if so .
@RajGiandeep5 ай бұрын
I hope it's still in-wheel. One of the huge perks of Aptera.
@ronfarnsworth70745 ай бұрын
I would think a single motor with driveshafts, cv joints, etc would be impractical with so much frame and chassis design already set in stone.

I think they just gave up on hub motors. They're coded language in their livestream suggests the motors will be conventional. Likely they gave the car space for them from the start in case the hub motors turned out to be a dud.

Okay, I've got to admit to where I may have played a snall part into this "controversy". I saw that response to the Aptera Owners Club channel, and I mistakenly believed that post was from Aptera Motors, not aptera.solar. My bad, and that's a reminder that you should be diligent about sources. I've been treating that upcoming announcement as if it will be an official announcement. As I said, I'm assuming the apterasolar channel is aptera.solar. While they may be in contact with the Italian branch of Aptera, and msy even include some members of that branch, aptera.solar are a bunch of potential EU drivers who got together to help Aptera navigate the regulations involved. They're not Aptera. More like an Aptera Owners Club for the EU. I apologize if I misrepresent them but Im pretty sure this is the case. So this tells me that it is not Aptera that is making this announcement, it's Elaphe. It's not Aptera's responsibility to comment on it. In fact, they probably can't comment until the interview is released. Elaphe may put out an official statement following the video, or may let that be their official statement. Since Elaphe is making the announcement, I doubt it will be their partnership ending. It would be on Aptera to announce they switched to a new partner. But we will have to see. It's still possible Elaphe will let Aptera or a third party build the motors. Or it could be a merger, as suggested.
@RajGiandeep5 ай бұрын
I understand they are a fan channel. I should have made that more clear in my video. If Aptera.solar is allowed to release the video. Feels like Aptera is moving away from Elaphe & the NDA isn't related to them perhaps. Time will tell.
