The Aptera vehicle is well suited for the post apocalyptic world that all too many of us imagine. A world without reliable grid infrastructure, making both electricity, and fossil fuels (which require gas station electric pumps for fueling and sometimes extraction) much more difficult to find. In truth this world already exists in India, South East Asia, much of the Middle East, Polynesia, Melanesia, and Africa. Billions of people currently live in this world. I hope Aptera has plans to eventually address this large, highly profitable, and lucrative market. While few individuals in these emerging markets can afford the purchase price of an Aptera, many villages and families would be happy to buy one collectively. Vehicle to load (V2X) could also provide useful energy for small appliances (cellphones, computers, etc.) that most villages and families in these emerging markets are already using. The Aptera vehicle is a big and beautiful vision. I hope the Aptera global marketing department is thinking bigger as well.

@@The1Mischief I am happy you've joined us as a reservation holder, but the Aptera will only draw something like 35-50 kW, or at least that's what was announced with the DCFC announcement. You won't need a station that goes higher than 150 kW. The benefit of NACS will be the ease of use (size of the charger), plug-and-play convenience with the massive availability of Tesla Superchargers. That said, since an Aptera is 2-3x as efficient as any given Tesla, it would gain as many miles per hour as a Tesla that is charging at 70-150 kW anyways. 5 to 10 years life expectancy instead of 10 to 20 or more years for a painted car that see's occasional washing and waxing. A minor parking lot ding that a little DIY touch-up paint, wet sanding followed by a quick buff will take care of on a painted finish might require the wrap be completely replaced on that part of the vehicle so collision repair in a minor event could become more costly on a wrapped vehicle. To be fair it does eliminate the most costly and pollution generating aspect of manufacturing automobiles which is the paint shop. Now if they have a recycling program for the wrap set up so that it can be made into trim boards, etc and kits are made available to DIY repair or replace it then it would make great sense for me. Note that the 20 year old car in my driveway (that has lived out in the Harsh Florida Sun its entire life and only gets a few washings and waxings a year to keep it presentable) still has the factory paint on it and is not in need of refinishing. So you may be able to plug into a Tesla charging station but has Aptera opened contracts with Tesla to actually be allowed to charge on their Network? Tesla automobiles create a handshake between the charger and the car anytime charging is happening at a charging station. How does Aptera plan to do this, through the Tesla App? Tesla only recently opened their network to 3rd party EVs and only stations with magic docks attached. Not only will Aptera have to get approved, but they will specifically need to not have the magic dock automatically select the CSS standard when charging. I feel like these questions need to be addressed more than anything else in relation to charging.

I don't understand this question. Tesla announced that they are opening up their charging network and Aptera subsequently announced that they are adopting the NACS standard. Hey Quincy, well done! I have a few recommendations as a Comms Strategist: -you're not quite centered and not quite on the third. Is that intentional? -Think about where in the AIDA loop customers who are viewing this video are currently. Some of your messaging was too introductory (#4 should've been omitted, "The car has solar panels, so park it in the sun"), while some of it was very pertinent to purchase decisions. -You demonstrated that the Tesla power cord could reach, but did not show it's actually charging the vehicle. If that's not in the cards right now, it would build trust to acknowledge that reality instead of avoiding it. -good job being customer centric, but try to paint a picture of an experience the customer can see themselves in, instead of using abstract ideas like "all about freedom". -also consider your Jungian Archetype when you write. "All about freedom" sounds like a Rebel Archetype, a la Harley Davidson. I got the sense that Aptera was chasing a Wizard Archetype... Or maybe you haven't chosen one for your brand identity yet? Overall, this campaign is being run pretty solidly, and I'm excited for the product. However, I think there's an opportunity for someone with an exacting background (like an ex-SCCA TA2 racing mechanic) to help dial in your messaging.

I would like to know if there is a way to monitor your solar cells so that if one isn't functioning, could it be easy to replace rather than replace the entire bonnet

I believe they said awhile ago that, if one solar cell fails, it will be electronically removed with minor degradation to the whole. They also said that is true of the battery pack.

Has Aptera officially brokered a deal with Tesla for access to the Supercharger network? With an NACS plug, we will need a “NACS nonTesla” option in the App so that the Aptera is recognized on the SC network, and, if at a MagicDock station, the NACS (without the CCS adapter) is released from the charging station. I had not heard any announcements about an agreement & process being created to allow non-Tesla NACS cars to charge on the SC network.

$158 per year for me, which is false because it doesn't take into account the cost of my transportation energy, which is way lower than grid energy (like 60-70% lower). I'm not interested in this thing for savings in dollars.

I didn't realize the sides are wrapped and not the top. Then it seems the wrap doesn't cover the solar panels. I was thinking when the wrap gets old it would block light to the solar panels and would need to be replaced, but it seems now that won't be a problem.

I understand the concern about this because there aren't that many places that do vinyl wrapping and it can be costly when you do find someone. I've wrapped a couple of my own cars and I would estimate if you do it yourself it could be done for as little as $200-$250, including tools like heat gun and squeegees, etc.

I know what you mean. That is great background music to hold us in suspense. The Aptera could have backed up just a little more to match what the Teslas are doing although I would be afraid to back up my Aptera into a fixed object like a Supercharger. The rear right and rear left are high up in the air and it may be difficult to know exactly where the rear corners are when reversing.

I only live two miles from work, work 4x10s, and drive a paid off 2010 Prius that averages around 45mpg. Your savings calculator says I'd only save $650/year. Not a good fit for me right now but maybe when my Prius dies. Really hoping Aptera Motors is successful none the less.
@Airman749 Жыл бұрын
I drive a 2016 eco Prius that averages 55mpg, so I hear ya. But Priuses are easy to sell used at a very good price, so mine will be up for sale once I have an Aptera. Even $650/year adds up over 10years.
@dmcarstensen Жыл бұрын
@@Airman749 I'd consider but with interest rates being over 6% any savings would instantly be eaten up. Say the Aptera is $34k, down payment is $6k, trade-in is $4k; you'll be paying $800+ in interest annually with a 7 year loan at 6.25%.

I don't like how low those fenders are to the ground. In a perfect world, dips don't exist, but in my home down there are some really damn extreme dips going into parking lots or between streets, which make it near impossible from scratching your front bumper.

Our main focus is getting our two-seater model into production; however, we look forward to expanding seating options in the future to accommodate families. Our tech is easily extended to larger vehicles with great results and we plan to make that version in the future. Solar mobility is for everyone, and we can’t wait for what’s to come. ☀️

There are a couple things we might want to consider when we are discussing how much we will save with solar charging. The 40 miles a day is based on an average usage of 100Wh/mi but unless you are on a road trip on open roads that you can average 68 mph which is very close the speed with 2 people with a total weight of 400 lbs and no wind can achieve. The much more likely condition is that your average speed will be much lower. Even if you do a great deal of highway driving, your speed is likely going to be around 36 mph. That means on average you would be consuming 57Wh/mi not 100Wh/mi. That means the solar charge you get will have much more meaning. (About 70 miles per day if you are in San Diego. It is still only 4000Wh of charge but if you average 57Wh/mi that is about 70 miles.) It also means that the 42kWh battery will more than likely give you 630 miles of range without solar charging. (Without using AC or heater and driving with an outdoor temperature of 70F. These little things actually matter when the vehicle is as efficient as the Aptera.) Of course if you are gunning it at every opportunity as if you were on the track, you efficiency will be less than ideal.
@GregHassler Жыл бұрын
Traveling more slowly is MORE efficient, not less efficient. Don't know where you pulled 57/Wh/mi from, and I don't want to know - though I have a good idea.
@ddessert6 Жыл бұрын
@@GregHassler That was my point. The 40 miles of free solar is based on a usage of 100Wh/mi. You are not likely to be consuming 100Wh/mi unless you are driving about 68 mph. Most people will drive on average much slower which is more efficient thus resulting in more free solar miles. Sorry I was not clear.

@lukasw9614 Жыл бұрын
Best to stop mentioning the 1000 mile range vehicle. Nobody needs that much range in such a commuter centric car, and in the very slim chance you can actually bring these cars to production you'll have to stick with 1 pack to ensure the factories are efficient.
@lewevans2413 Жыл бұрын
Off the top of my head you need 1000 mile range to drive from Adelaide to Darwin ..... the length of a continent with only two fast chargers in between.
@lukasw9614 Жыл бұрын
@@lewevans2413 that's a very specific use case that 99.99999% of people would never consider doing.

Not "commuter centric" for us! We are retired. We are very much looking forward to making the trips with the Launch Edition from our home in Bremerton, WA to our home in Newport, OR several times each year. Plenty of range to get there and plenty of cargo space for the stuff we take with us.
@bigredog100 Жыл бұрын
You do realize that there are more orders for the 1000 mile range version than the 250 right? More range means less charging. Less charging means more time on the road and quicker times to get to your destination.
@lukasw9614 Жыл бұрын
@@bigredog100 do you realize how many km the average driver covers each day? People are ordering the 1000mile varient because they are not educated and just think big number = better. 400 miles range with solar regeneration means you might have to charge once every couple months.

Does the Savings Calculator work for those who are currently paying per kilogram for gas instead of per gallon? Current vehicle is a Toyota Mirai, so that’s why I’m curious. Sold on Aptera anyway though and have been a reservation holder since October but I’m still wondering how much the actual savings relative to how much I’m paying per kilogram of hydrogen would be. Might want to add “Fuel Cell Vehicle” to the list of options to select from for the savings calculation to be optimal. Already did some manual calculations on my channel, but it’ll still be fun to get exact official figures regardless.
@312bigbeanburrito Жыл бұрын
doesn't the Mirai use hydrogen? The savings calculator assumes switching over from a gas car. Just stick with your manual calculations based on cost per kwh equivalent of hydrogen with the mi/kwh efficiency of your vehicle accounted for. It wouldn't make sense to build hydrogen into the calculator for the 12 people in America who drive a non-EV AFV
