This is the first episode in our Apu Adventures. In Peru, Apu is the spirit of the mountains and the protector of the local people. Paka’s mission is to inspire a deeper connection with nature, and get more people wearing it. Peru has so many amazing landscapes that we've decided to venture out, explore, and share these places and experiences with you.
The Huayhuash trek is typically a 5-10 day trek that circles the Huayhuash mountain range. It’s a beautiful high altitude trail that encompasses lakes, passes, and incredible views. Highlights include Carhuacocha lake, the Three Lake Lookout, and San Antonio Pass, which can all be seen here. The season typically ends around September, but this year it was shorter and we dealt with our fair share of rain and hail haha. And while it is doable with agencies and porters, we decided to just carry everything ourselves; just three friends and nature.

Peru is top of my most wanted destinations and countries I want to visit. My brother and I are going to do Machuu Pichuu of course but I would love to do other treks and parts of the country. This is the main reason I love your company and Paka materials. I love the message you are trying to spread and how you are spreading it. I am excited to see more. ❤

Amazing journey! Kris, I hope you have recovered. Even mild altitude sickness is awful. The video is outstanding!! Thanks to all those involved. Love Paka!

IDK what the altitude was when you turned back, but I'm sorry you suffered HAPE! I hope you are feeling better every day! I just returned from a 4 day / 3 night trek on one of the Inca trails to Machu Picchu. Our highest altitude was 13,800 feet. The altitude where I live is only 1,800 feet and there is really no way to prepare for effects of altitude. I was really feeling it (@ almost 65 yrs old!). Our group spent 4 days doing acclimatization hikes in various altitudes up to 11,00 feet to prepare for this hike. I loved the adventure, but don't think I'll be doing anything like this again. It was a "bucket list" adventure for me! I will love following your videos as you share them!

Absolutely. It was scary to experience all that fluid in the lungs. Grateful to have another go next season

I know the Andes in Ecuador are beautiful, and I just fell in love with Brazil's Atlantic Rain Forest (with Paka clothes layered on, as it was abnormally cold and rainy...), but this is stunning! Peru is on my birding list, so someday...

I'd like to suggest the lightweight APU be made in a waterproof shell, and with or without a hood. Love the company. Started with the socks, and now pretty much no day goes by where I'm not wearing PAKA. Socks, underwear, hoodie, teeshirts. And the original parka is in my closet waiting for the temps to drop closer to 0F. Thank you!
