The English teacher utilises a range of structural shifts beginning with direct address that instill a sense of intrigue in the viewer to be purposefully subverted by the end. This is juxtaposed by the ominous tone created by the sudden drastic switch to black in the end, followed by two minutes of strange, random music alluding to the possibility that this video is purposefully deceptive, or implying that the teacher wanted for some reason to reach the 26-minute mark... (good video thanks!)

Hello Mr Salles - I have a question. So you suggest writing about one text first and then comparing it with another I guess in two separate parts. My teachers says this limits access to higher marks and that you should compare them side by side! I don’t know what to do ?!
@mooodlemip47792 жыл бұрын
Another commenter asked this and Mr Salles replied saying both methods work equally well so ig it’s really up to what you find easiest

make sure you add your comparative words so the examiner know that you're comparing if you are doing it in separate paragraphs
@_lilja2 жыл бұрын
Mr salles is comparing each of his previous points with the other text, if you are doing it in two parts, make sure to continue to compare- this doesn't limit you- however if you forget to do this, it would be better to work side-by-side.

Hi there Mr Salles, your videos have been of tremendous help to me, and thank you so muhc for posting them, but I had a question. In one of your videos earlier, you mentioned the examiner's suggested method and talked about how to make a viewpoint from Source A, quote, name the method and then suggest how it is different to Source B and quote etc. However, in this video you are showing that we have to write everything for Source A in terms of language analysis, and then write everything for Source B after, but embedding some phrases to show that we are contrasting? I am confused as to how to start my answer

hi sir, i’m currently watching the news on climate change. this is in preparation for tomorrow article writing, and a specific fact i learnt was was that we need to reduce carbon emissions by 43% before 2030 in order to prevent irreversible climate change. If i relate this to future generations with language devices such as sibilance, punctuation such as ellipsis, and direct address to really give the ready a sense of emotional connection of something that is happening right now? this is a technique i’ve learnt from your brilliant teaching. I plan on reading articles on Global and UK Xenephobia in the past 5 years, Space, Abelism, Children in society and their mental health, COVID-19 and Societal judgement towards lower paying jobs, in relation to classism.

I tried a Q4 with your structure can you tell me what you think of it In Source A, there are varying perspectives of the elephant. The sub-inspector from the other station uses the violent verb “ravaging” which suggests that he believes the elephant is a violent creature. On the other hand, the policeman seems to be curious about the elephant. He takes his rifle, not to kill the elephant, but simply to make some “noise”. In the beginning of Source A, the attitudes towards the elephant seem to be fearful, especially from the crowd. However, it’s clear that the elephant is wildly misunderstood. Despite it being described as “tame” the elephant’s death is largely anticipated by the “sea of faces” the use of this metaphor is effective because “sea” suggests that many people share this misunderstood fearful perspective. The writer then uses the policeman’s reluctant attitude to exemplify how the elephant is in fact innocent and is described as “peacefully eating”, The adverb “peacefully” connotes a gentle nature. So, by the end of the extract the overall perspective has changed, and the writer appreciates the true gentle nature of the elephant but despite this, the man believes that he has no choice and there is “only one alternative” which is to murder the elephant. On the other hand, the attitudes to the elephant in source B are completely different to source A. The owners care for the elephant as they “remove the dirt and filth off him” and describe him as the “poor beast”. The adjective ‘poor’ suggests that the owners feel sympathy for the elephant, whereas the noun ‘beast’ demonstrate that the owners also know that the elephant isn’t a human and shouldn’t be treated as such. So even though they have no cruel intentions, the owners know when to ‘give him a good thrashing’ so that they don’t ‘ravage’ the town like the elephant in source A does. However, as the extract progresses the perspectives shift subtly. Now the owners seem to be more wary of the elephant they don’t understand him as he is an adult. This is exemplified as the writer uses the phrase “strange to say” the adjective “strange” suggests that the narrator no longer understands the elephant’s behaviour, and this makes him more wary, however not to the point of fear. So, the overall perspective in source A from the crowd is a reaction that involves lashing out in fear, whilst the policeman is reluctant to murder the elephant as he acknowledges that it’s peaceful, however he doesn’t care for it enough to sacrifice his pride. On the other hand, despite the fact that nobody “dared” to go near him, most of the characters in source B don’t actually fear the elephant but instead appreciate his value and even care for him. P.s it's the elephant question from November 2019 also what mark would you give it?
