QUESTION: WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS BRAND AND THIS MODEL, do you have any advise, regrets, or opinions about other good combi boilers or cautions?
@PH-xt9wq3 жыл бұрын
Beautiful installation! I am in the process of completing the same installation and was wondering if you tried hooking up the additional circulator to electrical item #32 of the wiring diagram that seems to permits additional circulators (see pp 49 & 54 of boiler manual). As per the wiring diagram, circuits #9 & #10 are hot and neutral, and #11 is ground. I am using Taco pump (0015-MSF-IFC). If you don't mind me asking, is this something you tried and it failed or something you missed. The reason why I ask is I am using low water cutoff switch (LWCO switch Taco LTA-2), which is item #370 on the wiring diagram. The wiring is provided for a LWCO switch. So it seems to me that the boiler can accommodate both a secondary circulator and also a LWCO switch, as per the wiring diagram. Lastly, per code here, I must also plumb in a high temp switch. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, and once again, beautiful install!

Amazing set up....!!! We got WMB-155C apx 2 year back, so far very happy with performance. Family of 4 with kids using unlimited hot water. We don't have the sediment separator for water coming back from the radiators. Recently, after cold wave I am hearing a thumping noise every time after hot water demand. Is it a concern ? Also, can you make a video how to drain the radiators and flush the boiler ?
@justinbright5 жыл бұрын
Thanks appreciate it. Thumping noise in your system just sounds like water hammer issue -- maybe you just need a water hammer arrestor on the hot water line? My sediment separator actually doesn't actually capture that much in my system, guessing it's pretty clean especially since it's a closed system.

@@justinbright The technician inspected the situation, immediately he pointed out loose cover was the reason. The air pump inside is supposed to take air from air pipe, but if the cover is loose, it wiggles. He kept some insulation on edge and tightened the screws, that stopped. Thanks for your advise.

@DaleFamily32914 жыл бұрын
. A typical - system removes calcium and magnesium ions from hard and replaces them with sodium ions. ... Gradually, most of the sodium ions are released into the household , and the resin becomes saturated with calcium and magnesium ions. AKA buy a water softener.

You suppose to clean the system annually to clean the calcium, check some you tube on how to do it, also water softer and filter is a plus

Very Clean - thanks for posting. Do you know if there is a need for an external circulation pump if you use just the boiler function on the combi unit Weil-McLain AquaBalance™ WMB-80C - 73K BTU? I know there is an internal 3 speed pump included. We wired in a external circ pump but it runs constantly which makes it hot. It appears to be using the same line voltage terminals from the internal pump which I figured would turn off at some point.
@justinbright5 жыл бұрын
I believe you need to wire the external pump to a relay so they can work independently of one another, you shouldn't have the external pump running constantly. I would contact Weil-McLain to get confirmation on this as I'm no expert.

I'm in the process of installing an AB 155c. Your pressure problem might be caused by your expansion tank being too small. I'm installing an EX 90 Amtrol which has a 14.4 gal. capacity. Everything I've read says that oversizing is better than undersizing.

I have a 13 year old Buderus GB142-45 (155k btu) unit that I would like to replace and reading specs I think this would be close replacements. I have 3-level house 800 sf each level. The current boiler connects to 3 external pumps for 3 heating zones and also has 30gal. DHW storage tank. House is in suburban NY (Westchester Cty.) Its just the 2 of us now and we always had sufficient hot water and heat. I'm not a plumber so will need an installer. Any comments and suggestions on this unit?

There's an internal circulator pump, but not an internal expansion tank that I'm aware of -- couldn't find any mention of one in the manual or parts list. Manuals states you need to add appropriate sized expansion tank to the system.

I hope I am not being a pain in the butt. I have an ultra boiler that just broke and have been reserching putting this one in place of it since I have a 10yr old tankless hot water heater as well that I anticipate breaking soon as well. After reading the manual and comparing your install to the recommendations, did your installer forgo the recommended pipe size of the "loop" as well as having the "loop". It is hard to tell from the video if that is 3/4" pipe coming form the supply and return or more. Also hard to tell if it loops at the top by the ceiling above the expansion tank. One thing that isn't clear in the manual since it shares the same instruction manual as the no DWH version is if a circulator pump is required on the loop or if the internal pump replaces it.
@justinbright6 жыл бұрын
No problem at all. WM recommends a primary-secondary loop, but I just went with a primary loop with one circulator (the internal one) for my install. Piping in/out is 1-inch that then branches off to 3/4-inch pipes to the radiators shortly after the air separator/expansion tank. You might try contacting WM support, they are very helpful and can clear up questions you have on your particular install.
@diymadness23306 жыл бұрын
Thanks for all the feedback. I guess I am going blind or the resolution on my 4k monitor is upscaling the video quality blurry but I just can't see where the primary loop meet the 2 T's just above the compression tank. If they are there, sweet, if they are not, call the installer back in!! I get the feeling that when the temps start getting really cold outside that you will be installing a small pump such as the taco 007 to your secondary since the primary loop pump is only designed for short runs with high GPM such as the taco 014. I like the fact that you put this video up since Combi Bolilers are so new to the USA and you are helping us transition to newer technology. I am not trying to judge your install only trying to help future installations. One other critique, I would move your water filter just before the t to your cold water supply manifold to the house so all your water is filtered not just the hot water.

@its_bob_from_accounting8012 жыл бұрын
one of the most horrible boiler designs ever ... regardless of the btu range these were not meant to handle the constant load of a house hold of more than 2 people . the domestic hot water usage causes the most damage due to the crappy tolerance each compression fitting has internally . Also the way the gas pipe and domestic water in/out gets plumbed based on the manual is prob the root cause of the damage to the internal piping . gas should be connected to the unit with a flexible whip in order to eliminate directional pull as black pipe would cause strain on the bottom plate of the boiler , domestic hot water should have stainless steel braided hoses . reason is to reduce tension pull during thermal expansion and water flow pressure . this boiler at best is for a single person living condition or for heat only.
