Military Helicopters On The River : Metal Detecting

I was back on the river, metal detecting and searching for coins, relics, and jewelry. While I was metal detecting, military helicopters kept circling me. Then one came down on the deck and flew right past me going upriver. I found some Civil War relics and other interesting artifacts, even though I was a little freaked out by the air operations.
As always this is a how to metal detecting outdoor adventure vlog that is family friendly and hopefully a fun video.

My wife would really like to have that hunk of coal for her classes. She has taught at Tier 3 and 4 Universities, didn't like the politics, but has found her calling in teaching 8th, 9th, graders. As far as the hunk of coal, she has in the past as well as the present had students at Tier 3 and Tier 4 universities and her current 8th and 9th graders who have never seen a piece of coal. It's would be a great item to have to show a real piece of history. Especially to those who don't have any real idea about history.

I offer my condolences on the lost shirt and Colonial Button. My family [from childhood through now in my 60's] has always lived in towns with Air Force Bases, and no, it was never by design. In Texas, most medium sized cities, got that way, because of the airbases after WWII and the Cold War. For me, it's not choppers that get my attention every time, it's BIG airplanes. I was in Abilene, Tx when the first rounds of B1 Bombers were delivered. Stop my heart! That is THE most Beee-utiful bird in the sky. Every time I'd hear that after burner kick in, I'd run out side to see it. Cold War B52's are like pteradactyls in the sky- horrifying, they are so BIG! I was visiting my parents at their farm south of Abilene one weekend, when I heard the most earth shaking noise and dashed outside to see what was flying over head: a perfect formation of a B1 Bomber, modern B52 bomber, a C130 transport, and a B2 Bomber [Wedge]. It was phenomenal sight! They were flying low, just barely above the legal limit of airspace; I could see them all so perfectly! I could surmise they were flying to an Airshow someplace south. Either that, or that C130 was carrying half of the gold at Fort Knox, to need 3 Bombers for escort. baroom chuck.

16:53 True! As a kid, my dad was in an ARRS unit in helicopters, and I developed a fondness for them. Even now, as a retired graybeard, I freak my wife out by running out the front door when I hear the unmistakable sounds of the military birds. I have to hurry and get to the choppers! 😊

Growing up in the 90s i watched a lot of action movies like First Blood (Rambo) Delta Force, Commando and so on, as well as a lot of other war movies, loved them. There was a lot of helicopters in them thar movies. So as an adult now, any time i hear a helicopter i automatically associate them with some type of adventure or G.I. Joe type action, and i believe thats why i always look up when i see them. I subconsciously expect to see something Rambo-ish, or exciting.

Yeah I'm with you on Helicopter's, When I was younger I was a Medical First Responder and had to load a lot of Patients on medical helicopters, that hooked me Everytime I hear one I stop and watch and takes pictures if I have my Camera with me.

Those are Army UH-60s. The missile looking items are external fuel tanks. I retired out of Ft. Knox. We flew the Ohio all the time. Those could be out of Knox, depending on where you are.

Not unusual to find military helicopters flying along rivers. They use natural landmarks for direction. Roads, highways as well.Want to see guys jumping out of choppers into water. Where I live outside Ft Campbell it's very common on the lakes on base. Air Assault.

Depends where you are on the river, but there are definitely places on the Virginia side that could draw attention. Important people visiting those places wouldn't want unknown scruffy looking guys in fancy fast boats lurking around.
