Aquaforest Component 1+2+3+ and Fish Trap Review

The fish trap is from Amazon and the name is Sea Side Aquatics Collapsible FTC - Small Fish Trap. The three part calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium is Aquaforest Component 1+2+3+ and is based on the "balling method".

I certainly wish you well with your future reefing endeavors. I just happened to come across your channel from searching for more information about Aquaforest Component 1+2+3+ dosing system. I can understand your logic for not dosing the third component to the system however I don't necessarily agree with it. Reason is this system is designed to be dosed in equal amounts and each of the major elements contain certain amounts of minor and trace elements. Each component with the respective minor & trace elements are to be dosed without any precipitation of the elements as long as they are allowed some time between each of the components. Therefore if you continue to only dose the two components eventually your system will become unbalanced and could potentially crash. With the home work I have done on Aquaforest 1+2+3+. Fauna Marin's Ready2Reef and personal experience with Tropic Marin's All for Reef. They are basically similar products however the Aquaforest product does appear to have something about it that just makes the corals really pop in growth and coloration. I am seriously considering making the switch sooner than later. Good luck.

I love my AF 1,2,3 but be careful to does it in equal amounts and to dose calcium, alkalinity and magnesium separately so your trace elements don't go out of whack. I made that mistake and i had through the roof levels of metals! ICP was the best money i ever spent to identify my problem, the product works great, it was my mistake. Happy reefing! i am sure you will get great results like i did!

Thanks for the heads up. I dose the calcium and alk in exact equal amounts. I try not to chase one or the other. I like to get my calcium where I want it and then I dose the alk the same amount. So if 25ml of calcium gets me to about 450ppm then I will dose exactly 25ml of alk. At about that amount it measures good to about 8.5 dkh.

​@@praveshshilotripsThe Aquaforest Component 1+2+3+ system is loosely based on the Balling Method and is not designed to be added individually. The products are ment to dosed together in balance. Think of this as a way to maintain your parameters between adjustments. With the use of this product you will still need to measure & make nessary adjustments to your parameters with an Alkalinity, Calcium and Magnesium product as your corals grow and create a larger bio load on the system.

Glad you enjoy it. My equipment is aquamax hob 1.5 protein skimmer innovative marine desktop media reactor. I am now using red sea activated carbon. jebao doser pump for alk and calcium Thats about it. The protein skimmer is over kill and you can definetely do with a smaller one. I am now doing monthly water changes.

Sorry, I watched until 7.28 and had to stop. You do not understand how the aquaforest 123 system works. All three components need to be dosed to take advantage of it. otherwise it would not be much better than any competitor 2 part solutions. go read up on "balling method".

No problem. I don't know everything. I have been on it for around 6 months now and my magnesium has never dropped below 1450 not dosing magnesium. I read lots of other people experiencing the same issue. I do dose AF potassium as I read that is in their magnesium component part. If you can please explain why I should dose the magnesium part. Would I not be over shooting mag at that point?

One thing I don't understand is that your supposed to dose equal amount of all three but my tank don't use any mag but shit loads of ca and alk . Surley if I dose equal to my ca and alk then the mag levels will go through the roof! Am I not understanding something here with this aqua forest stuff? Any advice would be great. Thanks

You should always try to dose equal (or close to it) amount of 2 parts which is Alk and calcium, not magnesium. This is a 3 part system but the magnesium should be dosed somewhere around 1/10 the amount of the other 2 parts. I personally have not even put any of the magnesium in the system since my salt mix magnesium is through the roof. So to sum it up, DO NOT dose the part 3 (magnesium) in equal amounts or you will highly overdose. Hope this helps.

Also it is the fact that magnesium levels drop extremely slower than calcium and alkalinity.
