Tom is just a breathtakingly talented guitarist. Probably should be an in-demand session guy, if they still use session musicians these days.

Fabulous. Martin said he recorded that in one take, and Jimmy Page was distracting him from the control booth!

And that “intentional” missed note at 51 sec is exactly what I’ve been looking for in these covers! And in my opinion you’ve duplicated it perfectly. I’ve rediscovered this song after many, many years and have played the original version over and over again over the last week or so and each time I listen I notice that missed note. I’m not a musician but can pick out intricate instrument “things” from songs. So this one missed note is something I was curious if any covers would reproduce and finally found someone that did it. You! Well done. (Sort of like that little harmonic at the end of George Harrison’s solo in Nowhere man ... I’m always looking for that in covers). Incidentally, I saw Jethro Tull in 1978 in Philadelphia. I forgot how much I love this song!

One of my ALL TIME favorite solo’s. Martin Barr was in Key west not too long ago. I was booked and couldn’t make his show. 😐

My brother caught the show in St Louis and said he skipped the guitar solo in aqualung altogether can you believe that?
@phatbackbeat65534 жыл бұрын
LEADSOLO that’s a sacrilege ! That’s like Page passing on soloing on Stairway to Heaven ! I’ve seen a few live clips of Martin soloing on Aqualung.., he never “caught that lightening in a bottle” again.., I was never impressed with any other ‘takes’.., almost like he had given up on trying to recreate the magic ?

@@LEADSOLO He's tired of it, though acknowledges many still want to hear it. He tries to keep things fresh with his group. Tull shows became "predictable" and "stale", as he put it. I've seen every tour he's done since the break-up. All different blends, all powerful, as the old Tull performances were. Thanks for your work!! Studying your Rock n' Roll Hoochie Koo solo. Need to dig into the wallet and buy the tab!

Really good. That's the best, overall, guitar solo of all time (in my opinion). It was so well composed, and played and enjoyable by both guitar experts, and normal folks. Unfortunately, I never heard Martin play it that way live. He always went crazy shredding and never played anything even close to the beauty of that original, studio track.

One of my favorites. Great. At 53,54 seconds I hear something a little different than the record version, but not criticizing at all. Saw them live over a dozen times and that solo was never played the same as they had recorded it.
@LEADSOLO5 жыл бұрын
I think you're referring to the 51 second mark. I figured that was the note you heard before I even watched it. I did it intentionally but what I did there was play a short note and leave some space. That is because on the record right there he plays a note with his left hand but misses picking it with his right (not saying intentionally but it's the way it's played). So it comes out muffled. I tried to get that across by leaving a little space there as that note is quieter on the recording. Very observant of you to catch.
@mguerramd Жыл бұрын
We get used to hearing recorded music note for note, timbre for timbre, nuance for nuance, especially when we listen to it endlessly! Which is easy to do with Tull. So you kind of expect to hear that at the concert. But it never is. The live performance is always unique. Which is fine. We can always immerse ourselves in the album anytime...

Good breakdown...I think the hardest part of this solo where most players fly by the seat of their pants is at the 45 second mark the quick pentatonic run it's hard to nail that exactly like the recording.
