I was so close to finishing the game one time, but my family was going somewhere & my mom was screaming at me to get moving. She finally stormed in the room & yanked the cord out of the wall. I never had the will to try that hard again. :(

@retrowens When you collect all 32 treasures, the game freezes to indicate that you beat the game. Back in 1982, you were supposed to take a picture of your score with a film camera. Once you did, you send that photo to Activision, and get a sew-on patch to indicate that you are without a doubt a TRUE retro gamer!

Got all 32 treasures, didn't take a pic, & did it about 12 or 14 years after the game's release. :(

" .... SEVEN! Seven scrorpions! There had better be treasure waiting for me after this. OH, YOU HAVE GOT TO BE FUCKING KIDDING ME!" lol!

If I remember correctly, there are a total of 256 screens, and if you go underground it skips 3 screens on the top. You didn't mention that like a lot of Activision games you could send in a picture of your score and get an iron-on patch. I think the score was 20k, which is not too difficult to get. Every time I sent off for a patch they were always out of Pitfall patches and sent me some other patch for some game like Spider Fighter :(

Remember though, you can't get a perfect score without learning which underground routes to take (I just found this out myself). There isn't enough time to finish every screen without the short cuts.

I think Adventure was the best game for the Atari (crap graphics and all) but this game was seriously addictive and a lot of fun

Fun fact: Jack Black advertised this game back in ‘82.

Have you ever played the Arcade version of Pitfall? I've seen it only once in my entire life (until MAME came along anyway) and it's pretty good, it's really a rehash of Pitfall II with much better graphics and mine carts, Sega also made it and it looks remarkably like a Master System game, even using the same Tree sprites from Wonder Boy and Safari Hunt.

wait...is there an actual ending to the game if you collect all 32 treasures in 20 minutes? most vcs games didnt have "endings" but ive always wondered about this game when i was a kid...

I remember when this came out and we were all amazed at the graphics and gameplay... 😂
@ude4hu67s14 жыл бұрын
When you go underground, you actually skip ahead to the third screen. So it is possible to make a map and find the quickest way to all the treasures.

How do you make your reviews ? Record with emulators and narrate the timeline in Movie Maker or other software ?
@Gecko1993HogheadIncOfficial12 жыл бұрын
@alonzo9772 Nope, Donkey Kong was the first ever platformer.

SEVEN Scorpions, Brick Wall. One time where the F-Bomb was warranted! :)
@pex_the_unalivedrunk67856 жыл бұрын
I agree & the underground route is completely pointless...literally. Staying above & trying to get all the treasure without ever hitting a log, losing a life or wasting time to get a perfect score is what it's all about. Good Luck!
@rootykazooty3515 жыл бұрын
No, you can only beat the game by going underground as each of those screens skip three overland screens and save a lot of precious time. It's the only way to collect all of the treasures before the timer runs out. Great game.

So the very Atari sound effect when Harry grabs the vines is supposed to be a Tarzan yell. Johnny Weismuller actually created that sound from his history as a yodeler.

LOL with the scorpions, that made me laugh so dang hard.

Ew. 14 scorpions, and nothing to show for it but a brick wall? Cruel, Pitfall. XD Cruel. But even so, it still looks like an awesome game (and not just for its time, either, certainly). Good show, Aqualung! Good show.

I used to play this game on my Uncle's Intellivision. I loved this game back then and I still play it today on my Atari Flashback or emulator. For me these old games are the best. In recent years, since the major comeback of retro games -- NES SNES Genesis/Megadrive etc. -- I find myself playing Atari games most of the time. I love Atari.
