Phil Collins has no need to doubt his ability and influence of many generations of musicians and fans alike. Just know its OK to be just Phil, the rest is history and speaks volumes for itself, Peace to that anxiety of being worthy, its been unjustified anxiety of someone who keeps giving to others more than themselves!

explosive0effects well he's an incredible music writer and innovator. he spawned the drum sound of the 80s, created the most recognized drum fill of all time, he recorded all instrumentens by himself on both sides, so you can't say he's shit at guitar or bass, and he has a very powerful and technically brilliant voice. i mean, just look at him performing supper's ready live. 23 minutes of never missing a note, and that's with him extending shit too. complete and utter nonsense you're spewing.

Phil Collins is a precise, correct, and accurate drummer and has a sense of the rhythm fantastic. I do not understand why many American and English magazines do not consider him, as if it were a "mediocre drummer". Craziness! I have yet to hear (in recent times, 1970, 1980, 2000 etc, etc) of this level drummers. However the magazine "Rolling Stones" P.Collins considers a "mediocre". Maybe he did not pay the bribe ...

robertoladisa Philnis amazing no doubt, but as time goes on, more and more people are coming out of depths capable of this level of playing. I mean, first example: Brand X's current drummer; Kenny Grohowski.

@@richardnixon682 What on earth makes you say that? There's only one drummer credited for the drums on Unorthodox Behaviour (Brand X's debut album which this piece is from) and it's Phil Collins. Morris Pert played on some of their later albums, however he played percussion, not a drum-kit.

A lot of people give props to Phil because of this track, but you have to take into account the rest of the guys, the constant awesome bass lines by Percy, the awesome guitar riff by Goodsall and the captivating heavily-delayed keyboard solo by Lumley. Everyone in this album is insanely skilled! The rest of this album keeps this same level of awesomeness. There are bands and musicians who are extremely skilled, yet they can come up with music this good.

Much more jazz drumming.....which just is not rock. I wonder where Phil Collins might have gone were he to have driven/dove into jazz. I am convinced he would have been legendary. But jazz is not something you can 'dabble' in. You have to live it, feel it. Wynton Marsalis understood this when he left classical music. Rock certainly made a good living, unlike jazz. I would love to hear Phil on this subject and if he ever had any regrets.

@Jfilth If you don't know them already: Mahavishnu Orchestra was a staple. Chick Corea with Return to Forever. Try also albums made in the '70s by members of those two groups: Stanley Clarke, John McLaughlin, Billy Cobham. Al Dimeola, Jean-Luc Ponty. Bill bruford has done interesting things but solo (Not with Yes or King Crimson etc...). Uzeb. Jerry Goodman and Jan Hammer. There are many, but those are the obvious ones.

Check your dates - Firth of Fifth was cut in 1973, and this song in 1976. I think it's much safer to say that the drummer has a unique style, developed through his own intense musicianship, and that there are similarities of approach throughout his range. I wouldn't say that the drumming here was in any way similar to that he did in Genesis, though.

What a talent! A good drum lesson for those who love musical instrument! Away from the circus jugglers multiple pedals like "thomas lang and co)" Phil collins sends us his talent as a musician, ingenuity and finesse. Thank you Phil!

I've been a Phil Collins fan science '86 (I was 5). I never knew this band existed till this year. I would not have liked this then, but I love fusion. Anything that doesn't get radio AirPlay I find extremely enjoyable. Thanks for the upload. Great song.

lawnboyfreak I'm unsure if you're familiar with any Genesis works from 1971 to 1980, but if you aren't, do yourself a favor... get familiar.

@@rogerwaters3165 Excellent album for sure but actually no Phil Collins on Trespass (or Steve Hackett for that matter).

You hold an awfully long grudge don't you... I don't disagree with a thing you said... but man he could play those drums, there are moments on the Lamb that give me goosebumps just like this does. Prog rock died, and the virtuosos who created it had to make a buck (they never got rich like the pop charlatans they were up against). It is what it is...

Impressionante o vigor de Phil. A sonorização de sua bateria neste deste disco está idêntica à do A trick of the tales do Genesis. Reparem!!!!

I think you have that backwards - Brand X was formed in the mid-70's, after Genesis had been together for several years. Their most metrically complex work is from before Brand X was formed. After Brand X was formed, Genesis started to go in a more rhythmically simple direction.

im not washing his hands of anything he did wrong. but he wrote songs that millions of people enjoyed and brought happiness to their lives. thats the point of music. i would say he hit the nail on the head more than another musician who plays something that 1% of the population cares for.
