Thank you Jake! As always HIGHLY informative :) However, as a few other viewer mentioned, it would be really useful to have a segment about how to actually dial in the color mix and intensity throughout a photosynthetic cycle for the main type of tanks (LPS, SPS, mixed). Do you just run the same color mix/intensity throughout the cycle or you are introducing variation? Also, are you using ramp up/down periods or it is more of a "lights ON/lights OFF" affair. There is A LOT about lightning that still needs to be properly spelled out. Please educate us! ;-)

Would you be willing to share your opinion on spectrums with "respiration periods" ie. having the spectrum zigzag subtly?
@ReefBuildersVideo3 жыл бұрын
I studied photosynthesis and respiration in corals for years using micron size oxygen probes - there isn't even a theoretical justification for having a zig zag lighting intensity, and I've seen no evidence that it is any better or more effective than having a proper intensity and water flow to begin with.

@jennanation69922 жыл бұрын
Why are kessils so popular if they dont give you the green and reds and all the other colors beside white and blue? Can you get good growth and color pop without them? What is your opinion of red seas leds? I know they don have the other colors either but I need a small low powered led for a nuvo 20 and I like the way red seas lights look with the universal mounts versus AI prime! Plus 50 bucks cheaper but only blue and white channel versus prime. What do you think of fluval sea 20 watt nano light? I can only mount my lights 5 inches above tank because of my kitchen cabinets unless I mount from the side I can still center them. So I am either thinking of 2 20 watt fluvals mounted at 5 inches or 1 red sea mounted about 12 from the side! have heard great things about the fluvial lights even though they are not considered high grade! I hate the aquatic life edge that I have on it now. The warm white is to yellow and the tank grows nothing but algae! I have it on acclimation mode now because of the bright yellow and reds but I am sure its not bright enough. I was thinking of adding my other edge strip and running 2 on acclimation mode and ,maybe that would be enough! It would defietly save money and I bought two incase I wanted to grow a few sps! Very informative video!

Channel 4 bright green and the soft green. Also can be operated independently. They are doing a good job and only cost me £350 about $466 for you. They are PopBlooms Japanese manufacturer but they have a base in Italy and Germany as well as Japan. Mine came from the The base in Germany. And so far so good I have no bad things to say about them there’s not really any cons. You could say no Wi-Fi is the biggest con but it doesn’t bother me the controller as an LED screen which is operated no different to how you operate on a phone.

The guy who came up with the idea to let us control every color of the rainbow, was a marketing genius!!! They gave us the option, and we decided it was an absolutely necessity and a much needed thing. How did we every get a coral to survive under a metal halide and some blue actinic T12's??? "Please tell me how much green and red my coral needs" ~ Everyone Here's the answer: A ton of corals in the ocean wouldn't know what red was, even if you sent them to art school. They live their entire life in the blue. They've spent generations adapting to the blues, and lack of reds. Blue light penetrates easiest, and that's a good thing for us. Less power for more light at the desired depth. Plus it makes the corals look like Time Square at Christmas. Oh man, I love the blues!!! Fish are expensive though... and colorful... and that's why I use some cool white! That's it... That's the only reason. To see the fish that I paid dearly for in all of their glory. Can a perfect spectrum combination of light make a specific kind of coral grow 1mm bigger over 5 years... Sure, maybe! Can too much red harm a coral that is fully adapted to life in the blue... Sure, maybe! Here's the secret sauce (don't tell anyone I told you the secret): Step 1: Crank the blues! Step 2: Adjust everything else to your personal taste. In my opinion the greed, red, and yellow (warm) are wasted channels. They make the tank look muddy. I love the blues with a hint of cool white (which is just white that leans towards the blues). So I run blues and a little cool white. You may like a green or red tint to your tank... You do you!!! I won't judge.

I wanted to ask what would you do if you had a tank under a kitchen cabinet and only had 4 1/2 inches of space? I am racking my brain! I have come up with the fluval marine 3.0 and current orbit or orbit ic. The reason is they are strip lights and will fit but I know they are not considered high end. I am leaning more towards fluval because their colors are violet, blue ,cyan, pink and white while current is 445 blue 46o blue and white red and green. I dont know the nano meters of fluvals but I have read that corals need 420 or below I think for chloropyll A. I know you just said that violet is 430. Do you think that would work for production of chloropyll A? I have thought of ai primes since they are on a 12 inch mount and bendable so think I could make them work but how about being only 4 1/2 inches from tank? I am afrid of a big hot spot then very low par near that. So would you do something like that or the fluval or current. Also thoight of sawing legs off of reefbuilders photon! I really want good growth and color pop as well. I do plan on getting 2 of the strips or whichever light I choose. Fluval has 32 par per light. My tank is 24 wide by 12 deep. Please help! I am going nut and want to get some corals in there! I have a cheap corallife on there temporaily!
