What type of star fish do you have in your sump. I have a chocolate star fish in my little boy nano which i want to take out and throw it in the sump that way he could add a coral in there. I've been wondering if he will do okay cleaning the sump.

Very nice instructional video pal. Thank you very much for the advertising. For all the new people that you sent for Mud Trays, I've now attached a small handle to the tray to that is ease of access in and out. Whoa! Thanks for the sump draining idea! I have a garden spigot less than 20 feet away. I never considered hooking it up outside (facepalm). Does the saltwater harm the grass?
@ReeferGil9 жыл бұрын
MrSkumFrog I think saltwater can kill grass if introduced in large amounts. If you take your garden hose after the water change and spray your grass, I think you'll be okay. Thanks for the comment!

Hi Gil. Thanks for sharing your video. What bulb do you recommend for your refuge to grow the chaeto? Thanks.
@ReeferGil8 жыл бұрын
+Robert Rainey (Bearclawws) Robert, thanks for watching. I honestly can't recommend a specific bulb. I know there are threads that speak about a wide range of bulbs. I have seen and heard of people buying cheap clip-on hoods and bulbs from places like Home Depot with success. The bulb I have is definitely keeping the chaeto alive, but I have not had to harvest any in over a year. It stays green, but it's not growing at all. Whatever you do, you do not need to spend a whole lot of money on a fuge light.

Great video, but I thought the point of only replacing 50% was so you leave the other 50% undisturbed...? Doesn't mixing them up wreck the anaerobic deep sand bed effect?
@ReeferGil9 жыл бұрын
mnelson10000 Good point, but I avoid deep sand beds. I only have about two inches. If you're running a deep sand bed then you probably do not want to disturb it the way I did. Another point I wish I had thought of. Thanks!

I will be setting up a Red Sea reefer 450 and it will be a SPS Dominant tank. Would you recommend a calcium and Kalk reactor or a dosing
@ReeferGil9 жыл бұрын
+raymarc japson I would say start with Kalk, but 450 is huge. If it were me, I would likely start with a Calcium reactor early on to get the gist of it and tinker with the adjustments before I introduce SPS into the tank. This way you'll be familiar with the calcium reactor long before you have SPS. Takes the stress of killing you corals, or at least dramatically reduces it if you know how to make appropriate adjustments. Hope that all made sense.
@RJSRanchu9 жыл бұрын
Do you use a calcium reactor&kalkwasser or do you dose
@ReeferGil9 жыл бұрын
+raymarc japson My Alk and Ca are automatically dosed everyday. I also put some Fauna Marin Balling 1,2 and 3 inside of the containers. I've had great success so far (3 years). Calcium reactors are great, but you need a whole lot more space for the reactor and CO2 tank. Thanks for the post.

Do you think using media bags would prevent clouding?
@ReeferGil7 жыл бұрын
altops What sort of clouding? Sand? Size of aquarium?
@ReeferGil7 жыл бұрын
Sorry, I see your watching the miracle mud video. I'm guessing you mean clouding as a result of adding new mud. You can try carbon, but the mud is most likely too dense. I'd shut off all your pumps and let thing settle for an hour or so. If you allowed a lot of mud to cloud up the water, it may take a long while for it to clear up. I wouldn't keep the pumps off longer than an hour or two.
@altops44907 жыл бұрын
Putting the miracle mud in a media bag to contain it and prevent severe cloudy
@ReeferGil7 жыл бұрын
altops No, the mud is too fine. A media bag won't hold it unfortunately.

blish killeen Sorry for what? I appreciated your last comment. Hey Gil! 2 Questions buddy. I'm about to order one of these trays from primo reef acrylics and wanted to know what dimensions your tray is. LengthxWidthxHeight Also, do you find a lot of detritus collecting underneath your slimmer platform? If yes how to you manage to clean it out? Seems too tight for the aqueon to fit ?
@ReeferGil9 жыл бұрын
Checkout ***** video on the mud tray. I don't recall the exact dimensions, but he mentions them in the video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rmG9pnekZ6hkftU. I was initially concerned with detritus but found none under the tray after 8-9 months. I did see a little mud, but not detritus outside of the tray.
