At first I thought glofish were tacky but I warmed up to them and now have about 2 to 3 dozen of them in my tanks. I am waiting for the angelfish glofish to be commercially released next.

GloFish are a cool experiment. They’re interesting from a genetics standpoint, but personally, they’re not my taste. I prefer the naturally occurring colorations of fish and all other species- but genetic alteration is a pretty neat process.

Considering it sounds like glo fish aren't made that way with something like Radium (which I saw a video about on Informal History), I'm not sure it's a horrible thing. Genetically modifying things can be controversial though. The fish look pretty cool! No idea how or if the glo dna affects the life of a fish.

The way the glo fish look is neat, but definitely need more info on a moral level. If the fish are not negatively impacted by the genetic modification (health, lifespan, etc) AND they’re sold with proper care guides that work (looking at you, big pet chains), I’ll appreciate them without worrying.

Painted Glass Fish were actually painted on. And the paint would come off eventually, usually 6 months or so leaving you with a clear Fish. I think the Glow Fish are cool.

Yeah, it's definitley worse. They also dye fish by dipping them in a solution to strip away their slime coat then into the dye. The color on those only lasts a few months I think.Thankfully it's been a long time since I've seen either in a store so maybe the practice has fallen out of favor.

No they don't. I have a 40 gallon female betta harem tank and a 10 gallon male betta tank and I can tell you they just pick a corner and sit in a certain spot all day long until food comes. They are active for 1 year or but once they get older, they just want to chill. The females, are they same, when they get older, they pick their own "territory" in the tank and just guard it.
