Great video Cory! Tip for removing rock wool especially for plants that have very fine roots like Crypts and Swords it to swish the root ball in water or hold it under a slowly running faucet. The wool will loosen from even the smallest roots and if you're careful you can remove all of it pretty easily.

For plants like anubias, i just use small cable tie, tie the rhizome to a piece of wood or lava rock. Then bury the rock or wood in the substrate.

Hey cory, been watching your videos for a few months now after setting up a new tank for the first time in 20 years. Thanks to your advice and a few others my tank seems to be doing fine. No fish deaths yet anyways. LOL. As for the topic of attaching plants to rocks. THANKYOU!!!! I was getting so frustrated waking up or even walking away from the tank for a few hours to find my chinese algae eaters (lets not even broach that subject on a saleman that didnt warn me how big they'll get) had uprooted all my plants again. I used krazy glue the original stuff and it worked just fine. I can see the fish are doing fine as well and has made it so much easier to actually aquascape my tank. I'm going to wait and see how these do and then fill it out a little more if need be. Thanks again for the tip.

In reef tanks, using superglue to hold down corals is super common. Like, all the time. Any time we get asked "Will glue brand X work?" chances are the answer is yes, as long as it's gel. Worst case, you try it and it doesn't work so you reglue it. Also, in saltwater we put the wet glue in the water and it seems like it hardens faster. Thanks for the video!

Just an FYI if you look on the back of the package near the bottom on "most" super glue products, name brand or off brand it's all made by a company called "Henkel". Henkel is one of the largest producers and developers of cyanoacrylate and other types of glue. We use Henkel glue for manufacturing where I work. Even the cheap walmart brand says "Henkel Corporation".

Just wanted to pass on that I did this today with Loctite brand super glue gel control, and not only did it work, but it worked under water without needing to remove the hardscaping! I placed several Java ferns around a new tank and one of them didn't want to stay in place. So I pulled it out, did NOT dry it off, and put on a dab of Loctite gel control, plunged it underwater and stuck it right to the hardscape which was submerged the whole time. It stuck fast instantly!

If you use the loctite brand of super glue gel you can add the glue to the plant out of the water and then simply attach it to an existing piece of decor in your tank. This also works with coral frags. The glue is reef safe. I've also noticed this type of glue doesn't stick to your fingers as much.

Great video!! I really love the anubias! I just got one from you a few weeks ago and its awesome! My beta and Cory catfish love it! I'm going to glue mine to the natural slate stone I have in there.. I also have some Java fern tied on a rock with fishing line, but I don't like the way it looks.. I think I'm going to order another round of plants from you soon! Definitely another anubias.. what would you recommend for a 5 gallon.. I like the small grassy stuff you place in the substrate.. I'm not sure what its called lol. I'm so new at aquatic life so I need something easy and low maintenance, also that doesn't get too tall .. I like vertical plants and I could use a few, but they can't get too tall.. I never know what to go with because there are so many great varieties.. I'd love some suggestions if you or any, or if your subscribers have any.. I want the best for my new aquarium friends. Thanks in advance. Have an amazing day! I appreciate all the info in the video.

I've seen other videos that used Gorilla superglue, so I tried it and it works. But, it comes in a big (for superglue) bottle. The trouble with that is that superglue starts to harden once the bottle is opened. If you don't use up the whole bottle on the first project, by the time you go to use it again, the glue that was in the spout has hardened into a plug, and you have to poke a hole through the plug to use it again. The glue that comes in small tubes is more likely to be used up at once, so less waste. I like the idea of gluing plants to rocks for goldfish and African cichlids, because these guys just love to rearrange the substrate. Lots of South American cichlids are just as bad.
@jacklandismusic
@jacklandismusic 5 жыл бұрын
The cap of the glue comes with a little metal needle-thing to poke through. I only used about half a tube on my most recent project, and I was worried about it getting dried shut too. I just tested and found that a person is probably strong enough to unscrew it despite the glue, and the metal poker works just fine for keeping the hole unsealed.

i'm planning on doing this with various anubius' and a piece of driftwood but i have a question: if my plants arrive before my driftwood, how can i keep them safe and healthy until i get the piece? do i just plop them in the water (which is going thru a fishless cycle) and wait? and how necessary do you find fertilizers for anubias and the petite varieties? i've got very low light atm and i cant quite afford a proper light for the tank itself. i know they're low light but i was wondering if, in my current situation, i could also forego a fertilizer without worry.
