I adopted a betta from petsmart for free (they even had me sign adoption papers for him) and he had fin rot so bad, 95% of his caudal fin was gone :'( I used a combo of Betta Revive, Betta Fix, aquarium salt, and of course clean water. I saw new fin growth after 2 days! Now exactly 6 months and 3 days later, his tail is full again and he's thriving! He still has clear ends on his tail that haven't changed color yet and they may never change color, but he's still beautiful!

It's sad how many Betta fish are sold to people who don't know anything about keeping a fish happy and healthy, and who instead of taking care of the fish with a passion and a care for the fish's health, put it in solitary confinement until it dies of a disease that the owner didn't even bother to look up because to the owner, the fish wasn't alive, it was just a form of entertainment for them. But it makes me happy to know that there are people like you that will go out of their way to make sure their fish stays alive and happy. So, yeah.

@@laviniandradeg I have a betta with fin rot too. Ive got a bowl of 1 liter distilled water room temp and dosed that with about 1/3 teaspoon of aquarium salt. I pull the fish from the tank with a net and put it in the salt water for about an hour a day, then put it back in the original cleaned (no soap) tank. This seems to have stopped the rot from spreading, but the fish is still lethargic and doesn't eat. Breathing heavy. I do water changes of original tank, 50% daily. This medicine combo cured my bettas fin rot and after 4 days I started seeing regrowth with color amazing! I also have a planted tank with inverts and everyone was fine. The fish seemed mildly stressed but nothing out of the ordinary for medicating fish even people for that matter when we are sick. After 7 days fin growth is looking great so much more coloration in his fins now. Unfortunately one of my Cory’s jumped out of the tank due to lack of food I’m guessing because he was healthy before treatment. I’ve heard Cory has said that you can feed them maybe day 3 then day 5 so you don’t stress them to much while keeping waste down to a minimum still I did this and they were perfectly fine after haven’t lost another cory.

I just ordered Maracyn and Ich-X. 😔 I THOUGHT my Betta's fin rot was improving but I went on a Weekend trip, made sure the water was clean before I left, but when I came back his tail fin was worse! I think I've noticed Stage 1 of Fin Rot with my other Betta as well, but again, I can't figure out yhe source. The PH got real low because of Mopani Wood so I've removed that and the PH levels are back to normal so hopefully that helps! Also hoping this medication will help! I've tried salt baths, your guide to adding aquarium to his tank and unfortunately it hasn't shifted. I moved him to a hospital tank and it's been the same. I mean it seems to have slowed it down, but it's still deteriorating. This might sound dumb, but is fin melt the same as fin rot? The forums and articles I've read give no definitive answer. Getting hold of Kanaplex in the UK was tricky but where there's a will.. He's on his second dose and still showing signs of it progressing. I'm on top of water changes, using the API test kits daily. All my parameters are perfect. I've added tannin leaves, hammocks for him to rest and turned his light off. Nothing seems to be working. He's eating okay, but his poor tail and fins are getting shorter by the day. Does anyone have any advice? I'd really appreciate it, I just want to give him a fighting chance. Thanks in advance.

I have owned bettas for several years, done all the research on their care, and consider myself knowledgeable in fish husbandry, YET I seem to always have problems with keeping a betta’s fins as beautiful as I when I bought them! I use the API test kit, have live plants, no sharp objects, have a sponge filter and heater for each fish tank, and perform weekly water changes. I honestly don’t know what I can do differently. I’m pretty sure one fish bites his tail now and them, but usually the fins look like they are getting rot on both of my fish. I have used salt and Seachem Kanaplex with some success, but then the problem comes back. I guess my question before I redose these fish is should I dose the tanks they live in or put them in hospital tank? If I do hospital tank won’t the bacteria or fungus continue to live in the main tank and reinfect them? Please advise. The reason I love bettas so much is because of those fins, yet I can’t seem to keep the fins!!! Thank you 🐟

I’ve wondered the same thing. I wish I could help. Maybe someone in here can tell us. But from my understanding it seems that those bad bacteria that attack our fish when their immune systems are weakened live in every tank. And only attack when fish are stressed. So if you were to treat the main tank, you will kill absolutely all bacteria, not only the bad one but the beneficial. Correct me if I’m wrong… I do think quarantine tank should be better option.

I have the same problem. Perfect parameters, heated, sponge filter, live plants, no tank mates to nip fins. He's a Dumbo ear and his "ears", one particularly, are so ragged, I have no idea whats causing it. His tail fins are completely fine

My halfmoon betta was in quarantine in the past 2 weeks in a salt bath and his fins had started to improve and stopped 'rotting' but now it suddenly starts to rot again. He's not losing fins but they're starting to look ragged again.

Great info my friend, definitely could get why someone could be confused buy the feeding statement. But a steady environment wins.

My betta has such a bad habit of biting off his tail. I've tried adding toys, plants, betta bed, almond leaf and what not! I've added kuhli loaches today, if he's bored that should provide entertainment. Oh! And he makes bubble nests daily to pair with the self abuse -_-

Is the dosing in the video for a 5 gallon tank? Also, the maracyn I found/bought is a liquid, not in a packet, so I’m not sure the amount to use. Any help is appreciated, thank you so much!

Good morning! Can you tell me if the white spot on the edges of the two fins underneath the belly of my betta fish is something to worry about or it or is just the colors of the fish??

Do you follow the directions on the back of the box for the other 2 meds? Is it just the ICH-X that we don’t follow the directions?

I've been trying to treat for fin rot since last November, and literally nothing works. I keep her in a 5 gal tank, originally no tank mates, already had 3 large marimo moss balls in there, a large silk plant, and a hide. Since it started, I added snails and floating plants (the floating plants recently developed mold though and had to be discarded, I don't know why since I was careful to not get water on top of them). I also got Sulfaplex and have been adding it to the tank per the instructions as well as some almond leaves. Her fins are nearly gone and I've nearly lost all hope of saving her. I feel like it might actually have something to do with the tank itself, the Top Fin® Retreat Aquarium. Maybe the light that it came with is too strong, because that tank has just been one problem after another since I set her up last august. The last betta we kept in that tank also developed fin rot and ultimately died from it (my dad was taking care of that tank at the time and he honestly just sees them as more decoration than a pet so he wasn't the best about treating for it.) When I set up the tank in August she immediately had an outbreak of velvet, which I got under control in a matter of weeks. Then the algae started going nuts. I would do a water change once a week and it would just grow back 10 fold by the next week, which is when I got the snails and floating plants. Just before I got those new additions to the tank she started showing symptoms of fin rot, and like I said I'm just at the point where idk what to do.

Can Pimafix be used with the Erythromycin, instead of Ich-x if unavailable?

Hello Irene!!! What size is the plastic container you are using? I got the meds from your store just now and I want to get it before they arrive. I have not found any with the gallon measurements either... Did you mark it yourself? - Thanks in advance for your support! 😊 And thank you for your awesome videos!!!
