This tank just gets better and better...so many dimensions, so much texture, and I knew you would balance it out and tame the algae. 😘 But, where oh where, IS Nimrod? 👍💕👍

Thank you so much for that Nirate snail bit!!!!!! I've been a hobbyist for over a year and half and that one bit about their eggs and needing salt . . . no words can describe how grateful I am for the insight. I had no clue. I figured they were snail eggs but I didn't know the bit about the salt. I assumed I had ticking time bombs in my tanks. HAHAHA!!!

I prefer the lack of floating plants also , never really like the look of them all over the top. It should mature into a great looking tank,just remember to keep those stem plants in check mate. Looking forward to seeing what you have created for Nimrod. All the best as ever mate, Martin.

Looks great George! The fish are probably loving it.. Great choice of plants. Gonna be awesome when everything grows in. That pink crypt is really cool. I purchased a pot of crypt undulata red last year and split it between a few different tanks and it grows different in each. Grows green and brown in one tank. A really dark redish brown in another and bright purple/pink in my oldest tank with higher lighting. Crypts are by far my favorite plant. As always looking foward to the next video👍👍👍

Thanks for the follow up video, George! I've been fighting the exact same battle in my 90G planted. However, due to the sensitivity of some of my plants in there, I didn't want to do a total blackout of the tank or dump a bunch of chemicals in there that could hurt things worse. So, I've been doing a ton of water changes lately along with cutting back on my feeding regimine too. I also dose ferts regularly. So, of course the struggle is to try to not dial EVERYTHING back at the same time while also understanding what's going on in there AND trying to get it all in check with minimal casualities. I've cut my photo period down to 4 hours and am feeding less. After my latest 80% change, it's looking really good. Not completely gone. But, I see a LOT more new growth in my plants vs algae. So I'm winning! It's a slow process. I do have more faster growing plants at my disposal if need be but while that's likely my next plan of attack, I'm just waiting to see if I'm really going to need to do that. Waiting really is one of the hardest parts of this hobby. But the payoff is legit. All thanks to the internet and hobbyists like you! Keep up the great work on the 1200, man! Looking forward to the next update!!

Looking fantastic George, it's amazing how much an aquarium can transform with plant growth or added plants. Another great point is how you've dealt with the algae, too many times you see people pretty dump entire setups of plants due to this but you've shown what you need to do and what you can do to stop that. One thing, does it seem that the Pearl Gourami's aren't as bronze under those lights compared to the Kessils or is it something that doesn't come across in the video? Thanks for your continued inspiration and education mate :)

I love the addition of the stem plants. They've added lushness to the tank. Plus, you put in a pink crypt... a little bling just for me. LOL. My algae battle is not going as well as yours. Looking good George! Question on pest snails. Water quality is good, planted 90 gal cube, 10 months old with wood, and carpeted floor, many healthy plants and moss, limited feeding due to low stock, high lights, co2 and religious weekly water changes including vacuuming for detritus and wood decay as able. Amano shrimps a plenty, nerite snails and 20 ember tetras. I've spent weeks pulling pest snails from the viewing panels and removing all I can from the tank. Have tried the snail trap thing but the little critters are too small. Based on the stocking I can not think of anymore to do. Any suggestions...and yes sir, I'll keep on scaping. Really appreciate your videos.
@turnipsucks64165 жыл бұрын
Great information and video George. Had a "Q" for you. Do you know if the eggs produced/layed by the nerite snail are calcium based? If so will they simply dissolve in the tank if ignored and not removed over time?
@paulmasters86665 жыл бұрын
This tank is looking so beautiful, like really stunning and i love all of those fish too it's similar to my 4ft 120 gallon setup. One thing though you might change your mind about is those Nerite's they are really good algae eaters but the eggs will be on everything and they are really hard to get off completely it becomes a real pain, I only keep one Nerite in each of my tanks now because i'd rather brush some algae off rocks than try to scrape eggs they really put them in hard to reach places.

Thanks Paul. I guess I’ll learn the hard way if needed... 😊

Looks good! Perhaps more trimming maintenance and less minimalist than you intended but I think the textures, and variety you’ve added really works (look forward to seeing the pink panther grow in more!). Perhaps after a few months you could cut back on the fast growers and allow your original slow growers to recolonise. 👌

I soon learnt that my Twinstar 600 was too much light when ramped up to 100%. I found my tank is doing best at 50% light intensity and that's with Co2 and daily plant food. Anything over 50% and i have algae problems.
@akshaydewan5 жыл бұрын
Hey George. My guess is that the floating plants also had a part in throwing off the tank balance. They can use up nutrients really quickly and can out-compete the slower growing plants since they have access to all the CO2 that they want from the air. I'm curious about the nutrient levels in the setup when you had algae. Oh, and the new plant additions look beautiful! :)

Hello George - Looks much improved and I appreciate your showing how to deal with algae issues in an early tank naturally. This raises a question - I have had poor performance when setting up a large iwagumi tank with lots of soil, which was only remedied when I added some faster growing stem plants. Once there was a critical mass of plants, the algae then went away. Would it then be possible to remove some of the stems to get that minimalistic wabi-sabi carpet effect later with less risk of algae returning? I imagine once some of the nutrients in the soil have been metabolized, and the carpeting plants more thoroughly established, maybe this phased approach form heavy to minimalist planting could work. Is that an approach you’ve heard of or would recommend? My preference is for slow-growing plants, but I may need ot use some fast growing plants in the early stages of my scape. Advice?
