Good info but, honestly, i was expecting a bit more. If the video is meant for beginners you could have explained what products do you use on the exposition tanks, the mL, the frequency and why did you chose the ones you use. I know you guys use mainly ADA mineral and brighty K + excel daily but you havent explain where is the N and P coming from. Just fish waste (N) and fish food (P) in addition to the soil nutrition?.... and how much should one use per L and how to adjust it. what parameters to look for, for example what leads you to decide that extra iron is needed..... When you supplement iron or, for example, phosphates (to fight Green spot), how much are you adding per L, how often and for how long... the answer to these questions were the kind of info i was expecting... On a more advance level, what do you guys fell about PPS-pro and EI, etc... why you dont like those systems and prefer to use what you use. You could have explained why you limit N in the tank (to get the best red colours out plants? and limit growth and, therefore, tank maintenance?). Also, by not supplementing extra N, how do you reach the 20/30ppm you were mentioning, since all tanks have different plant mass and fish stock and will produce/consume different levels of N. How do you keep it steady at that level... maybe these questions would grant a part 2 video on this topic..😉Anyway, great video as always.

Another excellent video. Very helpful information and visuals. Wish there was a shops like yours in the U.S. Petco and Petsmart stores should not be selling 🐠 🐟 and other animals. The company and its staff seriously lack the knowledge and training needed as seen in your professional business staff and KZbin videos. Visited both stores over the weekend (Petco and Petsmart) and saw dead fish at the bottom of tanks or stuck to filters and the lights in the tanks were either broken or turned off. Plants 🌱 being sold in separate tanks were deteriorating, yellow or brown. When I ask staff questions about the fish or aquarium care products, the response is usually, “The guy who takes care of the fish and other animals is off today.” 😳 Thank you for sharing your videos with passionate aquarium hobbyist. Looking 👀 forward to seeing your next video.

Yesterday i then watched a video about inline reactor and better ways to dissolve CO2. I then moved my co2 today and put it right under the powerhead outlet, i can SAY IT WAS A SUCCESS coming back to my tank from work with all plants pearling like nobody's business . With the roots tabs i put in and liquid fert i dose hahaha i believe i am going to make a jungle

Why should we add nitrates when nitrates are already building up in the aquarium? Thanks.
@ThePlantedTankTV
@ThePlantedTankTV 5 жыл бұрын
If you are doing a 50% water change every week without dosing, your nitrates will possibly hit 0ppm. Which is bad for plants. Your plants are always absorbing nitrates and if you don't replenish them. Your plants will suffer. The 50% water change is meant to keep those nitrates from getting to high. ✌🙂🙏
@GreenAquaShop
@GreenAquaShop 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, thanks for your help and answering the question. I would also add that ADA ferts do not have any nitrates of phosphates so the ones that you get from the tank itself will be enough with that dosing regime - between the two mandatory water changes.

@GreenAquaShop 4 жыл бұрын
The reactor is always the best solution if you have a big tank and a strong filter underneath that can afford loosing some flow due to hooking that stuff onto the pressure side... You have 100% dissolve rate (save CO2), you have no bubbles visible in the tank to obstruct the view, and you have no tech in the tank.

@GreenAquaShop
@GreenAquaShop 5 жыл бұрын
I think dosing daily is a better idea, easier not to forget, steady levels, etc. With ferts like ADA for example, that are not very strong it would be a mistake to dose weekly. Thanks for your comment, it's great!

At 13:21, you talked about "remineralizing" the water when using an RO solution. From that, I have two questions: 1) What does that mean exactly? If we don't have access to the GH plus product, what is the alternative from SeaChem, ADA, etc? 2) What should we do if we don't have an RO system? Is using SeaChem Prime only enough to treat tap water? Thanks for your videos, they're amazing~
@GreenAquaShop
@GreenAquaShop 4 жыл бұрын
Seachem has a good product for that, I don't remember the name though, I'm at home in bed, tired to look for it. :) You'll find it. Seachem Prime is enough to treat tap water but if the water has nitrates or it is too hard, you might have problems. Cheers.

Thanks Balazs ! Your insight is greatly appreciated. It was interesting to see a different view on testing and Total Dissolved Solids (TDS). My biochemistry and molecular biology roots may have led me astray as I was counseled to do, watch, and record the numbers religiously. in addition, TDS said to be only for "trends" as it was a "combined value." There are constraints in associating with "techies" with aquariums. :) Your articulate and concise vlog put the topic in perspective. Hi @greenaqua. I setup a new 125L tank. However as i asked in some of my other comments in some of your othwr videos, i used seeds to start. Also i used fire extinguisher for my CO2. However, here is how i started- Substrate: Power Sand Basic, Amazonia ver2, Amazonia powder Used seeds, dry start method, by day 7 had a nice carpet, then used lava rocks and drift wood along with JBL white sand to create path in the front to the center back. Here are the problems, after filling with water, ammonia is at its highest. Im using tap water. However, my tap water does not have chlorine. TDS of my tap water is about 114. Its been 3 weeks and ive noticed white algae on the drift would, cloudy water, and the carpet plants beginning to go dark green and kind of melt. Ammonia is still very high and so are the nitrates and nitrites. Im dosing secham stability every day as prescribed on the bottle. What could be wrong? CO2 levels seem fine. Im also dosing secham - trace, flourish excel, and iron. Ph is around 6 - 6.5. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jXPaoop6iteWq7M

Holistic view my friend, holistic view. I told you in one of the previous videos, that you can send a novel to me and I still won't be able to answer your question. Here are some questions for you, but note that I'm still not going to be able to answer you. What is the water temperature? What is your filtration? Even though it has no chlorine and it is of a good TDS, your water seems to contain a lot of Nitrate. Your ph is too low. How much water you change? What is your lighting? Are you sure the CO2 levels are fine? Anyways you might answer these, but I won't be able to help too much, just start you in the right direction. Again: look at what you don't have, not at what you have. Cheers.

Thank you very much for this fantastic video. Very useful. There is only one topic that i do not understand. Usually we learn that KH is very important for its relationship with PH stability and the general rule is not to go below 3°. I do not understand how you manage this topic only by adding a GH plus. How do you take under control the Ph instability without adding any KH corrector? Thank you very much for your feedback.
@GreenAquaShop
@GreenAquaShop 4 жыл бұрын
Well Lorenzo, the key is not to think about it, and not to measure KH. Haha. On a more serious not, I think the RO water is buffered by the GH salts we add to it, so the KH is stabile enough.

@@GreenAquaShop thank you for you answer, but i suppose that KH should be 0 inside your RO water, isn't it? Sorry to bust you with my questions but i like to understand well the topics. :-)

Well, as I have never (really, never!) measured KH in any tanks or in the RO barrel, I have no idea. I stopped thinking scientifically about the hobby. Well, not really, but as far as water quality goes, as long as I don't have problems (algae, fish or shrimp health problems) I don't contemplate on it.

Oh, I'm not very good with knowing the ideal temperature for the different fish, but our colleague Lóri definitely would. And yes, there are plants that tolerate warmer water, we even have a category for that on our website under the plants section, check it out. And there are some that do not tolerate higher temps, all details we know of them is usually listed in their description.

It's interesting that various high level aquascapers give conflicting advice in regards to CO2 timing. Most often I have heard start 1 hour prior to lights on but here you say 2 hours and I have even heard in an ada tutorial they said to start at the same time as lights on so it's hard to know what is most accurate. Maybe the key is just to be consistent with it.
@GreenAquaShop
@GreenAquaShop Жыл бұрын
Well, CO2 levels need time to reach the proper levels for photosynthesis. When the light comes on, plants will immediately need it, so the biology says you should start the injection earlier.

In order to get 30ppm of CO2 with kH 1, your pH can get as low as 6. So a lime green drop checker with kh 1 means that you have less than 30ppm of CO2, right? Could you please clarify how are you able to control the CO2 levels using such a low kH? Great video by the way, wish you could upload every day 😁

Not if you don't see problems (filter bacteria will suffer below ph 6.4). TSD corresponds to GH, and KH is kinda "part" of GH so no need to test these two separately.

Amazing Video, as usual! I use seachem advanced+trace+iron to fertilize my tank, and it appears that there is no nitrates in that mix. I wonder if this could be a problem for the plant growth? My nitrates level is, as expected, 0 in my tank. Sometimes my plants look not as red/green as they should be, and I wonder if this nitrate issue couldn't be the source of the problem... Thanks!

@@GreenAquaShop Yeah I have heard my light may be too strong for a non-CO2 tank, hence I do get some brown like algae and this neon green hair algae here and there. GH is below 150 is ok, but more important is KH in water, because if KH is not stable your entire system will fluctuate,your KH should be 1 to 3 degree, not above that this is range for advance planted tank. If your KH not stable your PH will fluctuat dramatically. And that's the reason plants melts more offen.

Hi Green Aqua, i’m new to this hobby and this review is very informative. Question, which is better to use RO water or TAP water?
@troublingleaf
@troublingleaf 2 жыл бұрын
I'm not part of green aqua, just someone who watches their channel, bit I'll try to help. For what purpose? If it's for a drop checker you "NEED" 4DKH water, R/O or tap will not cut it. But if it's just for your tank water my advice is to test your tap water, and research your chosen fish species, you might be lucky and have "magic" tap water, but that is pretty rare. If your water parameters are less than ideal I personally would reccomend mixing R/O with tap water to get within the desired range, I'm picky, but I like to work out the ratio, this can quickly be figured out with a large measuring jug and some test strips or drops, start at 5% tap water and go from there. Or you could use a product like seachem equilibrium to remineralise the R/O, that way you dont need tap water at all. Usually I use rain water, and sometimes mixed R/O when I'm running low on rain water, but I would not recomend this if you live in an area with a lot of air polution (that includes traffic polution) as the rain will pick this up from the atmosphere and your fish will be swimming in it, not ideal.
