Aquatec Ottawa - Sandbanks Style Optimal - Puncture Hazard -
I've found a hazard/design flaw with the Aquatec Ottawa that might also apply to the Sandbanks Style Optimal. It's not a huge issue, but it could create a puncture or water leak if left unattended.

Iv'e recently bought a chelan 140 used it a lot on ulswater glenridding where its small gravel and found this gets traped under the floor and has to be rinsed out with the hose pipe. some of the small gravel seems quite sharp, just started kayaking at 71 years old Enjoying your channel.

Good spot Karl - could have been a disaster. Fixing punctures in those locations would have been difficult.

After digging through the internet and enjoying your videos I decided to get the tandem Aqautec Ottawa as our first kayak. We took it out today for the first time and when I was cleaning it this afternoon I also noticed that little hidden area. Definitely recommend deflating the floor first then wiping it down as part of the cleaning up step. If it gets really dirty you could clean it out with a compressor and air hose.

​@@MoreThanJustaCleanerJust been out on mine and the Sandybank Optimal doesn't appear to have that lip, and there were no stones or anything trapped, but you could still easily get grit and not realise.

I almost bought an Ottawa but decided on my NRS Pike. About the same price point, three times the protection and very easy to maintain. The lack of leg room put me off of the one you have, and I prefer made in America. Besides, it's rated for white water in extreme conditions. more of a boat with a real seat and footrests. I think you would like the folding fishing style seat with your back issues. And you can stand in the Pike.

Yep the same thing on my bluewave glider . Only I can’t lift the lip , its like a long tube and has to be hosed out , lots of little stones ,!!!!

In your opinion, regardless of budget, what top 3 kayaks would you get for using regularly on a canal? I live on Pennine Way Leeds/Liverpool Canal. Challenger is too unconformable and flimsy but bought cheap to make sure i like it. Now i have the bug lol

@@redcoat1355 that's easy, just one - Aquaglide Deschutes. It's nimble, simple to set up, easy to maintain, packs down relatively small, and it's lightweight which makes portaging all the locks on the canal easier.
