Missouri became a "sanctuary" on Saturday, and McClosekeys' plead guilty today, for basically standing with firearms on their own property, now they have a domestic violence ban under the guise of a assaults misdmeanor in order for the DA to drop the firearms felonies. They turned over the two guns but not the rest of the guns in the house. If real, a person probably wouldn't be able to use holdmyguns cause they state would probably come for the rest of them. Another aspect of AK that is often overlooked is that it's manual of arms for any type malfunction clearing is basically to unload and then reload the weapon. This action alone will clear 99% of any stoppage issue that you can muster. For M4 variants it's a different acronym for every sort of malfunction which is harder to learn under duress.

@jonahpatton88793 жыл бұрын
You should, I was an AK fanboy through and through, it was my first rifle 10 years ago, bought my first AR about 2 years ago. Not gonna lie, I wasn’t super impressed, it was a little lighter, recoiled slightly less (it was over gassed), all in all it was decent but I wouldn’t say better, especially considering how well tuned my AKs are. I started swapping steel parts with titanium to shave weight off (get a titanium muzzle brake, out front is where the weight savings mean the most) started swapping out buffers and springs. Next thing I knew, it barely recoiled more than a .22lr, and barely weighed more than a 1911 (slight exaggeration). I’m still more familiar with the AK platform, and I’d take an out-the-box AK over an out-the-box AR. But a well tuned AR will have you shooting like you never could with an AK.

@PenguinNoodleSoup Жыл бұрын
@@jonahpatton8879yeah an ar needs to be well tuned to feel great. Compared to my ar my Ak feels much better to shoot. Which is strange cause most people dog on the ergonomics of the Ak, I would probably like a short barreled AR in 300 blackout, way better. Cause my 16 inch ar felt a bit more awkward to hold and reload than the Ak which to me has a perfect centered weight distribution. Both are good platforms, ar is lighter with less recoil, though I don’t feel like I’d be at a severe disadvantage with the Ak.
@jonahpatton8879 Жыл бұрын
@@PenguinNoodleSoup my AK is still my go to rifle, but I won't be for long. I'm building two ARs right now that are definitely going to be my primary rifles. One is a 13.7 inch pinned and welded, the other is going to be a 16 inch with magnified optics, I'm really doing the most with these. You can only customize an AK so much, there is virtually no limit with ARs. That doesn't mean my AK is retiring, just taking a different seat, there are still some things it can do that an AR can't, but there are more things that a well tuned AR can do better than vice versa.

The advantage I see with the AR is with reloads. If you train to insert the mag and hit the mag release with your thumb it’s much faster than dropping an AK mag and then reaching under or over the rifle to chamber a round. I use both quite often and that’s the main advantage I see other than if you want to count mounting and aftermarket options for the AR. Stock to stock that’s pretty much it though.
@adammcallister9675 Жыл бұрын
I can do a basic tactical reload on an AK faster than most people can with an AR. Yes, YEARs of practice. Perfect technique. And there are videos of faster. There’s a pole @ 2 secs. IRL I trained for years to never let a mag go dry, so I always have a round in the chamber IF I need it and so I never need to rack the bolt. I have 5 ARs. 2 of them suck at free falling pmags. No one is getting me on a mag change. I also have a round in the chamber, barrel still on target and never lose my sight picture. Malfunctions is when I really get the AR man.

5:31-6:39 Speed drills with an audio timer basically instill training scars. They condition you to expect a beep, and often already have you well informed where your targets already are. So when you execute, you are just focused on going to those known targets as fast as possible. This often has you ignoring almost everything and just zoning straight in on the known targets. It's all rather like a grandly choreographed movie stunt, with rehearsals until you can pull off that one exact set of moves with that exact set of targets in that exact setting fast and smooth when the filming actually starts. (Hello, Mr. Wick.) But this isn't realistic for actual gunfights, at all. No matter how good military intel may be, the situation is never laid out for you on a silver platter like that. And this is even more true for the kinds of spontaneous operations that civilians may face, without any advance intel at all. In reality, there are lots of variables and lots of randomness. You will be surprised. You will be confronted with confusion and ambiguity, and you will have to take time to process and then make decisions on the fly. And despite the universal gun safety rule of muzzle awareness (don't point it at something you're not willing to destroy), speed drills that have you rushing straight to known targets and blasting basically have you cheat, by knowing exactly whom to be willing to destroy and whom to muzzle and shoot. They bypass the requirement for you to figure this out in the moment. And if you get used to bypassing that... So in a lot of ways those speed drills fail to train you realistically, therefore they fail to train you right. They teach you *trick shooting,* but not realistic violent incident shooting. This is also my biggest gripe about shooting competitions. Preset stages where you get to recon the exact layout beforehand is so fake. That completely deprives you of the critical task of assessing scenes and differentiating between targets and friendlies *in real time.*

I have tons of personal experience running full auto AR’s (m4’s) in 5.56/223 and so I’ve noticed over the years that their main reliability issue when mag dumping is failure to fire due to the firing pin not 100% engaging the primer fully. But funny enough the guns will continue to function flawlessly in semi auto but in full auto they will fire 2-3 round bursts before a malfunction. I consider this a weak point to consider if you’re going to use an ar-style weapon system as a full auto support system.

Active shooter scenarios in a school, office building or shopping mall would be tough I think. That kind of stuff should be drilled by CCW holders and LEOs on a continuous basis. That way when the bullets start flying and adrenaline kicks in the people with guns will be more effective and live longer by quickly identifying and focusing in on the threat.

before the video even starts i feel pretty confident in saying that for similar overall length weapons using similar capacity magazines a 5.56 AR will barely outperform a 7.62 ak due to recoil management being much easier for 5.56. I my case my siaga 308 win Russian rifle or my shotguns are not my primary go grab weapons. my Taurus pt 845 in 45 acp 12in magizine 1 in the barrel is a argument stopper . but I reload 45 super 185 gr xtp at 1260 FPS . limited use for self defense and hunting. I always prove all my weapons and ammunition, no exceptions, no excuses not to. this weapon is like it’s part me and very comfortable for me .but it’s not for everyone. I tell people when they finally get it , to master that weapon and help them out if I can. to buy the best made weapon they can afford. I never down play them and and lower them , if THATS the only thing you got you would be as well off with a rock. I own two hi point pistols . a9 mm and a45 acp that also shoots limited rounds of 45 super. what’s the difference to a dead man whether shot with my cz , smiths , Taurus, hi point? that would be like asking the question what is time to a hog . all my weapons must work on time, any time, every time with no exceptions. regardless of price. so we need to quit playing down those who can’t afford high dollar weapons because the anti gun groups love when that happens. gives them a little more gas to run on . I enjoyed the video. nana and papa aka the hunter wishing you well

At least in the US I think another advantage the AR would have in 5.56 is that because its so popular here you'd find someone that would most likely have some more so than the AK. Just like 9mm, 12 guage, and probably 308 would be common cartridges most people would have.

The resurgence of the AR-180 into the market lately, this time in Billet receiver form rather than stamped, and offering AR-15 barrel, magazine and accessory setups seems to be a great choice for those that would choose the AK over the AR-15 for CQB if only for the lack of a folding stock. The newly imagined AR-180's seem to address nearly everything that may have been seen as a weak point in the AR-15, while utilizing pretty much every AR-15 strength. I know that you (Reid) are a purist, but consider giving the pseudo-18 a try. It was re-introduced up in Canada as an unrestricted alternative to the EVIL AR-15 and seems to be gaining steam down south in the States lately as well. If you are wondering why the AR-180 is an accepted Unrestricted Rifle in Canada, where as the AR-15 is not, I can only assume that Canada doesn't trust it's citizens to own M-16 lowers and bolts without the temptation of messing with coat hanger sear setups....lol.... and at face value, it's too difficult to see if a lower is milled to accept one or not, along with the M-16 vs AR specific bolt. BAN them all they said (just in case). The AR-180 looks different on the outside, so no chance of any EVIL operating inside...LOL

Reid I want to know your thoughts on velocity. I have a 9 inch AR and have a gut feeling the full length barrel is crucial to both accuracy and damage. I don't recall this knowledge in your book but perhaps I missed it. When I shot at both 25 and 100 yards, my shots were 12 inches low compared to everyone else... Everyone told me it's a sight issue but I disagree. I need some justification to buy my next one given finance. Thank you sir!
@woodrowcall31583 жыл бұрын
12 inches low is a sight issue at 100 yards. What optic/irons are you using, and at what height?

@@woodrowcall3158 so check this out. I am an engineer and was just lazy and avoiding math, but here it is: Full size AR = 3100fps 9 inch AR = 2400fps Full size time to target (100yd) = 300/3100=.096 seconds. 9 inch AR = 300/2400= .125 Increased travel time = 0.03 seconds. Acceleration due to gravity downward is 32fpss*0.03s = 0.96 feet 🙂, it all lines up perfect. I need a new AR
@woodrowcall31583 жыл бұрын
@@MechInvent That data checks out only if you are zeroed at point blank range and your bullet speed stays constant from muzzle to 100 yards. Your absolute drop will more likely hit 12” around 200 yards assuming 2,400fps. The intersection of our sighting plane and the arc of the projectile should cross at two points if our sights are oriented on top of our weapon and we aren’t shooting upside down. If you are zeroed around 25 yards with a muzzle velocity of 2,400fps (and assuming vanilla 55gr FMJ) you should only be 3-4” -low- high at 100 yards. What caliber/load are you using and what range are you zeroed at? I agree you might want a longer barrel for practicality sake. Edit: high, not low.
@charliefoxtrot50013 жыл бұрын
At what distance is that 9-inch AR-15 pistol zeroed at? Did you even zero the rifle in the first place? If you are 12 inches low anywhere within 200 yards, then you are doing it wrong! If that 2,400 fps is correct, then you will be 12 inches low at 250 yards with a 100-yard zero. By the way, this has nothing to do with accuracy, which is the group size you are shooting.

When the dogs start barking at night, a Remington 870 with a weapon light is what I grab. So far it's just been a predator trying to get into the chicken coop. But, for low light use, I like the increased hit probability of a "scatter gun."

IMO the only handicap that an AK may offer in terms of speed may be reloading. It takes more training to be quick with a reload in the AK platform than an AR.
@mastodonxrp53143 жыл бұрын
True, but in a civilian gunfight where I am probably alone against one or more opponents, it is going to be a bad day. If I have to also reload, it is going to be a very very very bad day no matter if I have my AR, Glock or AK. Just saying that if 28 to 30 rounds isn't enough then the speed of your reloading isn't high on the list of problems.
