Fun fact, Hymmnos (the song language of the Ar Tonelico games) is an actual conlang. You could learn it (with some effort). The whole point of Hymmnos is not just to communicate words, but also to convey the emotion of the speaker. Which is why the dating sim style aspect of the first game is so important. The happier the singer is, the stronger the spell they sing.

Okay just another fact that you already likely noticed: The Ar Tonelico and Ar nosurge series have a very strong theme of renewal and more specifically of different people and groups coming together to renew and heal the world, there are also a few religious themes.

I agree a lot on context being needed for most music from the Ar Tonelico series, especially since the songs are essentially wishes and prayers sung in the moment in game. Though I think part of it for this particular song is that it is also essentially the third movement of the Sublimation piece. And funnily enough, the music for the final phase of the last boss, if I recall correctly. The first two are very dark pieces, one titled Lamenza (lament) about the death of the world, one chaotic translated as the Grand Festival of Release about punishment, judgment, and atonement, and this one about love and rebirth all of them sung by the final bosses. Doesn't change that context would really help here, but it would probably put it more into perspective if you heard it following the other two which come immediately before.

Imagine people going insane, then suddenly you find a cure to mass treat everyone, but someone fudged the formula a bit so you had to correct it a bit so the medicine goes down a bit better. This is that

Needing the context of the whole game, if not including the context of a whole past game is one of the things I heavily agree on. Especially for these songs of the EXA_PICO universe. One thing i also appreciate with the Hymnos songs are that they're literal conversations between two or more entities usually the singer and the song. Like imagine singing a song... but that song sings back to you, sometimes synchronized, sometimes you're happy but the song isn't. hell, sometimes the song will fight back against you. It's why some songs like Exec_Paja have totally different lyrics depending who sings it. Ar tonelico will always have a real place in my heart and mind. but i agree with you in that it's also hard to resonate with.... which also makes it hard to recommend to others as like a book with 14 pages of expositions as soon as you open it, Ar tonelico songs tend to overwhelm and put off others.

i would give anything to watch you do a reaction to XaaaCi. from ar tonelico 3. it's such a deeply terrifying, tragic song about the planet itself crying out in sadness and rage that its children are killing it and each other, so it resolves to kill all of humanity to put an end to the destruction they've caused. i don't know if it would fit the specific type of music you usually listen to here on your channel, but i wanted to bring it up because of how power a song it is, it drives me to tears every time i listen to it

this is the third part of the final boss :) the first two are VASTLY different to this song and are nothing but anger to a last ditch effort to get what the last boss wants in this song itself, which is desperation. probably my most favoured boss theme in a game. the lead up, the background, and then even without knowing what they're saying you just FEEL something... and then you find translations and get punched in the heart. it is the Endsinger boss, essentially, and i won't spoiler it just in case you ever play it or watch a playthrough, but it's honestly beautiful.

I wonder what Marco's actual reaction to the whole Sublimation Project would be (ówò Ar Tonelico music is crafted specifically for the characters and the story since they're messages, so yes, context is needed. Also a fun little thing is when the song says "for the sake of *love*" it could also mean for the sake of the singer: Infel, her name means love. I personally think it would be fun if Marco would react to "Utau Oka ~Ar=Ciel Ar=Dor~" ✨ A lot of people forget about that album...

I love the more shamanic sounding dialects of ar tonelico. It reminds me a ton of Buddhist sutra chanting, and we all know that sutras are recited in order to clear the mind and reach a higher level of existence and enlightenment The same with the more Gregorian and orthodox sounding singing of their songs It just makes so much sense that most of the dialects on Ar Tonelico are inspired by languages that are meant to bridge man to the gods, considering Revateils are basically Shrine Maidens singing magic commands to their sacred ancient Wi-fi towers

There's a couple of genres of games you haven't really tapped into yet that have pretty well-liked, iconic soundtracks. I'll begin with racing games. Sure, most racing games made after like 2010 have licensed music, but between the old Gran Turismo games, and the Sega GT games, from the era where you had a different track for every screen so there's tracks called like "options" and "race setup" and "race statistics" or even different tracks for every car dealer , Outrun, Need for Speed, Midtown Madness, Nitronic Rush, Distance, Metropolis Street Racer, Burnout 1-2, the Tokyo Xtreme Racer/Shutokou Battle series, Daytona USA, Sega Rally, Flatout, Wipeout, F-Zero... I could go on and on. I think you could also delve a little deeper into FPS games. Across your channel I've seen stuff like COD, Halo and a few valve games sprinkled here and there but I've always had a soft spot for Crysis' soundtrack. VR games also come to mind. I think you'd really appreciate stuff like the Boneworks soundtrack. Finally, I think VNs are also very unexplored, even though they often share composers with other video game soundtrack. Steins;Gate and Fate/Stay Night (who doesn't love Emiya?) come to mind as games with amazing soundtracks but that's just two, someone more well-versed than me can certainly name a few with legendary status soundtracks.

I haven't found any Splatoon music on your channel. You should definitely react to them since they are high quality and also have vocals but with a fictional language. The music in Splatoon is very experimental, amazing, unique and creative. These here are some of my favourites I recommend. So if you want and also have the time you can check some out. Would be really cool to know your view on them. 😃 Calamari Inkantation Ink me up Ebb and Flow Seasource Pour it on Short Order Maritime Memory Til Depth Do Us Part Big Betrayal Full version Underwater Neon Hide and Sleek Dual Mix #47 onward Anarchy Rainbow Daybreaker Anthem Suffer No Fools Nasty Majesty Entropical Acid Hues

Hey Marco, sorry for the unrelated comment but Fromsoftware just dropped another banger for the DLC. It's major spoilers and it just released so I'll put it in the "read more" of this comment. It would seem to be the uncontested best track in the game now. Elden Ring Lord of the Frenzied Flame theme. I also recommend listening to the frenzied merchant's song for context I think it's on KZbin.

A few fun facts: EXEC_over.METHOD_SUBLIMATION is actually the final bosses (yes there are two of them) final themes they sing it during the battle. This boss has three phases and each has a different song, these correspond to the emotinal states the singers went though to get to the state the are. The three songs are: lamenza (Laments) -> this one signifies sadness (it's in the name), but there is also a feeling on increasing anger in this one ee wassa sos yehar (The Grand Festival of Release) -> this one is the anger after the sadness, I swear the first lines make me feel like the singer wants to tear somebody apart with nothing be her hands omness chs ciel sos infel (Sadness will Become a World for the sake of Love/Infel) -> this is the one you reviewed. It's an interesting set of songs which I think contrasts well with EXEC_with_METHOD_METAFALICA which is the song that the singers should have song but failed to do so (not the with instead of over in the name, that is important). Another one which I also like to compare this ones, especially the second is with METHOD_REPLEKIA/. which also starts with the singer furioso but she finds peace in the second part. And before you ask, yes the upper case letters, _, . and other code like symbols are part of the names, the songs are mostly in hymmnos a constructed language for the game which was made for the game, it's a mixture of Japanese, Latin and bash programming, that's why some of the translated lyrics come across as almost gibberish. To make maters worse there are two dialects of hymmnos, so yeah translations are hard. Easy way to know which dialect is being used, one's music allways start with EXEC_ the other's with METHOD_ Final fun fact Ar nosurge happens in the same universe as Ar Tonelico, but in a distant planet (well colony ship, the planet is only created when they sing Ra Ciel Reincarnation) they made yet another constructed language for that game.
