I love these fun, yet also effective relaxing Arab Dad videos Hello to Larry the Cat Also, if it matters to anyone: Little golden books used to have a gold background behind the blackish lines on the "spine/back/binding" ( I can see where it should be on your book, but, it looks kinda tan to me now). *edit: either way, you did see it later on😀. And, yes, they all were close to that sort of quality, in my memory. Still, as others have said,...* When the [books] were all in a row on the shelf, in the old days when the bound part had a gold background, they were really pretty.

Arab dad is from Lebanon, and Rudy is a fairly common name there (AFAIK); when I was growing up in the Middle East, there was a boy called Rudy who sat in front of me on the school bus. He was from the Lebanese Christian community too, like Arab dad.

@@seoul_searcher Interesting. Yeah, names aren’t restricted to singular places, but I think the combo of the two names in contrast to everything else is interesting lol. It’s like a stereotypical Colombian guy whose name is Yohan or something lol! Yohan is used in Colombia albeit spelled differently but it’s used. Interestingly enough Colombia actually has a Lebanese population but again you wouldn’t see it as a common “Colombian” name. I’m Colombian so that’s why I used that example lol.

The trick to good ASMR is not just the sounds, but the level of thought that is going into creating the sound. Try doing things that have an apparent/obvious complexity involved. With less focus on making sounds and more trying to sound focused. For example, you could narrate yourself through the process of making or editing videos, or music lesson, etc. Something subtle and less directed at the viewer and more towards a particular task. It will make for more effective asmr content. (You putting lots of thought in consequently makes the viewer feel more comfortable putting no thought in. Which results in relaxation)
@seoul_searcher
@seoul_searcher 5 ай бұрын
I agree with the latter part in brackets (when we don't have to put in any thought, we can relax - like zoning out I guess), but I'm trying to understand the part above that. Did you mean that someone explaining technical work will relax us?
@nunber123
@nunber123 5 ай бұрын
@@seoul_searcher it's basically any type of sensory input that does not necessitate any sort of reaction/ response. So any audio, visual, physical, etc., sensations that you do not need to think on or react to. The less your environment compels you to think, act, or focus, the more comfortable it is. By focusing on the inputs that you don't need to react to, you are taking your focus away from things you do need to react to. And essentially making your environment feel more comfortable. When you know or trust that someone else is putting a lot of thought into something, you feel more confident about not having to put any thought in yourself. So when observing people put a lot of focus into something and we focus on the sounds or feelings that result from those inputs, we can use it to pull away from the inputs in our environment (thoughts, sounds, feelings, etc.) that are not comfortable. Thus increasing our comfort levels. For example, the tailor/measurement taking type of asmr. Where you don't need to do anything because the tailor is putting in all the thought and effort. You do not need to think or react in any way to what the tailor is doing. Whether the tailor is actively narrating, whether you just here the sounds of the equipment, or whether you just feel the tailor taking your measurements. It would all have the same effect as long as we shift our focus towards the inputs that do not require any reaction/output. Another way to think about it is from a biological perspective where the mother takes care of the baby. The baby is in a purely comfortable position when it is getting lots of input from the mother moving around, working, seeing to and nurturing the baby, etc. With the baby not needing to react or do anything at all and can just lay there with the whole world working around it.
@seoul_searcher
@seoul_searcher 5 ай бұрын
@@nunber123 Thanks very much for that. 😊 So in other words, when we receive sensory input from the environment (and it indicates safety), this displaces our need to be in control of said environment, did I understand correctly? If so, I can relate to that. For example, if we perceive a tailor or barber or chauffeur as capable - we feel safe, it allows us to switch off from monitoring them to simply observing them neutrally, and then we relax. (*Exceptions apply - must make sure the barber is not Sweeney Todd 😁) I remember when my mum was pottering about the house, I felt very relaxed, coz I knew everything was in capable hands. So, capability is an important consideration too, imo. Also, the sensory input that accompanied that knowledge - like sounds from the kitchen, or the aroma of food, reinforced the sense of relaxation. However, I think what really underpinned it all was my sense of safety with her, like I knew I didn't have to do any work to earn love. Perhaps love is an extension of someone's capability too. (I think you touch on the idea of feeling safe in the example of the baby.) Perhaps there are different styles of sleep ASMR - I haven't checked, but to me, Arab dad's style of sleep ASMR relies strongly on imagination, which probably works better for people who daydream a lot, and love stories, like myself. Also, I think his voice has the calming effect that simulates a sense of safety for most people. The Zen-like background music also helps - I find it calms my anxiety, and I like Buddhist temples. Next if I study the Arab dad character - he has mystique, so the brain fills in a lot of gaps - i.e., he can be whatever people want him to be. He also sounds capable, because he makes sense and doesn't rely on clichés. Also, the story he reads is easy on the brain - it needs minimal processing (e.g., flows easily, no jargon - he explained words such as Yankees and Dodgers to non-U.S. audiences), and lastly, for those who like to keep their eyes open, there is a calming aura in the room. Oh, there's Larry too. It's very relaxing for me to see a cat. 🐱 Thank you again for your thoughts. 😊
