Someone said when they see writing like that of Sartre's, this quote by Nietzsche sums it up (and I do agree): "Those who know that they are profound strive for clarity. Those who would like to seem profound to the crowd strive for obscurity. For the crowd believes that if it cannot see to the bottom of something it must be profound."

Habibi can you read a book about not caring about others opinions and becoming motivated and confident in one's self? I know there are many videos out there about that but I need the tough love from Arab dad to get me back on track! I might end up falling asleep while listening but maybe it will be subliminal messages while I'm sleeping that will make me feel better :) Listening to habibi spice talking always puts me in a better mood

Don’t worry. It’s rather niche. I’ve read this kind of stuff as a German philology major back in the day. That said, you had to learn about existentialism as if your life depends on it, and prepare to understand it by reading a lot of other literature before or along with it🥵

I dunno Arab dad's story, but I got divorced nearly a decade ago, and healing from the trauma (especially if there's been injustice and abuse), is a process that can take a long time; in other words, it can still feel fresh regardless of time. As someone said, "time doesn't heal; perspective does". Perhaps the jabs are how Arab dad feels he's finding his voice again, after being silenced for a long time.

Was it Jean Paul Sartre the one who said "Hell, it's other people." I don't believe in hell, Islanic or Christian, but I do believe in this, that others around you make you experience hell. Like Arab Dad's ex wife. 😉😁 🧙
@seoul_searcher
@seoul_searcher 2 ай бұрын
Yes, he said it 😊 - I like quotes and I remember that one. What an interesting concept hell is. I totally agree that hell is a state of mind, but I also see that it can come 'bundled' with something external - like being in warzones, jails, slaughterhouses, famines, corporate offices and definitely toxic marriages. So yeah, I think it's redundant to operate a dedicated hell when we have it all going on Earth. Plus we don't even have to die to get there!

8:40 “The Australian primitive”…Holy sh!t 😮 Sign of the times nearly 80 years ago. Australia's first people or Aboriginal Australians have the oldest living culture, dating back 65,000 years. White Australia has a black history.

I know right - I had the same reaction. 😢 Glad you shared that extra info about the history of this land. There is still a lot of trauma that the aboriginal people in both Australia and Canada are dealing with, including physical illnesses they never previously had.
@NativeNiches
@NativeNiches 2 ай бұрын
@@seoul_searcher More older Australians need to know about our history, not the white-washed version that was taught at school in the 90's and earlier. At uni recently, I learnt about their connection to Country and the care they afford the land and its animals. They have a deep, intrinsic connection to both. Why we aren't looking after the land the way they have for thousands of years is beyond me.
@seoul_searcher
@seoul_searcher 2 ай бұрын
@@NativeNiches OMG tell me about it. I also read about the "White Australia" policy when I was studying psychology at uni, and there was a picture in our textbook of aboriginal men with chains around their neck, hands and legs. 😢 Each man was chained to the next person as well. I'm literally in tears now as I recollect that picture coz of the abuse of power and the lack of empathy. There was another article in the book around how non-white aspiring migrants were forced to jump through hoops like doing English dictation tests when they weren't fluent in the language. That was all by design.

Sartre's work is serious philosophy, not this self-helpy pseudoscience that gets sold as psychology nowadays. Some ideas are too complex to be put into overly simplistic words.
@seoul_searcher
@seoul_searcher 2 ай бұрын
@@suranumitu7734 I value clarity over unnecessary complexity. It is easy to make something overly complex or convoluted so that it's painful to understand (or makes a niche group feel superior); alternatively, it's also easy to oversimplify a matter to the point that it has lost all nuance and depth! However it takes a truly great mind to communicate depth with clarity, and Sartre isn't attempting to go that route. If you like Sartre, then this video will make you happy, but try to not be presumptuous about people who have differing viewpoints.

You could not be more wrong, daddio. Animals have consciousness and sentience. They are perfectly well aware of the past and the future. It would after all be very poor evolution to not have given them those concepts. It’s clear that they remember things in great detail and also plan, so I don’t know how you can think otherwise. They just seem to have much less abstract thought than humans. Shame on you for misrepresenting Larry’s sentience, habibi.
@seoul_searcher
@seoul_searcher 2 ай бұрын
You're absolutely right about the animals, but perhaps there's been a misunderstanding about Arab dad - he is actually vegan for the animals, and loves Larry as a little individual. I can tell his love and respect for Larry is sincere by the way Larry reciprocates. ❤ Over the years, I've been able to read people by the way they touch an animal, how the animal looks back at them, and how relaxed the animal is around them. All boxes ticked for Arab dad - he loves Larry from the bottom of his heart.
@poniesrus1
@poniesrus1 24 күн бұрын
I disagree that we aren't animals, we are just different animals. Cats, dogs, horses all communicate. Just because humans don't understand their language doesn't mean they don't "talk". We may be more advanced in some specific ways that are important to us, but we are gravely lacking in other ways compared to them. We are morons when it comes to sense of smell, for example, or hearing, listening. The fact that our pets understand far more of our words than we do theirs is an example of why they shouldn't be underestimated.
