They had government, administration and a fair amount of industrial autonomy. There you are: the exact meaning and how it operated in SA. Itcwas called separate development which is what the Palestinians want

From B'Tselem website: Citizenship - Jews living anywhere in the world, their children and grandchildren - and their spouses - are entitled to Israeli citizenship. In contrast, Palestinians cannot immigrate to Israeli-controlled areas, even if they, their parents or their grandparents were born and lived there. Israel makes it difficult for Palestinians who live in one of the units it controls to obtain status in another, and has enacted legislation that prohibits granting Palestinians who marry Israelis status within the Green Line. Freedom of movement - Israeli citizens enjoy freedom of movement in the entire area controlled by Israel (with the exception of the Gaza Strip) and may enter and leave the country freely. Palestinian subjects, on the other hand, require a special Israeli-issued permit to travel between the units (and sometimes inside them), and exit abroad also requires Israeli approval. Political participation - Palestinian citizens of Israel may vote and run for office, but leading politicians consistently undermine the legitimacy of Palestinian political representatives. The roughly five million Palestinians who live in the Occupied Territories, including East Jerusalem, cannot participate in the political system that governs their lives and determines their future. They are denied other political rights as well, including freedom of speech and association. www.btselem.org/apartheid

May not be in this terms properly but what about control, ocupation, how israeli goverment does not allow free coming and going even inside palestinian territory by palestinians, for instance. From Gaza to Cisjordania Israel controls palestinians. Israel controls who goes to Gaza and Cisjordania. They have no right to do that. It would be similar Argentina goverment controls who goes to Uruguai. Palestinian refugees can not go back to Gaza or Cisjordania because of Israel. There are many points. Israel arrests palestinians for many years with no proper trial. Thera are many ways Israel is an oppressor for palestinians.

Ok my comment is still relevant. You go on Israeli campuses, there are Arab students. The biggest problem obstacle is forgoing military service which for many years since Arabs and prior to new legislation religious Jews did not need to enlist, they had issues getting certain scholarships. Another issue is that most Israeli schools require a certain level of Hebrew language level that many Arab students did not have. This was discrimination, but not a constitutional system of apartheid. Many groups exist to bridge these gaps, however it would require working alongside Jews and Arabs rather than continuing to self-victimize.

We are exempt from certain laws that apply to Muslims such as no eating in public during Ramadan and the ban on purchasing alcohol (although this is more a symbolic law as Muslims can easily purchase alcohol here). The jizya tax has been abolished for over a hundred years. Most of us are rather privileged as we tend to be highly educated with generational wealth and dual or triple citizenships. The only other Muslim-majority countries with "substantial" Jewish populations are all non-Arab: Azerbaijan and Turkey, with around 15k-20k each, but those are secular states, and then Iran, whose Muslims can attest to the oppression Islamic regime. The Jewish expats I know working in the Gulf tend to like it there and have no issues. As for the actual Arab states of Syria, Iraq, Egypt, Yemen, and Libya, not many Jews left to speak of.

Just FYI, in Israel, the responsabilty of building parks, and municipal infrastructure, is on the municipal level (meaning the municipal athority is the responsible). All towns and vilages - Arabs and Jews - get the same budget from the govrenment according to their population size. The rest of their income is from municipal taxes (ARNONA), local parking fees etc.. The difference comes because there's a lot of crime and corruption in the Arab communities, and not enough that dares to testify against the criminals. So the funds the local athourites get to improve their lifes, is either embazeled or payed as "protection" money to crime organizations.. The police make important arrests almost daily, but they get released after 48 hrs by the court because of lack of witnesses..

Ask a black person in south Africa 50 years ago "do you live in apartheid?" and he'll have a quick list to give you. Here, you talk to Arabs literally while they sit freely in a mall, walk in a street inside a mixed city, work, own land etc.. There are a lot of issues that most Jews would agree we need to fix. Regarding the housing issue it's the same for all. My great-great parent bought land 50 years ago and it's still locked for "agriculture only". It requires a lot of approvals and procedures that take years and a lot of money to get approval to build on the land. As Israel has limited space, mostly you get approvals for highrise so mostly you will need to find a developer that would like to buy the land from you and the surrounding land to build a building and then you get an apartment out of it. Buying land to build a private house is very expensive.

Article 2(a) of the Citizenship Law: “Every emigrant under the Law of Return will become a citizen of Israel as a direct result of the return.” However the law doesn't apply to Palestinians: Article 3 of the law also deprives Palestinians who were residents of Palestine prior to 1948 of the right to gain citizenship or residence status in Israel based on conditions designed to deprive the Palestinian refugees of the Right to Return.

Just because one side does harm does not give the other side a blank check to do the same.

You are missing the subtle point. In Israel the Jews in particular, but also Christians and Muslims refuse to sell land or do business outside of their groups. So if a Muslim wants to live somewhere where the Jews or Christians own everything, they wont be allowed because they discriminate to avoid giving resources to other groups. They all do it, its a toxic effect because of what the Jews have done in Israel historically. In the end the Jews have all the levers of power, military and financial in Israel so they are the main offender, but they all do it and it makes life hard for non-jews in particular

Whenever I add the question whether if Israel and the Palestinian Authorities came to a peace agreement whereby their city or village could become part of a palestinian state , not one - not even one - has ever said they would agree to that. That's when they cling to their Israeli ID card. I look forward to the day when there is no more Arab terror, that is the only reason Arabs are held up at airport etc. As 80 percent of the population is Jewish and no Jew has ever blown up a bus or plane, it would mean we would all have to arrive not three hours before our flights but ten! Security is for all our good. The HamasISIS nazis did not differentiate between Jews and Arabs as they murdered everyone they could on 7.10.23.

In my city, we have pools, children parks, libraries, more policemen, nice rural roads etc. In the city few miles from us, they don't have much recreational facilities, less policemen, lots of holes in rural roads. Etc It depends on the amount of municipal taxes you pay. We pay double while in the next city, people pay less taxes, they get less services. Some services are the same quality for all the province (health system, water and electricity facilities) Inadequate police services are common in each country, it doesn't depend on your race. I don't blame them because I wouldn't want to do their job. Examples: (1) We were robbed in Mexico, we tough we would get help because there were policemen in each street corner. But NO, we didn't, even if we showed them the location where the stolen phone was. (2) In our own country, we showed them the location of the stolen car, no immediate help because stolen cars are not FIRST priority. We had to "steel" it back.

To be specific, Israel practices apartheid over both Israeli non-Jews and PRIMARILY Palestinians in the Occupied West Bank. Palestinians in the West Bank live under the PA to the extent of minor civil authority. The actual authority over the west bank which controls trade, construction, utilities, travel, freedom of movement, and “security” is Israel. Not necessarily. DO they also choose to live in same tight community? like a high rise perhaps vs buying house that maybe they cannot afford? @fadius17

@@xaspirate8060 I understand what you are saying but there are municipal laws that allow jewish communities to reject residency applications from arabs for no other reason. Since the creation of the state of Israel, it has been a policy to restrict land ownership to arabs. This is why the vast majority of land is state owned and owned by jewish funds and arabs are not allowed to own this land. They can have residency rights but not ownership rights if that makes sense. They can essentially be tenants of the state. In 1947-48, the jewish militias had a premeditated policy of ethnically cleansing surrounding towns and villages, and either pushing them out to neighboring countries or, like the 150k that stayed and are now citizens, to push the into the couple cities that were not expelled like Nazareth in the Galilee. Hence the density and lack of adequate infrastructure.. This is also why Israel has declared that ONLY jews have the right to self determination in Israel. As Netanyahu declared: "Israel is not a state for all its citizens." I still do not considered there to be an apartheid system within Israel, but just discrimination. However, it cannot be disputed that there is one in the west bank. And a severe one in that.

If crimes happen, usually is because many in the neighborhood don't want to go to police to testify, which also happens in my country, which leads to the criminal no being caught or held in prison. One good thing about this interview, is that apparently everyone can go to university, in many countries the rich gets the priority, and also from the majority interviewed all israeli-arabs could find a job in Israel. When Amnesty International and other relevant international organizations talk about apartheid, they are specifically referring to the West Bank, where a military and judicial system is implemented to control Palestinians and keep them in their "authorized zones." A Palestinian there has to be careful about where they go, as they might be harassed by settlers or taken to court. NB: Israel controls the westbank and is implementing a race and nationality based system of segregation and persecution so it qualifies as an apertheid regardless of wether the westbank in legally an israeli territory or not. I invite anyone interested in the apartheid of the West Bank (even if they refuse to see it as apartheid) to check Amnesty International's report on the matter. The soldiers practically exist solely to protect settlers, and assaults and bullying by settlers are often tolerated. What is happening to Israeli Arabs does not qualify as apartheid, and no relevant international group claims that. Misrepresenting the accusation of apartheid that Israel receives as an Israeli Arab vs. non-Arab Israeli issue is hurting the cause and obscuring the actual harassment that most of the West Bank's Palestinians live through.

Gee, I wonder why they would question Palestinians more before boarding planes? But it's not just Palestinians. I'm from the southern U.S., and I got pulled out of line at the Tel Aviv airport and questioned heavily. I had never been interrogated before, but that was pretty much an interrogation. I have no idea why they picked me, and it was like they were looking for ways to trip me up. That's just Israeli security. They take it very, very seriously.

But they will let you go thru with a bottle of water! And if you ask if you need to toss it, they'll say, "Why? Don't be silly, it's just water!" But, otherwise, yes! It is called security, and we take it very, very seriously (Don't you want them to??)! Coming or going, they will pull you out of the line if you are not Jewish, or don't look the part, and ask additional questions. Nowadays, they know the entire story of every passenger before the plane even lands, or everyone gets to the airport to depart home! After 9/11, I saw an interview on Meet the Press or 60 Minutes or something, and it was with the Head of Israeli Sec at the time, and they were discussing stereotyping, so to speak. He said, "If everyone was reporting a criminal on the run who was a 5 ft female who had blond hair and blue eyes, would you be out looking for a 6ft black man?? Obv, that sounds crazy, right? And yet, almost 25 years older, we still do things the same way. And Israel still does it better! (BUT for the literally countless times I have been there, they still question me when we leave! It's nothing personal!)

Just visit hospitals in Israel and see how many arab doctors are there. By the way, for a Jew it is much harder to get in to university then for an arab. the qualifications are completely different and not for the benefit of the Jew. 😂😂😂 It doesn’t matter how many Arab doctors there are… don’t break your back doing all this mental gymnastics Israel is objectively an apartheid state. Anyone disagreeing with that is either ignorant or purposely lying. Palestinians in the West Bank live under the PA to the extent of minor civil authority. The actual authority over the west bank which controls trade, construction, utilities, travel, freedom of movement, and “security” is Israel. One authority, two systems for different areas = apartheid. It’s as simple as that.
