Arabian Horse Hunter Pleasure Championship

This video shows Class 833 for purebred Arabian horses in the Region 7 Arabian Hunter Pleasure Championship AATR (adult amateurs to ride).
The Arabian Horse Association (AHA) Region 7 horse show is held at Westworld in Scottsdale, Arizona, and features top quality Arabian horses from the region that includes Arizona, Nevada, and Utah. This championship class features the best of the best in this show for the hunter pleasure competitors.

She deliberately held back the one bay that was delayed into going into the gallop with the other two horses to give them more room and allow the judges to see her transition into the new gait. That was good judgment on her part. My picks were the Chesnut with diagonal socks with the rider in a royal blue jacket, the grey with the rider in the royal blue jacket, and it was hard to decide for the bays, the one rider with the brown jacket was leaning forward too far in all the gaits making the ride look unpolished and uncoordinated with her horses' gait, but I finally went with the bay with the rider in the hunter green jacket. I picked the same two to win. I know very little about Arab pleasure, but picked based on my dressage experience. The grey haired woman in green, on the bay, rode very nicely which allowed her horse to use its back and hind end more than the others. Most weren’t truly engaged and through, but just had headsets. The brown jacket lady’s horse wasn’t using itself as well as the top place horse, but was very rhythmical and steady and had nice movement.

As someone who's ridden hunter pleasure on a warmblood and a thoroughbred, I can't choose because Arabian huntseat pleasure is ridden with the horses very collected and tucked, a much different manner in which other breeds are ridden in this class. I'm just here to enjoy how pretty and shiny they all are.

Personally, I think it's the way they're built. Arabians' necks are set very upright, so they, like Friesians, always look like that when they're collected....

A lot of these horses' necks are "broke" at the 5th vertebrae., Which is from a headset. Proper head carriage should never be behind the vertical. If they were balanced and through their heads would be closer to vertical, and they wouldn't be breaking at the 5th vertebrae. That being said it's I love the breed, and when ridden properly they have limitless potential!

I couldn't choose the champion or the reserve champion, but I had the grey and the champion in my top 5 🐎🏆 So nice to see the horses on a single rein and with smaller bits 😁 👍

I did not pick the winner this time but I always enjoy watching the horses. I liked the dark bay whose rider was in the blue jacket and the chestnut whose rider also had a blue jacket.

I had a lot of trouble focusing on the horses because the riders' equitation was so lacking I couldn't take my eyes off the riders. It is clear that the riders have not spent a lot of time working on English Equitation. Their posting needs a lot of improvement and looks like they practiced in a Western saddle.

@@MagnificentHorses Posting is not moving up and down, it is rocking/brushing forward and back. The heels should absorb the upward motion and the fact that so few have their heels down tells me they are not using them correctly. I would encourage rider to take their horses to a hunter/jumper trainer in their area for equitation lessons. These riders are posting like a cowboy would in a western saddle to avoid the horn and pummel. An exercise to see if you have the rocking motion is to post while the horse cancers (not a lope). You see international Gran Prix show jumpers do this often before they start the course. It helps the horse and rider find their rhythm and creates a smooth exhibit.

how does one apply to compete in this division of arab hunter pleasure? I am an old school competitor, but it has been some years for me. Yet, I have a daughter who is learning with her own arabian now. She is a very determined and diligent horse. Great dressage skills. This would be a perfect area for the two of them.

If you want to come all the way down to Arizona, a big national Arabian horse show is the Scottsdale show in February and they have a lot of youth classes. You can Google it for more information if that one is a possibility for you.

No extensions. Not allowed in Arabians. My horse has a tail that is 2 feet on the ground. We put lots of effort into maintaining manes and tails.
