When considering horses in nature, like wild mustangs, they manage to give birth unassisted and have been doing it for many centuries. And when a horse gives birth to her foal, the first few moments together imprint smells that make a strong bond between mother and foal. We believe that humans should not be interfering too much during this precious and important moment unless it is really medically urgent and necessary to assist, and with this case, the mare did a great job on her own, and both mare and foal are healthy and happy. We were lucky that this is a situation where we could watch supportingly and lovingly from the sideline, but do support and understand situations that you need to help the mare due to medical urgencies, such as we did in this video: To pull or not to pull | Horse giving birth videos kzbin.info/www/bejne/hJy2nZKNjcqrosk

When I was a young girl I rode my bike everyday to a local horse farm.( Mind you the last mile was all uphill) It was a Thoroughbred farm with racehorses, breedingetc. They had riding lessons and boarded too. I was very lucky because my older sister worked there..I was able @12 to trade work for a 1 hrs riding lesson. They made me work hard, I was green that's for sure...I learned so much hands on....I was so very lucky. After some time BLF had built a broodmare barn seaperate, from the main barn. Us young girls had the opportunity to stay up at night with the expecting broodmare(before technology) Once contractions we where to call our boss/owner who lived on the property too. Those nights I will never forget.. Her attitude was exactly as yours, let the mare be Unless absolutely necessary. In the 12 yrs I was there, we only had one emergency, and we lost the mare. It broke my heart. But unfortunately that is how nature works... Thank you for sharing..

Happy for the mare and goal, beautiful. However my mare would have lost her gorgeous foal if I had not been diligent and knowledgeable , knowing when she needed my help . Just saying sometimes a mid- wife helps and knowing when to step back and let things run their course 😉

She’s not living in “nature;” she’s living with humans. It’s good she delivered her foal safely, but it’s also good that if she had had difficulty, human help was available. “Nature” can be very cruel indeed. I’m thankful that human beings have devised many ways of improving upon “nature.”

Thank you so much for allowing nature to take it's course! I've seen sooo many foals ripped and pulled from their Mothers womb it's heartbreaking. Assist when necessary, otherwise, let nature take it's course no matter what the timeframe is. A maiden mare may take longer, but no trauma to mare or foal is best. Thank you for sharing the beautiful birth of your little ray of sunshine. Gives me faith there are people out there that truly care about their horses!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Yes, it is quite 2 different expressions of a very painful process.

Speak for yourself, please. I was in labour for 48 hours. I pushed for 13 of those and gave birth to a 10 pound baby boy. Plus and to add on to which, I was 9 day’s overdue. I didn’t make a peep…………but I do agree with you. Animals are strong………………❤❤❤

Not all animals. Watched a pretty noisy goat the other day. That aside I think birthing in the wilderness loudly could bring predators. I think it's a safety mechanism learned by instinct. They are in pain. Women are often more quiet at home ... funny about that.
