A Maasai giraffe giving birth at Masai mara national reserve.
first i got a call from a friend about this sighting close to our camp so it required 15 minutes only to reach her to find the birth just started with only the front two legs out.
it took one more hour to deliver the baby safely and let him touch the ground for first time.
it took another one more hour for the baby giraffe to stand after many unsuccessful tries.
I noticed that baby giraffes are not falling from high distance as i believed before! they come out slowly and the mothers only release them once they are very close to the ground!

The reasoning is that due to our evolved intelligence (causing increased head size) and us walking upright (narrowing the birth canal) humans have to be born very premature compared to other animals just so that the process is possible. The evolved intelligence is also why humans take to the age of 25 to reach full maturity. Our brains require a lot of time to grow.

Women sit when giving birth to. Animals and humans give birth in many different positions. Giraffe calves fall 6 ft to the ground anyway when born. I don't think gently, just barely sitting on them will hurt. And they are in a lot of pain when giving birth and the contractions and all. Imagine having to endure all that pain standing UP
