« The greatest arab poet » can’t possibly be given to Al Mutanabbi while the collection of Al Imam AsShafi’i exists. And I’d even say the one poem that beats every other is the poem of Ka’b Ibn Zuhair!

I dont like it when translators change or add things for the sake of clarifying. This changes the meaning, posture, etc. He never refer the lion as a subject that "bares his teeth". Careful here! Here is the correct translation: If you saw the lion's fangs protrusive; don't think the lion is smiling. Verbs tense, words' order, etc. as they are from the mouth of Al-Mutanabi. Tell me how clear this translation is.

Example of Arabic depth in this poem: The word the poet used for lion is ليث (layth), which is different from the more general word أسد (asad). The word ليث (layth) is for a lion who is flanking its prey.

A smiling predator is still a predator. When there are more bread pieces in the river than usual, fish who survived long enough know that fisherman is near. Predators try to trap you with bread on fish hook, with fake intentions, with a soft voice, with good looks, with befriending behaviour...with fake promises and with fake smiles. In short, snake is a snake even after it sheds its skin. In hindi, we say "insaan ki aadat badlija sakti hai insaan ki fitrat nahi"

He was one of the greatest poets, not the greatest Even experts would have a hard time to decied who would be at the top 10😅 Many poets before and after him were as great or even greater Poets like أصحاب المعلقات العشر/ جرير والفرزدق ... and many more, I can give you recommendations if you are interested These are at least as great as AlMutanabi's, in fact المعلقات are known to be one of the greatest poetries out there So yeah even Arabic scholars didn't classify AlMutanabi as the greatest, Arabic poetry is a competitive battle field we cant give our opinion of Arabic poetry as a well known fact when experts didn't even dare to say so Al Mutanabi is a great poets and in fact he is from the same tribe as I, but it's a very shallow of me to say he is the greatest when many great poets are there But surly he was one of the greatest🔥🔥 I enjoy all of their poets and THEY ARE ALL THE GREATEST🔥
