I believe that this was written by both Tuomas and Marko. This is actually not a Nightwish song. They wrote this for a finnish movie. They brought Jukka in on the drums. So Emppu and a lead female singer is not in this originally. i think this was written after Tarja and before Anette joined. So they didn't have a lead singer at that point. Then they brought it to the setlist with Floor on backing vocals.

Hey great to see and hear you again on a nightwish reaction! This song was actually written as a soundtrack for a Finnish movie. Marko is also on vocals in the original video clip (that also features scenes from the movie) so probably it was written for him to sing, although I also have heard wit a female singer I don’t know 🤷🏼‍♀️ maybe she sung more songs for the movie? Maybe this was after Tarja and before Annette, so marko was the only option, I don’t know but there probably will be a member of the army who will fill you in. There are songs that feature marko on lead vocals, like the islander, master passion greed, endlessness, high hopes.

If it's on your list for Nightwish, Song of Myself would be a good follow up to this. The version from Wacken 2013 is the best, and although the song was written for Annette, Floor delivers a great performance that showcases her vocal talent well. And it absolutely rocks 🤘 Hope one day you get to Marko's solo work and Tarot. There aren't many reactors picking it up, which is such a shame. The live performance of Star, sand and shadow from the solo tour at the start of 2020 is worth checking out, and not only shows Marko's talent off, but guitarist Tuomas Wainola too.

The Nightwish website clearly states that the song was written by Tuomas Holopainen and features him on keyboards, Marko Hietala on vocals and Jukka Nevalainen on drums. Marko is a quite amazing vocalist and artist in his own right; but it's kind of fun to think "he's so bad ass Floor Jansen is his backup vocalist". You should visit some of Marko's solo projects (recommend his song "Stones") & dig up his stuff from Tarot and The Northern Kings.
