The Most Important Angelina Video Out There | Angelina Jordan - I'm A Fool To Want You | REACTION

This is Rainbow Studio in Oslo. The musicians and conductor can be seen in the main recording space, on the other side of the glass, at the end of the video. (There are other similar videos where they are more noticeable.) Angelina, the drummer, and the marimba (?) player are in separate recording booths off the main room. The orchestra (technically, a c. 40-piece military band) was playing live as Angelina was singing. You can hear a "false start" (or possibly an intentional practice run) at the beginning of the video. Based on everything we have seen (in videos) and read (in articles) about these sessions, it appears that all of the tracks on the album ( _It's Magic_ ) were "recorded live" in this same way (as opposed to Angelina singing over prerecorded instrumental tracks). She sang on 13 out of the 16 tracks, with the other 3 being instrumentals. According to a rather lengthy article published shortly after the album was recorded, Angelina spent just two days in the studio recording with the musicians (to be specific, 2017-11-22 and 2017-11-23, interestingly a Wednesday and Thursday). This is supported by the fact that she appears to be wearing only two different outifts in all the videos we have where she's recording vocals. (BTW, this seems to be the only such video where some of the vocals we are watching her sing actually ended up on the album. Some of the other takes strike me as just practice run-throughs, because she doesn't seem to be as "into it" as she was here. But others might have been genuine attempts at a "final take" that just didn't work out.) If we weren't talking about Angelina Jordan, I would say it's sheer lunacy to think that an 11-year-old singer could record 13 album tracks "live" with a large military band in just two days. But since I know how good she was (and how much experience she'd had) at this point, I don't have a much of a problem with the idea. In another video shot in the studio control room, the album's producer and orchestrator (one of them, anyway) tells the camera, "Here's a little bit of what we're going to do this week", referring to a pile of at least 11 spiral-bound orchestral scores and what looks like at least 7 others in another pile that are perhaps just stapled together. (I think his use of the phrase "a little bit" might have been facetious.) Angelina is heard singing bits of "Can't Help Falling in Love" and when the camera pans around, we see that at least some of the musicians are with her in the large room. There's another video where Angelina thanks the band over the intercom from the control room, apparently on the final/second day of recording (consistent with what she's wearing); another where she is in the control room listening to playback of one of her original songs from the album; and one where she is alone in the mostly empty main recording space, playing the piano (not a song on the album), when she is suddenly interrupted by playback of one of the recordings for the album (so she starts playing and singing that song instead). This all seems to suggest that Angelina was invoved in the the entire recording process, and maybe some of the post production, as well. (That is, that she didn't simply show up to record her vocals and then leave.) In all, we have at least 8 videos shot in this studio during the making of the album and 5 videos of rehearsals in a different venue from before the album was recorded. (Not to be confused with 14 very similar rehearsal videos preparing for the album-release concert the following summer. And just for completeness, 4 videos from on or around her 12th birthday involving members of this same band.) OK, I'm finished.

about the fly me to the moon case, someone said it is a mix from rehersal and on stage. IF it is true, how sad that they cannot record well in rehersal or on stage. And how great that it still have those records can mix them up, so we have a change to enjoy her performane. It is "IF" only, but i dont think it is a mixed

This specific rehearsal is by far the best illustration of all the unique elements that Angelina has learned from her mentor, the great Billie Holiday. No one sang in the style Billie did and Angelina has been talented enough to be able to incorporate all that was Billie, which is perfectly brought forth here by our princess.

Have you reacted to her Always On My Mind? It was a tribute to her grandfather, who had just passed away and is very emotional, but she sings with no mic, just at home with Ivan on guitar, recorded either on a smart phone or camcorder. AB, I agree with your observation of Angelina's voice during this period in her life. After her new album "I'm Old Enough", I love it. However, I worry that Angelina would change her natural voice to sound more like the current Pop singers that have gotten Billboard's attention. In my opinion, Angelina is the Queen of Jazz in the world of Pop, She has established her place in the Jazz world as the future of Jazz.

I have said before I can't get over the way nothing seems to bother her or at least effect her singing while she is performing. I think one of the things I admire most about her is her willingness to put out the "imperfect" or rough copy of what she is singing knowing that it will not be her best or polished version. You have to have a certain mindset in life to be able to not be bothered by that or worry about what people may think. It takes a great deal of inner confidence to be able to do that. Hence: any time, any place, anywhere. The world is her audience her life is art and song.

Absolutely profound and scary. (She's totally boss in it.) Also, there is rehearsal footage (taken from a phone peeking through a fence) of "At Last" prior to her shows in Norway in 2022. You didn’t mention it, so I’m guessing that you didn’t realize this was a channeling of Billie Holiday’s classic rendering of this song. It’s Angelina’s tribute to her musical muse, and it’s just astonishing. AJ at 11 gives us Billie’s phrasing, vocal slides, and dynamics, but there are Angelina departures that we’ve heard since she was even younger than this. She gives us limitless textures that enhance the interpretation of the lyrics. It’s not better than Billie Holiday’s original because that type of comparison is impossible, but it’s a staggering achievement, even if Angelina pulls it off in her usual effortless, relaxed manner.

I agree with Boudy, less is more with AJ. For me, the newer pop stuff with background makes it fairer for everyone to compete with AJ, imo. I’d like to hear this in present day. This is fantastic! The raw sound is like I am in the room she is singing in. There is another video that sounds similiar. "If You Go Away. Try the version by Boris Pavenlovski. It says 'remixed' there is some room echo my guess is she recorded on her phone. It is extremely emotional, at the end it takes her a few seconds to come back and smile and say bye.

I'm glad you also appreciate this video for its raw integrity. But I have to say when I point this original video out, I get bombarded by alleged "ultra.Fans", who are really sycophants (psycho-fanatics) who attack you for discussing the rawness or any mistakes in a studio, or the process of turning it into something for the album, from the basic truth, as it REALLY is. These same people also really believe that a lot of the live in studio videos are really a one take full take item rather than being a piece and processed Live sounding, but not true live-live... They do not even want to know the truth about it let alone discuss it. Sad.

Dear RR. I appreciate your sadness, but ...! Think of it this way, if you like. I think Angelina is fearless - not like the rest of us - in more or less degree. No fear is god-like. On our different paths, inside, we long to be there too. Without her imperfections we could fall into the trap of 'blind worship'; meaning I think, that we'd lose our curiosity and humility (willing to learn) ... to be encouraged and joyful ... and so accordingly, grow, or move higher. I think she HAS to have flaws - to be one of us! But 'we' love her so much that naturally we can't believe she'd do that. For the record, two portions of this take were used in the final recording: from 1m46s to 1m55s (in the original video, not this reaction video) and from 2m14s to 3m2s. That's 9 and 48 seconds, respectively, for a total of 57 seconds of vocals that actually appear on the album _It's Magic_ (which is still available for purchase, BTW). That might not sound like much to some people, but personally I'm amazed we have _any_ footage of this kind. Rehearsals, sure… but from an actual recording session? That's crazy!

The first video was dubbed by a fan because in the original video you saw Angelina made a mistake in the text of the song but she didn't care she continued singing as if nothing had happened . One thing I really like about this video is that at the beginning when the music stats you can see Angelina immersing herself in the music with : " these little head movements", that she makes Angelina does this in several other videos like : The first Time I ever see your face, ...Have you noticed ?
