Thanks Boudy...would agree and probably most of the Angel's would agree that she is a superior Jazz artist, not many of them left to bring this great music back and introduce it to the masses...though absolutely believe it would be totally lost on current generations who are now programmed to listen to whatever MSM assaults their ears with. Do believe that there are millions of us older generations who appreciate real music and would absolutely die for something like that. Her Jazz album "It's Magic" from the 11 year old Angelina has always done well in the Jazz Genre of the music charts, and still does. Love the idea.

She did her great Jazz Album it's magic with a big band 🎀 at the age of 11 and a wonderful jazzy Christmas album with an All Star band last year with a lot of life performance from her online stream two years ago 🎉❤ But first we all long now for her new material with Toby Gad this Year 🙏🕊️

It was Angelina who got me interested in jazz. Before, they were just old songs to me, but she brought them to life and made them fresh. I would love for her to do a whole album - 60 minutes at least - of classic jazz standards as she would interpret them today, working with a top flight band. That would be incredible, but I guess she has to get the pop stuff out of the way first if she's to make a name for herself.

As you described, it happened to me with Angelina, I never listened to Jazz, other than the best known songs, I love Heavy and Rock, and one day by chance I came across a video of Angelina, and everything changed the way I feel. music, I automatically felt a musical revolution, Angelina introduced me to incredible artists and genres, returning to the video, I think in part, Angelina asks the pianist if I could lower a tone or half a tone, when she is rehearsing and I think that when her glances begin , it's because something sounds strange hahaha, it's as incredible as it is wonderful, thank you so much for the video and greetings from Argentina

The video provides interesting insight into how Angelina works. It is a rehearsal video with some of the members of the same band that performed with her in the BW version of I Put a Spell On You. Angelina is 9 yrs old and the spoken language is Norwegian - note that Angelina is positioned in the center and there are no vocal coaches or instructors in the room directing her - just her Mom who is just watching and listening, who you see briefly and her grandmother Mery is behind the camera - It is also possible that her Uncle Mike is there, but if he is he is not on camera. You will see that she is aware of what each musician is doing and communicates to them what she wants to do. There used to be a version of this video with English subtitles that appears the original subtitled post is no longer available - but here is a rough translation of what is going on. The first thing Angelina says is to start and then she wants to start over, later she tells the pianist that the key is too low and that she wants to raise it a half-tone, then at the end of the song she changes the ending on the fly. Very impressive skill for someone so young.

Although the video may say 7 years ago, that’s just the posting date. This would actually be from 2015 when Angelina was 9. You might find that with a lot of early Angelina videos. They are basically home movies taken by Grandma Mery who decided several years later. To post them to KZbin

And along the lines of what you were saying - my fantasy has been that once Angelina is established (based mainly on originals), she does themed cover albums. Angelina Sings the Blues. AJ Does Jazz. Angelina Bares her Soul. Angelina: The Gospel Album. How awesome would that be. Would sell gobs of records (ok, streams), and introduce SO many people to classic music of the past.

I can see that type of album happening someday but maybe not just yet. I’m sure a lot of fans would like that now but i think Angelina wants to be more than just a jazz singer. I think she wants a broader appeal. Yes she started with jazz and loves it and it gives her a unique style but since she was very young she was already doing other music besides jazz. After several years of success as a pop/rock singer Linda Ronstadt recorded albums of standards and Mariachi music. Pat Benatar made a blues album. Gloria Esteban made all Spanish albums. Angelina needs to expand her audience beyond us old timers to really be successful and sing for the world. I think after she has attracted some younger people, they may be more receptive to an all jazz album. Then she can do the more contemporary music she wants to do but also other styles.

This is Angelina during a jam session of Portrait of a Man and arranging the song as it goes! She is the boss but everything she said was more in the tone of a question as she is being respectful to the band! That is why they admire her so much! The ending is what puts it over the top, she goes from third person to first person and changes the ending! That is not the only song she has done that with! Hi Boudy. I loved your reactions and insights on this. So many people these days are fretting about the threat of AI to the music and other arts. What they seem to miss is the utter degradation of music in general over the last twenty years in general. With the advent of sequencers, synthesizers, automated mixing boards and DAWs so much of music has become formulaic and done simply to make money. Now with streaming much of the money is gone as well. This has played havoc with the music industry, but it has opened up the field as well. It has allowed new artists to gain access to listeners that would never have heard otherwise. One of these is Angelina Jordan through her YT and other social media offerings. One thing has not changed and that is the magic of hearing great music performed live and here Angelina shines even brighter. She has mastered so many different genres that I agree that an album of standards from her would be fantastic. The problem she and other rising talents face is how to break out to a wider public when a few superstars such as Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Adele etc. dominate media attention and promotion to the point of sucking all the remaining oxygen from the room. I don't deny these artists their due, but I miss the time when there were so many new artists coming up with such a wide variety of new music. Even youtube seems to fall into fads and ruts all too quickly, but still is our best avenue allow creativity to flourish. It's there but you just have to actively seek it out and not allow the "algorithm" to guide your viewing.

Here's a clip from a recording that was made of Trevor Nunn's 1992 live production of Porgy and Bess at Covent Garden . kzbin.info/www/bejne/hWiQgpRvZ7etmM0 .But the whole piece has both from the Jazz and Classical idiom. Gershwin knew how to combine them and make them mesh.

I agree with you although rather a jazz band than a big band. Whatever she does l hope she never discards her roots in jazz and blues for a purely pop identity.

AJ can do both the classic album and do her modern personal style albums and frankly almost any genre she wants. Why confine the greatest singing talent of a generation! Your idea of introducing classics to younger generations is preserving greatness. Like you said passing on the torch. Who better than her? Rod Stewart has made a career out of classic covers. Yet he has an earlier catalogue as solo and in groups. Angelina could also do a duet album which could be very appealing to a mass audience. Or add the duets to the classic album. How about Michael Buble?

Chris' original Enhanced version is gone, but fortunately there are reactions to it, so there is still access to the translation on it. At the start: It’s a bit low. Thanks for your commentary. FYI, the writing on the wall translates to “The Practice Hotel,” it’s a place where musicians can rent space for practicing instead of having their own space. Also, I agree with your album idea, but I think she needs to establish herself with her own sound and style before doing that. Otherwise, she may be pigeon holed as a classic jazz singer. I did note that in brief interview backstage at The Ivors, when asked what she first wrote, she mentioned Million Miles, but nothing earlier. That seems to me to be to focus on the (retro-)pop singer Angelina, not the jazz singer Angelina. Just a thought. 🎼🎶🖤🎵

Hi Boudy! This was entertaining and informative. But you are falling behind on current day Angelina. There are a few James Thiel videos from the February 29 concert out there. Now we have some soon to be released collaborations with Toby Gad there are getting a bunch of attention. James has some stuff on that as well.

How have you not reacted to Angelina’s recent content? She has hooked up with Toby Gad and they have re-recorded his song “If I were a Boy” made famous by Beyoncé. There are videos of them performing this song in LA and then twice in London. The single was released today. They also are writing and recording songs together with one “Bad Valentine” they also performed in LA and that will be released as a single soon. The score is in f minor which is a little low .2 half tones up would be more copasetic with her range..the group was reluctant to transpose because it was perhaps difficult to do so...there not exactly the proverbial studio wrecking crew

I disagree. These are some of the top jazz musicians in Norway. so I think they would have had no problem transposing. I think Angelina just wanted to sing it low. Think for instance of her cover of How Great Thou Art.
