@@rongray8416 ah yes that's right ...
@rockymac35653 жыл бұрын
@@rongray8416 Indeed, but lots of others were also looking at flying wing designs from the early days of aviation. Just as an example, the Westland Pterodactyl predated Northrop's work. There were even powered swept-wing tailless aircraft being tested before the FIRST World War, and gliders long before that!
@rongray84163 жыл бұрын
@@rockymac3565 Very true I just stuck with the easy to find flying wings as a lot of the others are scarce or hard to find info on. So the 229 and Northrop were easy examples
@rockymac35653 жыл бұрын
@@rongray8416 I agree, and I hope my post didn't come across as critical. Northrop in particular was not only an 'easy' example, it was an excellent one as Northrop's experience with flying wings ultimately led to the company's development of the B2 Spirit which is probably what most people these days think of when you mention a flying wing. P.S. I meant to compliment ScaleModelAircraft for another excellent build in my earlier post. Ooops!

Hey @Repo, are there any specific ill effects from using CA with lead? I may have some in a few of my tanks. I add weights to all of my models, usually small coins, but also spent air rifle bullets and offcuts of sheet lead in a few cases.
@xRepoUKx3 жыл бұрын
@@sirrathersplendid4825 I think it's more of a problem for aircraft than tanks as the lead oxide formed needs somewhere to expand to (and it's that expansion that bursts seams) but potentially it could affect any model where lead wire or sheet has been used to add detail via cables, tarps etc. www.ratomodeling.com.br/articles/lead_ca/lead_ca.html mikemonaco.wordpress.com/2010/04/14/the-heartbreak-of-lead-rot/

@@xRepoUKx - Thanks for the article link. Useful stuff! In railway modelling it’s quite common to use lead shot for weighting rolling stock. This is set in place with copious amounts of dilute PVA glue, covering it entirely. It appears that some PVAs contain vinegar which is a little alarming.

It said something to the effect, "... I forgot to put the weight in mine and it did a sort of balancing act on the main gears. Resolved it by drilling a hole in the underside and pouring in BBs and white glue. Worked fine but would have been a lot easier if I had done it right the first time! BTW, the E555 was never a real plane and never even made it to the design stage. It was merely a proposed concept considered by the RLM for their 'Amerikabomber' concept.
