This summer it met its demise. I tried to save it twice from mealy bug and it just couldn’t pull through. Beautiful plant but I probably won’t get my next one at the big box store!

@@ashleysaile9094 Thank you for taking the time to respond 😊🌟. I purchased mine from a big box store also. She’s had thrips and just kind of overall hasn’t been thriving. I just repotted her and w wry time I think I am just going to give her away, something keep me hanging on 🦋. Best to you!

Lovely plant, I just received a smaller one as a gift. I was looking to see how you prune them to keep it compact. I know it will be a little different look. Have you any ideas?

Such a great gift! Looking at my tree I can see where the growers made cuts at the base of the stump. Anytime you prune trees like that they tend to send out shoots. So if you do prune it I would imagine you would start seeing shoots from either side of the pruning spot. They are slow growing, I would estimate this tree to be a few years old. In the home environment where light conditions are not always ideal I imagine it would stay small for a good number of years! Hope this helps!

Thanks for this. I just picked one up about an hour ago at a different big box store. Mine is about half the size of yours and was $45. I didn't know anything about it but I liked the looks so much I was willing to take a chance and let it break my heart if it doesn't work out. I had a pot in mind for it but it's a deep narrow pot so it may not be a good match. I'm planning on summering it on my deck. Hope I can make it happy.

@@ashleysaile9094 I did some more research and found out the plant is toxic to pets and children. Love everything about the way it looks but I can't overwinter it indoors in MN where the cat can't access it. I returned it.

Thanks for the update! I don’t have pets and my kids stay away from my plants for the most part! Mine died this summer unfortunately! I wish plant companies would state if there is a toxicity issue on their labels.

I have one for 5 years. Let me tell you please don’t water this plant once or twice a week. I water mine every 6/8 weeks. This plant trunk can get rotten and most people overwater their plants don’t

Yes! Great tip! They do prefer humidity so definitely would benefit from misting during not watering. I had to give mine up due to mealy bug. It came in and I didn’t notice from the big box store. So sad to see it gone but glad to hear yours is doing so well!

I received one for a house warming gift four years ago. It suddenly started to yellow and drop leaves. I was in a nice non draining pot. I repotted it in a self watering pot because I thought I was overwatering it. It’s been happy and has grown a lot. So much that I need to repot in a larger pot.

First of all, Wu-tang ❤ Also, I now need this plant! I was considering the ming after seeing it recently in a store, but this one is beautiful. I'm definitely going to look for it.

Just a heads up-I noticed mine was sprayed when I brought it home, some of the leaves had white which probably should have been my first red flag. I fought off two rounds of a mealy bug invasion. It succumbed after losing most of its leaves after the second time. I probably will not buy from a big box store for these rare trees. The grower was in fl and I am in the northeast. Which means the tree has to travel in a truck pretty far. The other issue is once they arrive at the big box stores. They get crammed together in a small section, thus depleting air flow. I live Ming’s too and false Aralia is also beautiful. But this is the 2nd aralia that I couldn’t get right. And yes! Wu Tang 4ever!

Any advice for this plant in AZ? I've been letting it completely dry out... Should I be misting it?

Yes! Mist. Mist. Mist. These are native to subtropical regions so they need bright light and lots of humidity to thrive! You can let the top two inches dry out, the roots are better rootbound with no standing water left over!
