-- INTRODUCTION --
Enjoying the quiet summer months, we travelled across Japan to Miyakonojo and the Kirishima sankei region to visit one of the last wooden weapon workshop of Japan: “Aramaki Budogu Mokojo”.
The founder, master Aramaki the first, began manufacturing Bokken about a century ago, in 1921.
Like his grandfather and father, the grandson of the founder, Master Aramaki Yasuo, 66 years old, still perpetuates the tradition.

interesting, i am an artesan that makes bokkens in south america (venezuela) and i have the same problem finding good types of wood to made them, the timber that is more common to use is the amazonic algarrobo, that has a fine grain and good resistence to impact. and the Ipe. but those threes are protected cause are in danger of extinction.

Craftsmen face the same challenges everywhere. That's how we concluded the last part of the last interview with master Nidome, and we really believe it's important to support the craftsmen for this very reason, not because they're Japanese or whatever. Good luck with your work (feel free to share if you want to)!
