Like and subscribe if you haven’t already, it has a huge impact on the growth of this channel. CORRECTIONS & THINGS WE MISSED: 1. The inverted method is the same 210g of water. Not 200g. 2. The newest version of the regular AeroPress is cool grey with white lettering. Looks good. 3. I should have made this clearer but the regular version also only ships with the paddle, scoop and 100 filters.

One think I like to mention on Aeropress videos... if you get yourself a 2.5inch (63.6mm) circle-punch, of the sort that is often used for scrap booking, you can can make your own Aeropress filters! A single flat filter can usually get at least 4 Aeropress filters, and sometimes you can get a fifth by punching a half-circle on the edge and unfolding it. It's great too, because you can make Aeropress filters out of any premium pour over filter you prefer.

Always nice to get new material for Aeropress. I love the new flow cap and no longer use the Prismo that I formerly loved. Virtually no leakage using 2 metal filters--the Aeropress filter on top, and Altura Ultra to catch the super fines that pass thru the grit filter. These yield a cup with no visible mud and full of great flavor from my home roasts. Perhaps the extra filter gives the snug fit to prevent your leakage.

The accessories is across the board, so if you get the brown one now, you get the same as the clear. Less filters etc

I am getting the best results with fine grind settings (8-16 clicks on the Comandante), very gentle pouring, no stirring at all, and short steep times (0-90 secs). Very dark roasts can benefit from the bypass method. My dark Aeropress (latest model) works fine but shows plenty of pressure-induced strain marks, so it'd be great if the clear model's material was more durable. Not sure though if that's the case.

How about this; pour some water, add grounds, swirl, then add the rest of the water and use the agitation from pouring to skip the stirring (I don't live cleaning that thing)? I also have the brown/gold uglypress, so can't really see if that method does sufficient mixing of the grounds. Great video again by the way!

Thank Dany! And yeah this could work tbh. I wonder if the agitation would be sufficient or a longer steep time would be necessary. Will try the next time I brew with the AP.

If using the inversion method, any care taken by putting water in first and only stirring in a particular way will be ruined when the brewer is flipped at the end. The grounds will resettle any old way.
@aramse
@aramse Жыл бұрын
With both methods the grounds will settle randomly but since you’ve avoided pouring directly on to it and pushing the fines onto the paper more of the heavier particles can settle, preventing the fines from clogging. As I mentioned at the end, with the inverted method the reason you’re adding water first is to match the agitation you get with the Prismo method.

I find that the OEM flow control cap doesn’t leak when there are papers seated. At least until you start pressing, and then half the time coffee goes out sideways. I hate futzing with the inverted method, so I might need to grab the Prismo. Also might have to try water-first for a v60 switch brew this morning.

Hey Aramse, congratulations for this video about AeroPress. My first Aeropress lasts for about 10 or 12 years , and I bought the second one last year, so, unless a big mistake, I'm good for the next decade. I'm quite meh about the new strategy of AeroPress company, though the transparent one looks nice ;-)

There are some serious safety concerns around Tritan, specifically leeching of endocrine disrupting chemicals. Not really an upgrade over PP.

Plastics and food has always been a sketchy subject and like I mentioned in the video, I’m a skeptic when it comes to this. Could you share some details on these allegations against Tritan?
@MadisonRuppert
@MadisonRuppert Жыл бұрын
@@aramse there are a few studies, like Bittner, Yang and Stoner, “Estrogenic chemicals often leach from BPA-free plastic products that are replacements for BPA-containing polycarbonate products” or Sol Jang et al “Effect of chronic exposure to two components of Tritan copolyester on Daphnia magna, Moina macrocopa, and Oryzias latipes, and potential mechanisms of endocrine disruption using H295R cells” or Holmes et al. “Effect of common consumer washing methods on bisphenol A release in tritan drinking bottles.” I use an AP but still try to minimize plastics wherever possible. Any different plastic really isn’t an upgrade in my book. PP is also more widely studied so I’m a bit less concerned about using it compared to a proprietary formula like Tritan.

I've had the brown Aeropress for over a decade, found it much harder to get good brews out of the Clear. Maybe it's lack of skill on my part, but my impressions were that the new cap noticably obstructs flow (you have to press harder which leads to more astringency) and Tritan leeches and/or leaks heat from the brew water. Again, might be wrong about the exact cause, but most definitely found it hard to get as good brews out the Clear as I get out of the brown Aeropress.

@@teqai thank you for your reply. May I ask if they still sell the older version or would that be an ebay purchase? Is aeropress your daily. I have been using my Clever Dripper lately but before that I was using the "It's American Press" it is not a French Press but almost a French Press with a basket or chamber that holds the coffee and is zero bypass. I forgot how clean of a cup paper filters make. I have the Japanese cone brewer that does have a filter built in and let's the oils through and is silt free. Do you have other brewers? Do you happen to home roast? Lastly do you prefer light or dark roasts? If you have any suggestions, please tell me your thought. Thank you so very much for your reply.

@@kg-Whatthehelliseventhat They still sell the old version. I have the Hario Switch as well. I like lighter roasts and prefer the Switch using the "Devil's Brew Method" for that. I use the Aeropress for medium roasts or if I just want a fast and easy coffee. I don't roast. Between the Switch and the Aeropress, I think the brown Aeropress is the better brewer. It produces good, fast cups without much effort.

@aramse

The microbalance is decent for the price. Just make sure you get the wooden plate instead of the silicone one or ask if the thinker version. It’s quite sensitive to heat so if you’re brewing into a hot carafe the weight keeps going up on its own like a timer. Haha. We use a small wood square on top of the silicone mat which works fine.

@aramse
@aramse 10 ай бұрын
I mention this in the video. With the inverted method too you’re pouring water onto the grounds and displacing the bed when you flip the AP. 2 steps of agitation that are not present with our method and make a difference in the cup.
@BN99239
@BN99239 10 ай бұрын
@@aramse Ah, I am surprised that it would make a noticeable difference. I am interested in using the Prismo attachment but not sure if the single outlet hole would cause the water to channel through the coffee grounds more unevenly compared what comes with the aeropress.
@aramse
@aramse 10 ай бұрын
@@BN99239 pouring water onto coffee causes a lot agitation which will alter cup profile. You can do a quick test with the inverted method - brew one cup with coffee first then brew with water first and compare. You will notice the latter has less body and is a bit weaker so you’ll need to grinder finer to dial in to taste. Also with the Prismo the valve requires very little pressure to open and also the bed of coffee is not directly on the hole. There’s a gap between the mesh and the hole below. So it’s not going channel because of that.
@BN99239
@BN99239 10 ай бұрын
@@aramse What I tend to do is invert the aeropress, put the grounds in, then put a bit of hot water in, just enough to reach the level of the grounds, then I agitate it a bit, and then add the rest of the hot water in after and stir. I will try your method and see how it differs. Also, that's good to hear. I will give the Prismo a try as well!
