Possibly just to speed it up abit range shot is quicker then running n using melee n risking being hit by mage aswell

Yes to speed up the attack, but mainly to prevent the silver spider to recoil the veng back onto your character. It won't damage you if you range them 😊

It is if you use a ranging pot and turn on Rigour. Then just swap back to your crush weapon and put Piety on.
