@LeeThompson-pu6xf5 жыл бұрын
It was literally yesterday I was discussing how many brilliant horses K Abdullah has had and how lucky he'd been. I was a die hard Dancing Brave fan and he was really the first horse that sparked my interest in the sport. I would have argued to the end he was the best I'd seen, that was until Frankel came along and I had to sadly admit the great horse had been eclipsed by what was in my opinion a freak that has never and will never be rivaled. That said there are some fantastic horses in this list, Warning was a favourite from my early days, Rainbow Quest was such a sweet travelling horse and Zafonic was a monster on his Day. In recent years I think Kingman was probably under rated and would have given any horse on this list at least something to think about over a mile. Great list, great memories and here's hoping Enable wins another KG on Saturday.
@LeeThompson-pu6xf4 жыл бұрын
Sorry Kevin but that's a ridiculous argument. By that standard Dayjur, Pebbles, El Gran Senor, Nashwan and a hundred more who never won an Arc could not be considered greats? It's not the races you win but the standard and rating you achieve that should separate the greats from the rest. I understand people will argue otherwise, Red Rum was a great as was Best Mate but I could name a hundred better jump horses than these two over the last 50 years. I respect your opinion and I assure you I know my racing and for me Frankel was, and will be THE best for a lifetime past and future. Hope you're keeping safe.

@@jasonfox4857 don’t agree....Frankel had become such a superstar there was no need to test him especially given the size of the field and lottery of the draw in the Arc. Frankel’s performances in the Juddmonte against Fahyrr and St Nicholas Abbey where he was on a different planet going away at a canter against proven G1 winners and stayers...and then the way he glided past the world’s most proven soft going middle distance stayer in Cirrus Des Aigles, leaves me in no doubt. Frankel simply didn’t need to do any more, he trounced everything. Although I do admit that he may have been a risk at twelve furlongs earlier in his career but Sir Henry calmed him down and Queally was better able to hold him back...but that Juddmonte put the whole argument to bed.

Most of those horses had one or two great performance that marked them out as a great, for me for a long time Dancing Brave was Abdullah's best horse (even though in my opinion his Arc win wasn't his best performance as he beat the iron mare Triptych by much further in both that year's Eclipse & King George). Frankel's consistent brilliance at 2 (Royal Lodge), 3 (2000g, Sussex St & QE2) and 4 (Lockinge, Queen Anne St, Sussex St, Juddmonte) left me in no doubt that he is now the best horse Abdullah has owned (he even said it himself when asked) and for those who think he beat an average bunch of horses should remember he beat 23 individual G1 winners who had amassed 50 G1 wins in total - he had a cummulative winning distance of 76L. He was a freak of a horse which is borne out by his 11L Queen Anne win over 8 furlongs (for which he got his 147 Timeform rating) which saw him clocked at 10.58 sec for his third last furlong, which just so happened to be quicker than any of the sprinters achieved in the whole of the five furlong King’s Stand Stakes run on the same day.
