Looks well made, I did notice one of the spring loaded brushes was jammed when you first took the back cover off, I would try running it with just the front dust cover off, surprised like you there is no circlip stopping the con rod from floating off

The electric motor is good

Seems to be a good quality unit. Mine has been running fine since 2008 & now I know what's in it I have a better understanding of why they are so expensive.
@stevezodiac5755 ай бұрын
I did a quick spot of research, preliminary findings are: it seems the pre 2017 compressors didn't have the circlip / spring clip the later one do and also have a stronger cap screw to prevent shear. Apparently there is a repair kit available from ARB. Edit - I couldn't find and ARB compressor service kits listed for Australia, but the ARB website does say all parts are available as the units are assembled in Melbourne. In the US the service kit ALSO includes piston and cylinder and is Compressor Piston - Barrel Service Kit 320303. One on ebay US$ 54.66 but express postage is prohibitive. So suggest local ARB shop.

Very good

Check the motor commutator for anything shorting between pads. Could test the resistance of the windings while you are there. Try run the motor without the piston fitted.

There is no problem with the electric motor
@pauls47085 ай бұрын
do you run it as a compressor for inflatig tyres too or just a air locker. For a locker it woud come on for a second or two each time?.I have just intalled one of these.The exploded diagram does not show any kind of clip on the "con rod". A service kit for piston assembly is listed as 320303 .This is from a manual which is part 2102ma12 revised 14/11/2022 originally 2013.Interesting little video btw!

Just wondering the first plate you removed, it was threaded, would what threaded into was threaded in far enough to keep the bearing in place ? And regarding the grabbing as you rotate the the motor the magnets were changing poles ?
@Fourby4Diesel5 ай бұрын
No, it can’t touch the bearing as that is like the crankshaft going up and down needs clearance nothing is holding the big end just luck a bit of an idiot designed to be honest

Also a shim washer for the excess play on the conrod, if it's possibly has any slack in it..

There is a thermal fuse on the brush plate, if it’s blown you may need a new brush end cap.
@davemarcus86115 ай бұрын
There should be a circlip but there never was. NEW COMPRESSORS have a clip and you can get from ARB . I replaced the brush head and piston on mine. I had the same problem.
@davemarcus86115 ай бұрын
There is a thermal fuse that blew because the piston jams because of no circlip causes too muck current draw and damages the thermal cutout. Better to replace the brush plate as a complete unit.
@davemarcus86115 ай бұрын
Replace the piston as well as when the bearing is new the con rod does not move away from the crank. Regards Dave

Friction on the cylinder walls lack of lubricant? it getting bound up. Would be my guess the armature and brushes looked fine. Cracked solder joint on the positive or negative would be my next guess not loosing connection completely but enough while shaking to cause an issue

By the looks of it, I think the big and went sideways and jammed it up because it is a dumb design no clip by the look of the replies they fixed it in 2017. Perhaps we’ll continue more research and another video later.

Lack of compression due to the seal between the piston and cylinder? How does the compressor keep the pressure in the chamber?
@Fourby4Diesel5 ай бұрын
Compression isn’t the problem the motor wasn’t running
@lescampbell67455 ай бұрын
How much play in the gudgeon pin end of the con rod, that may be all that keeps the bearing aligned on the eccentric drive shaft if there is no circlip? Does the shat have a groove for a circlip?

See other replies apparently this is a dumb design and they fixed it in 2017

Try it with the pressure switch out of the circuit

The only way to find out how it operates is to disassemble and see what's broken. Hopefully nothing too serious. But usually money will fix it!!

What lubricates the bearings?
@stewatparkpark29335 ай бұрын
Air .
@Fourby4Diesel5 ай бұрын
The bearings on the end of the motor will be for the life of the compressor. Pray lubricated a little needle, roller bearings same story, but they were looking a bit dry, so I put some Greece on them could be part of the story.
@micksalau5 ай бұрын
@@Fourby4Diesel So, you put a little piece of a South Eastern European country on the needle rollers, yup, could be problematic.... Sorry mate, I just couldn't resist 😎
