Are these twin compressors really TWICE as good??? I do a killa stealth install into the rear quarter of my Y62 Patrol and then race it with the ARB single compressor.

Hey, I love what you did. I have done the same in my Nissan Patrol Y62, I have done almost the same arrangment. After 2 years, I decided to to remove it, and I mounte it in a customized box, that because it hard to access the compressor in case of failure, it happened twice to me, the first was the fuse blown up, the second was the negative cable lossen, in both cases I couldn't fix it onsite in the middle of the dessert (I used my freinds air compressor). Although I fixed it at home but it took me nearly 3 hours + to do so. The second reason is, Few time I needed to move the compressor to another car but I couldn't as it fixed in my car. Apart from those 2 reasons, the setup is perfect.

Great video mate, where did you get that mounting plate for the compressor from?

Hey Dash, Glad to see that you've used thicker cable (4awg?) instead of tapping into the circuit which you were originally considering ;). FYI, LifePo4 isn't ideal for high amp constant discharge, although i think Revolution batteries are specified to handle 160amp for a 120AH battery. But who wants to spend $2k on their batteries (no offence meant if you have ;) )

As others have pointed out, cables that size should be crimped but by the correct crimper. The proper crimp produces a "Cold Weld" of the copper strands and in a shape that can bend with vibration if seen under a microscope. There is a fair amount of Science involved in the reason for crimping. The tinned lugs you are using are designed to be crimped and then some Solder added to the inspection hole to seal it up against moisture. Of course, since this video is over 3 years old, you probably already know all of this by now.

I was the same as you soldering those big lugs, then I got a hydraulic crimper off ebay. Best thing ever!!! #makethechange

I need one of those!

Lots of arguments against soldering crimp connectors in a vehicle, the correct crimp tool for the correct crimp lug for the correct wire size will always win. The solder connection is not flexible and can crack when subjected to vibration. As berniebgj said, reasonable quality hydraulic crimpers are not too expensive from the auction site we know and love.

Hi mate about to install one myself in my gu when it comes in from arb as there’s a rush on them at the moment he explaind, I picked up on you saying you need to pick up bolts to fix it to the plate- could you please tell me the length & gauge of the bolts you used please as I’ll need to picked up them ready for the install. Chears👍

Hi dave, i think you should really consider re terminating the cable lugs, altough alot of people think that is okay to do, it couldnt be worse. The cable is a multistrand flex for a reason. A vehical is a vibrational invironment, solder creates a major fatigue joint, it doesnt alow the cable to flex as it should from vibrationals, there for over time it will just break strand after stand till there is a hot joint and starts acring. Soldering should never be done in a car.

I think you have convinced me 👍

Not if soldered correctly and proper mechanical support of the cable, that included mechanical terminations 😉

He's done a few things wrong here. Secondary batteries aren't designed for fast high draw, run your compressor off starter. They aren't my words that from Top Aussie red channels
@Bigorse914 жыл бұрын
If it does draw 80amps that's only for the duration of tyre inflation. 80amps per hour, you shouldn't be inflating tyres anymore than 10 minutes with that. You'll only use 15amps Max.

Great video mate! Look up 4wd evo, they do like a central inflation system that's digital. Can set the pressure to inflate or deflate tyres. And can do all 4 at once.

Is heat buildup going to be a problem with the compressor in there
@DASHOffRoad4 жыл бұрын
We will see, there is a vent there and it’s fan cooled
@MiniLuv-19844 жыл бұрын
@@DASHOffRoad For fan cooling to be effective, you need an inlet for cool air (you have this) and an outlet for the heated air. You could attach a 120mm 12V fan to the panel and connect it with the compressor. Also, its preferable to use the vise and crimp the connectors than that soldering debacle. If you must solder, you must tin the wire - just let a small amount of solder wick in - use fine solder if you need to and dip the end in flux paste. It won't add any size to the cable if done properly. Other than those little points, great job - very neat indeed. Can't wait for part 2.
