Terrific comparison. But how does the Leaf compare fit wise? Does it fit like the Atom, fit like the Proton, or neither?
@weekendgearguide
@weekendgearguide 7 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! The LEAF Atom LT Hoody Gen 2 fits a bit wider than the 2018 Atom LT Hoody in this review, for the same size small, mainly around the bottom hem and waist. The chest I would say is pretty much the same or a smidge wider but not as noticeable as on the bottom hem and waist. However, Arc’teryx significantly slimmed down the size small on Atom LTs newer than 2018 to the point that it can’t even fit me since it’s so tight. The 2018 Atom LT size small fit perfect where the LEAF Atom LT Hoody Gen 2 size small fit a bit too loose in the hem and waist but it was a good loose fit. For the Proton AR, LT and Proton FL, which are slim fitting, I had to size up to a size medium. For the Proton Heavyweight, I stayed my same size small and the fit across the bottom hem and waist are similarly loose like the LEAF Atom LT Hoody Gen 2. Cheers!

Hi. I reallyh appreciate the review. Do you still recommend the LEAF Atom LT hoody today in 2024? Or do you recommend other products for an everyday jacket? Thanks!

Amazing Review Sir! Quick question would you say that the Atom LT vs LEAF Atom LT fit the same? I hear that the LEAF version is a little roomier.
@weekendgearguide
@weekendgearguide 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The LEAF Atom LT is slightly roomier than the 2018 Atom LT and a lot more roomier than the revised 2020 Atom LT.

Might be hard to answer but how much more durable is the Atom LT LEAF vs the 2020 Atom LT? If durability is my primary concern should I just go with the Proton LT?
@weekendgearguide
@weekendgearguide 3 жыл бұрын
Generally, higher denier face fabric means higher durability, meaning the 30D face fabric on LEAF Atom LT Gen2 would be more durable than the 20D face fabric on both 2020 Atom LT and Proton LT. How much more durable I do not know, so it's best to call Arc'teryx to see if they can share that information.
@ponraul1221

The LEAF version of the Atom LT is higher denier and uses ripstop material. It’s definitely more durable than the standard version.

I’m a novice climber who enjoys camping/backpacking/hiking, mountain biking and snowboarding in Central PA but hope to move out to Colorado within the next 2 years. I’m looking for a good all-round insulated jacket and would love your opinion. Right now, I’m looking for something that would suit 60-20 Fahrenheit temperatures which would keep me doing the hobbies I enjoy until winter. This is my first time looking for an outdoors adventure jacket and given I have a dedicated snowboarding jacket, I’ve been considering the newer Proton FL or LT, LEAF Atom LT, and Patagonia nano air. For my needs, could you give me a suggestion as to which you think would suit me best? EDIT: I have a Canada Goose parka for colder temperatures and I just got a TNF thermoball (which I’m thinking of returning if one of these would be a better option) for camping/backpacking
@weekendgearguide
@weekendgearguide 3 жыл бұрын
Hello and thanks for watching. All the jackets mentioned will be too warm for the active part of the activities you mentioned when getting near the 60F of your range, with the Proton LT being the warmest. I would say the Proton FL would be more suited to those activities in that temperature range, followed by the LEAF Atom LT Gen 2. Note that if you added urban use to your criteria than the LEAF Atom LT Gen2 would be higher than the Proton FL due to being less technical looking and warmer for stationary conditions. The Patagonia Nano Air is good, but the face fabric is not as abrasion resistant for your backpack straps in comparison to the Proton FL and LEAF Atom LT Gen 2 face fabric.

Part 2 now available! Unfortunately not, but I can answer any questions you have on both jackets.
@Epitopi
@Epitopi 4 жыл бұрын
@@weekendgearguide I purchased the Strata jacket based on your positive review. It meets many of the 'must' criteria excepting the light weight-I prefer the non-hooded version. One difference I notice is that LT hoody is designed for warmer weather, whereas the Strata becomes sweltering above 15ºC. Would you say the same?
@weekendgearguide
@weekendgearguide 4 жыл бұрын
@@Epitopi Yes, the Strata does meet most of the Most Criteria but it's a much better value especially when on sale! If you purchased the non-hooded version, that helps lower the cost ever further for an already great value jacket. Regarding you question, I would say the same, especially if comparing to the LEAF Atom LT version, since the side panels do help release additional excess heat by the very nature of fleece, and no shell or lining to further impede the convection. Plus, the Strata was designed for Ice Climbing or other active winter activities where down jackets would fail, where the Atom LT is more of a Spring and Fall jacket but can extend a bit into warmer winters and fair better when indoors.

Thanks for watching and the question. It's one of my favorite jackets, depending on the weather conditions and activity. For everyday use during the late fall early winter, it will be the LEAF Atom LT. When it's windy and colder and I'm not doing anything too active, I love using the Patagonia DAS Light Hoody. For more active winter activities, I switch to either the Arc'teryx Practitioner AR or Rab VR Summit Jacket. Cheers!
