The Arc'teryx Beta jacket is best suited for wet and windy conditions, typically in temperatures ranging from 10°C (50°F) to -5°C (23°F).

Beta AR is nice but is just a shell with no insulation. I have this jacket and use it for packable weather protection. For Winter (in the UK), I use the Fission SV Jacket. Still Goretex-Pro but with insulation. Another nice jacket. Another favourite of mine is the Kole Down jacket, that's a nice casual. To mix it up on a cold day... Icebreaker Marino T-Shirt, Arc'teryx Covert Cardigan with Canada Goose Garson gilet and Beta AR if needed. Gamma MX pants. Nice.

Informative video but seems a waste including the Atom LT Hoody and the Atom LT Jacket. I do love the atom lt but honestly feel like it's abit redundant since the Proton LT came out, find myself always reaching for the proton instead of my atom nowadays.
@theknowlodge8294
@theknowlodge8294 4 жыл бұрын
The Proton is a better climbers jacket - but the Atom is still the best all-round piece. Especially since they make the side panels more wind resistant.
@scotthunter4

I have both. The Atom feels slightly more cosy to wear, like being enveloped in a warm cloud. I particularly like the fleece lined pockets.

I use the Atom LT as a middle layer, and each time I use it, I am amazed how warm it is for its weight. It's just a super comfortable jacket/mid layer. So for a shell - Beta AR, Alpha AR, or Zeta AR? I am going to buy one of these - any comments on the advantages or disadvantages of one vs the other? I ski a few times each winter, and I would use this then, so the hood needs to fit over my helmet covering my huge noggin. I'm also one of those guys that's kinda in between sizes; I'm an athletically built 5-10 205 with typical proportions, so sometimes an XL in some jackets gives me the shoulder room I need, but it fits like a tent, where the large might be tight in the shoulders and fit better in the torso. One more favor - a lightweight Arcteryx layer for use when riding my bike. I live in the Seattle area - we don't get a ton of rain, but we do get our share of drizzle with some wind. I am hoping to find a breathable jacket that is weather resistant but very breathable that I can use when riding my bike, a jacket that could possibly (not a requirement, though) double as an around town jacket. Trino? Squamish? Or...? Thanks in advance for your help!
@angus2248
@angus2248 4 жыл бұрын
Alpha AR should fit you a bit better. They are a little slimmer fit, and seem to taper down through the lower stomach and waist. I'm about the same height as you, similarly athletic, but weigh about 15-20lbs more and wear the Beta SV, so the alpha AR should do well.
@richarde1355
@richarde1355 4 жыл бұрын
@@angus2248 thanks! I suspect you wear the XL? I am torn between a large and an XL. I checked out the Zeta; that seems like an awesome option, too, but the hood isn’t cut to fit over helmets.

Thanks for making this video. What are your thoughts on Gamma LT jacket with hoody? I am planning to wear this daily (doing little to no activity and temps ranging from 3-5 degree celsius). And, when I am planning to go to extreme places then I would add another layer of atom lt jacket (without hoody).

@Daniel Rzehak agreed. I work nights outdoors and the atom lt hoodie has effectively limited my wardrobe to that jacket alone for work. I did have probably 5 or 6 different options I would choose from for temperatures and weather between 60 all the way down to the teens farenheit. Now I only need this jacket. No matter what its light, warm, breathable, can take everything but a downpour, and is insulative in high wind. If you do the math, then the price paid is equal to or less than the value of all those other items I had. And there's no switching them when temperatures rise and fall, or when weather moves in. It simplifies life which I value.
