PSA: We have never allowed paid sponsorships on our channel. We have also never allowed the device manufactures of the products we cover to pay us for production or release of any of our videos. Everything we've said in this video as always was completely in our own words covering our actual experiences using the device. I'll also say this: Comparing an officially licensed product against a pirated device like the Pandora's Box isn't fair to Arcade 1up or Capcom. We've covered products like the Pandora's Box on our show before and have always been consistently unimpressed with their performance.

How can you say this is better then owning a real arcade cabinet then ? Do you own an official Street Fighter 2 Arcade Cabinet to make that comparison?
@rerez6 жыл бұрын
We never include prices in our reviews because prices range from retailer to retailer. If after a few months the price gets discounted our review will be inaccurate. We always link the manufacturer or store we bought or received a product from in the description. In this case check out Arcade1up's website (listed in the description) for an updated list of places that sell them and current prices.
@rerez6 жыл бұрын
I didn't say it was better for everyone, I said it was personally better for myself. I love the original arcade cabinet and would REALLY like to own one. However I live in a smaller house with a narrow entranceway and small doorframe. There is no possible way for me to move it into our house. In addition to that the cost of an original cabinet (as of this reply) can be three or five times as much as the Arcade 1up model. The price ranges due to the condition of the units being sold. As an added perk you're getting three licensed games straight from Capcom instead of the typical one version from an official cabinet. This is an official Street Fighter product and not a custom build with stolen ROMs in it. I've managed free to play arcades at conventions and have worked with owners directly. I also have friends who own multiple arcade cabinets. Two of them own Street Fighter cabs and I've played them a bunch. I've helped them move the systems, repair them and clean them. I know exactly what goes into owning original Arcade machines and it's not a cheap prospect. I had to help with a screen that died on one of them and finding a non burnt image CRT was a challenge. Owning the original machines can be fun and rewarding but it can also be challenging and difficult. Arcade 1up machines are easier to own in every respect.

Being officially licensed by Capcom has nothing to do with the quality. Capcom officially licensed games on the Retrobit Generations and gamers would tend to agree that they were awful conversions. But it does seem like these arcade cabinets do a great job nonetheless. Personally I'd love the Rampage/gauntlet cabinet.

I think it's pretty amazing that this kind of thing is releasing these days. There are so many great arcade games that just can't be played legally anymore. At least not without spending a fortune on a cabinet, if you can even find the one you're looking for. Streetfighter isn't really my thing, but i'll definitely be seeing what else they have on offer! On my bucket list, for years i've had the project of building myself a full size arcade cabinet, for mame. I'll probably get it done at some point. For now i just have one of those fight sticks that is filled with games. But really, one of these might be a great idea! Most of all, to support the idea of arcade games being rereleased in some format. I love the prospect of that!
@BeerBellyDK6 жыл бұрын
Sigh.. Do you really think, that if i was concerned about that, that i would have one of those arcade sticks full of games, or that i would wan't to build myself a MAME cabinet? Geez... No, but what i WOULD like, is to support the developers of the games that i like, by actually buying them and owning them. You know, you're allowed to think, before you write a comment on the internet. :) Also, how do you know that it's a piece of junk? Are you familiar with the build quality? Do you have one? Have you tried one? Have you even seen one IRL? What is laughable, is when people talk crap about stuff that they really don't know anything about.
@BeerBellyDK6 жыл бұрын
I mentioned it because as a game collector, i would like to be able to actually own these games legally. I'm not concerned about having ROMs. I even built myself a PC inside an old NES, mainly for the purpose of emulating my sizeable retro video game collection, which is unfortunately packed away in storage, due to space constraints. I need my retro gaming fix. I just like to support the developers of my favorite games, and i like to own the games i play. Again, as a collector, i rarely sell anything, and selling illegal ROMs is just about the most stupid thing anyone could do. That is the sort of stuff that ruins the fun for the rest of us. But either way, i don't really care what you think. :) I think this conversation has run its course.

I like the concept, although I don't know whether I like the mini standup design vs a bartop or a full-size cabinet. That said, I would probably end up throwing in a Raspberry Pi or something and turning it into a full-blown emulation station if I bought one. There's always that balance between cost, effort, and the quality of the results that make an item like this "almost" appealing as an alternative to building a cabinet from scratch or buying a pre-cut wood kit.

I played it at EVO. There was some noticable input lag, nothing super crazy but it did prevent me from landing combos that I normally would on the CPS & CPS2 versions (even SF 30th Anniversary Collection is better). The sticks arent lined up correctly too. They are lined up with the punch buttons instead of being lined up between the punch and kick buttons. Also the buttons are trash. They feel nothing like original Happ concave buttons in terms of tension and are actually more stiff or harder to push. I wonder what under the panel looks like and if you can mod the buttons out with at least some Happ convex competition buttons. Still the input lag was too much for me to even care about buying 1 just to mod it.

@solofox94266 жыл бұрын
In my opinion the draw here is the light weight and the snap together Ikea style construction making it possible to sell these at a reasonable $300-$400. I just don't understand why they don't just have some full scale versions for the people that want them. What would it add? Maybe 20 pounds heavier? Hopefully if they sell well enough they will consider some other size options. I see they sell a stand to add height but Im sure that still won't make them look quite right due to the width and depth being wrong. I guess I will wait and see what else gets released from here on out, from this company or maybe another. I also would like to see cabinets with even more game options per unit.

One of the easiest and most cost effective arcade1up cabinets to do would be a red SNK NEO GEO MVS cabinet. You dont have to do just one either. They could release collection cabinets, ie you could do a metal slug cabinet, kof cabinet, fatal fury cabinet, samurai shodown (spirits) cabinet, aero fighters cabinet, etc. If you really want to grab the SNK fan's attention, create one called "SNK ARCADE CLASSICS VOL 2," and put about 20 legendary mvs games on there

@lchambers566 жыл бұрын
siamese605 Yes, high scores are saved and there is a one year warranty.
@FlameRat_YehLon6 жыл бұрын
My guess here. #1 would either be "no", or "yes if you soft shut down the game first then unplug the power". #2 likely won't be a problem at all, as I've seen Jubeat arcade here in China (the series in China was ended in 2012 I think, and in 2014 the online function was shut down) that are in great shape (except the buttons) even nowadays and thus if this thing dies (would probably take 5 years or so) you might even have to ask if the company is still around... But if it dies before the company disappears you likely can ask for a replacement screen, as they need to prepare some spare buttons and joysticks anyway (those likely won't last long), so why not also prepare some spare screen.
@siamese6056 жыл бұрын
Cool! Thanks for the replies! However I'm thinking beyond 1 year, say, like, 10 years + down the line. Soooooo, will replacement screens be available for purchase for those of us who are in it for the long haul? (Otherwise we have the same issue asthe originals with the CRT's and we all know displays today aren't built to last 40 years like CRT's did.)

High scores are not saved, I emailed the company about this. Also no way of adjusting dip switches (difficulty settings). I laugh at people mentioning screen maintenance cost of other cabinet types. Old arcades can be converted to HDMI or VGA and those monitors can be replaced if broken. I don't see arcade 1up having individual replacement monitors for sale, if they even exist a few years from now, not to mention the cpu inside. Buy with caution.

The screen looking weird at times is called screen tearing and it is because of using a jamma game on an lcd screen. Funny how it uses the start button to go back to the main menu. Anybody here ever heard of Pandora's Box? Same concept except pb has 500 games in it. Including these sf 2 games.

1. There are so many Pandora Box ripoffs that you can't even tell which one is the real. Shimmering is a scaling issue with lower resolution images composed of pixels being redrawn on higher resolution screens and not matching up. The other visual issue I mentioned was a single line of pixels at the top of the screen being delayed which is also not screen tearing as it remained consistent throughout play. You're welcome to check out our other reviews on the channel where we have looked at Pandora's Box hardware. Yes, you're getting 500 games but they're pirated and illegal. The emulation quality for all the games is completely random and unreliable. Arcade 1up worked with Capcom and got the rights to feature and use these games. That is a BIG difference.

Quantic A.I. I've had Pandora's box 3 pb 4 and pb 4s. The real ones are the ones that look like a small PlayStation 4. The others are cheap knockoffs. Another way you can tell the knockoffs is when you connect them to a jamma arcade there will be static on the screen, because Chinese jamma is wired differently then normal Jamma. Out of all the 500+ games on there, the capcom and neo geo games ran the best. Especially the street fighter games. All I'm saying is if you own an arcade cab and are into sf 2 and neo geo, then i highly recommend pandoras box 4s+.

It's true to its design lol. Arcade cabinets were made from the same cheap particle board with a vinyl/sticker on the wood as a "paint job" I dont get how people think Old Arcade cabinets were this massive work of art that used the best wood available lol because they didnt. They were made as cheap as possible in their day. You get either this little dinky cabinet or an original hulking cabinet wet, they both will be ruined because they both used Particle Board in their construction.
@otaking35825 жыл бұрын
@@Solmangrundy I would have to assume that they're sturdier than that, because otherwise pretty much every cabinet in America would be damaged. Think about the types of places where arcade games are located: laundromats, movie theaters, bars, Chuck E Cheeses, theme parks, bowling alleys, arcades that also sell food and drink, etc. All of those places are inhabited by mostly young people and allow liquids to get up close to these things. I wouldn't be surprised if someone accidentally kicked one or spilled their drink on one at least once a month.

Awesome review with great details although one thing I'd like to know is how did it feel when playing with another person in terms of spacing? Was their enough room despite the scaled down size? And in anyway did you have to both step a bit to the side while playing? Once again, great review!

Wow, how smug. For a lot of people, there's a lot more to a game than just the 1s and 0s, you know what I mean? Emulation is like diet soda. It's pretty close to the real thing, and it's good enough most of the time. But every now and again you want a full-sugar root beer float.

I played the crap out of the original machine back in the 90s and I don’t recall it sounding so “clicky” also the bat tops are way nicer than those crappy ball tops. Arcade Player/Arcade Stick Tinkerer first impressions: My local arcade had one of these. The buttons have microswitches but they feel kinda weird to me. Cheap chinese stuff. Like its microswitch but feels spongey at the same time. they dont feel as snappy and quick as Happ/iL buttons or responsive to the touch as Japanese buttons. A weird inbetween I've found in many knockoff chinese buttons. with both American Style and japanese style buttons, you can kinda slap your fingers down and easily activate them. while these a have a lil more resistance than need be. Trying to press and activate all punches or kicks for Zangeif could be difficult to do, trying to activate all the 3 buttons at the same time. tho throwing hadoukens and shoryus wasnt really a problem. they're usable and I think they're serviceable for people who arent playing arcades as much and you're just having fun with it but if you go in a lil harder and have a real feel for arcade parts, I have no doubts you'd wanna replace them. the sticks are ok(they feel like zippy joysticks, kinda a step below sanwa/seimitsu but useable). imo for someone like me this would be a get i could swap the sticks and buttons out (dont know how hard it would be without looking inside). but the inclusion of only 1 version of SFII that is inferior to Turbo Hyper Fighting (this version had better speed and the extra moves that would appear there on into the series) and regular Super (seriously why. no one really plays regular super, they play more Vanilla Turbo on Snes than Super -_-) means I probably wont be getting it. I like Super Turbo but the difficulty and announcer (dont forget Guiles "SAWNICK BUWM~" in that version) just make me not wanna play it as much as Turbo Hyper Fighting which I, and im sure many others, feel is the peak of SFII's early years. and its a shame its not here when it could've been so easy for them to do.

I read comments of people who really seem to be interested and I honestly can't understand. I loved the arcade when I was younger and I spent so many quarters playing my favorite games back in the day... but this looks so underwhelming. The size is sad and the cabinet lacks some wow factor. For anyone who is wondering, The cheapest price is $299 at Walmart and that is pickup only and it is only available in the US which kinda sucks for us brits
@JaySee56 жыл бұрын
Problems with this thing and your review: 1. The controllers are too close together. 2. CE and Super over Original and Turbo is an odd decision. 3. The joysticks in the US did *NOT* click. 4. The joysticks in the US used egg tops, not balls like Japan. 5. The joysticks in the US had a round interface vs the square interface in Japan. You totally failed to mention which interface this has. It's a big deal. The round interface makes circle motions easier, but trickier to get corners for diagonal jumping and crouch blocking. The square interface makes circle motions more difficult, but corners are easy to find especially for dragon punch motions. If you're going to limit the machine to 3 games, they should be the most competitive and popular: Street Fighter II, Street Fighter II Turbo, Super Street Fighter II Turbo. Champion Edition and Super are the red-headed step-children.
@Solmangrundy6 жыл бұрын
Idk if you've been around the country but SF2CE arcade cabinets are like the most common cabinet you can find in America. That's my guess as to why they went with it, wider nostalgia audience that will recognize the game/cabinet design. And if you wanted full sized controls then why not buy a full sized machine instead of a Scaled Down one that no-duh is gonna have scaled down controls. And if you would've spent the extra $100 for better controls, you will spend it anyway buying those better controls to mod it. Its priced and built to attract a wide audience. An intro machine into the hobby, not some $1000 turbo-nerd machine for elitists.

Very cool, would like to see the display light up at the top just like the original arcade machines. Also needed is a headphone input, HDMI out, ability to change the screen display and some tinkering with the game play etc. I spent many enjoyable hours playing arcade cabinets when I was a kid back in the 70s and onwards. I'm still a gamer at heart and get my old school kicks playing MAME. I have been thinking about picking up one of these arcade cabinets or something similar ;)

@twicethemegapower39956 жыл бұрын
I think every jabroni that says using some basic box to emulate arcade games has never played a real arcade cab. Pandoras Box, Retro Pi, Mame, Jamma ect are only good for 8 bit emulation (and the audio is still garbage no matter what). If that trash emulation was as good as everyone wishes it was, there wouldn't be a market for companies to make a far more authentic experience for arcarde at home. It's one thing when your at a bar, drinking and playing some multi-jamma machine for $0.25 a pop, but when you want a real arcade experience at home mame gets annoying real fast
