Since this was posted, Régine, whose parents fled Haiti during the Duvalier regime, founded a Haitian aid organisation called Fondation KANPE. Means loosely "stand up" in Haitian Creole. Wonderful org- I volunteer for them. They work in the Central Plateau villages and you can find out more at kanpe.org.
