When I first heard this song I thought it was repetitive and way too long. But the more I listened, the more I realized that it was an absolute masterpiece. It rises, it falls, it changes, it transforms. It gets quiet and it gets loud, and if you put headphones on you can hear every little sound and vocal that just add to this incredible experience. I can't always get the hate from people towards this whole album. This album is the definition of what one of the best bands in world should do - pioneering, experimenting and innovating! The infusion of 70s,80s disco, electronica, dance punk (yah! when you know James Murphy was on the main producers list), twisted synthesizing and also the core of Arcade Fire themselves together with their long-standing interpretations of aesthetics, life and death. This was one of their best works, in fact, all 4 LPs were equally brilliant to me.

It is a very well done song, the structure, the production, reflektor really isn’t a bad album at all I think people just don’t like the change in style and their attempts to dull down their musics intent to a more commercially radio friendly pop audience. It is understandable that this would polarize fans, a lot who were more into their first 3 more indie rock albums but The Suburbs really made the band blow up and start to change, that’s what happens in the music industry

Arcade Fire seems to be one of the few modern bands David Bowie 'adopted' and reflected his ideals/artistry. I sincerely think that if he were to live on in anyone's music outside of his own, it would be Arcade Fire's. He loved them so much and they lost a mentor today. I think what makes this song/video brilliant is that its constantly building, building, creating more and more tension, building but never really quite gets resolved and I admire that they dont ever really spell out a meaning or explain anything in any way. modern day abstract art in music and video done effortlessly

This song is prolific as it is deep. I feel endless soundscapes, and what this song has meant for me over the years continues to unfold while *CONNECTING* together the previous meanings; it’s literally changing my reality. And yet, it was always like this, like when I was a kid. The notion I ever felt separated from this experience… a reflection. I believe I do.. see you on the other side.

There are songs that transport you to certain memories, and this one takes me back to seeing them live with my ex girlfriend, who I was in a relationship with for almost 9 years. We were both a little drunk and the lights flashed all around us as she grabbed my face and said “it’s just a reflektor” while I looked into her half closed eyes. The music was loud, but perfectly loud. We both seemed to know this would be our last concert together, and we enjoyed it to the fullest.

Me and my ex been together for 6 years. Exactly one week before our break up, we went to see them live. The entire setlist was so emotional (At the moment I didn't figure out why, then I understand it many months after) Afterlife, Reflektor, We Don't Deserve Love... But The Suburbs Continued was heartbreaking. I sang her 'If I could have it back, all the time that we wasted... You know I will love wasting again, wasting again, again, again and again..." while we both started crying. When I look back at that time of my life I feel so grateful for having her by my side for a long, long time. We shared so many beutiful moments and memories (Some of them are the bests that I've ever had.) I miss her every damn day, and when I listen to Arcade Fire it feels like home, you know? Its like we are still at that place, and we always be... (My english is a work in progress. Hope you are ok)

Such a spectacular album to revisit, in full, and be reminded of how this album's intensity so mirrored my own at this time in life. Thank you Arcade Fire!

MERCI!

I heard this song while I was on a bus in Israel on my way to the train station. I was not expecting David Bowie to just show up and I squealed with delight. I have been a Bowie fan ever since I was a little girl 💜

Just from what I've heard on the radio, over the last couple of years, I've slowly become a fan of Arcade Fire. My only complaint is that I didn't become one a lot sooner.

About Bowie participation, from Wikipedia: Richard Reed Parry noted, "It was just after The Next Day had come out. He basically just came by the studio in New York while we were mixing, just to have a listen to the stuff we were doing. He offered to lend us his services because he really liked the song. In fact, he basically threatened us - he was like, 'If you don't hurry up and mix this song, I might just steal it from you!' So we thought, well why don't we go one better, why don't you sing on our version? Thankfully he obliged, and we were really happy about that."

That quote makes it sound like the band weren't fans, didn't want him on, sad, thang is son, Bowie was dying of cancer, was on his mind, he would've featured his voice for free on any poppy piece of crap just to be nice and leave more of himself in this world, could be wrong, but hell, if Bowie asked to be on my song I'd have him sing more than 1 super short line more than 2 times. But hopefully the quote is just the dude bragging, meaning he is a fan.

John Razimus Why on earth would you interpret a quote like that so cynically. Like holy shit obviously its a joke, anyone with a dayjob of music is going to be honoured to feature david bowie in their music but you have to understand its mutual respect and David was probably honoured to have a part in it.

SW, you're an idiot. I'm a real Bowie fan, you're a bandwagon hot topic fan only after-death. Does your middle name start with J by any chance? LOL
@Alex-td8cg7 жыл бұрын
John Razimus could you back up your reasoning for that please? Because it looks like to me that you just can't come up with an actual argument so just took to hurling unfounded insults. LOL
