Another great classic game. After watching a few of your videos I got bit by the retro-gaming bug big-time. Now I've got just about every game on the entire Old Classic Retro Gaming playlists loaded onto a Super Retro-cade and it's a blast! Thanks and keep the classic games coming, Semper Fi!

Brings back many memories. The bar in our tiny Minnesota town used to let us teenagers hang out in the back room, which was the "game room", and play this game (my all-time high score was something like 125,000 before they removed the machine and put something else in its place) , along with Space Invaders, Donkey Kong, Asteroids, Pac-Man, Defender, and the best pinball machine ever, Silverball Mania. This was the early 1980s, and all the games were the full-size arcade machines. We figured out how to cheat the Donkey Kong game. You could lift out the front glass and reach down inside to the coin mechanism and use your finger to cycle a lever that registered as a coin being inserted. We got hundreds of free games until the game owner got wise and screwed the front glass in place. Also, we got so good at Silverball Mania that we could get almost unlimited free games (without any cheating or tricks) just by hitting all the targets and then sending the ball around the loop in the middle of the game. Once you had hit all the targets, then every third time around the loop won a free game. One time, the game owner walked in to service the machines and we had 99 credits (the most free games you could get) on the display. He reset the machine to only allow max 10 credits that day. That day made us lose interest in the game because it wasn't as good as before, and also some of our faith in humanity. Good times though, the carefree days of youth.

Oh God, memories... thank you poster. This was the very first arcade videogame I've played. I was seven or eight, spent hours on it. 1 play cost was the equivalent of 5 euro cents at that time. The arcade audio was faaar better than in this video anyway (probably emulation problem?), especially the shooting sounds. Note that you were able to shoot enemy bullets, a feature not found in many similar shooters that allowed "complex" tactical defences (for the time :) )

It's a chunkier version of Galaxian, but it seems deadlier. The aliens unleash their bombs in a quick and tricky cluster that accelerates on the way downwards, and your ship inches closer to the armada with each wave destroyed. And I like how the final alien morphs into a demonic boss. The sound effects are pretty cool, too. Some science fiction blip-bloop and a couple of others that remind me of jet fighters passing over. Nice!

And this reminds me of Galaxian on Atari 8-bit systems.

So this didn't come out before Galaxian did it? I just looked up Galaxian and it says October of 79 in Japan and it didn't come out in US until December. So I guess it's possible. Universal wouldn't have had long to copy it and get it on the market...unless they had previews of each other's games (which I doubt) or there were corporate spies involved.
