hey guys nice episode!, one thing you guys overlooked were the impact of the amazingly quirky Atari games: Paperboy, Marble Madness, Toobin', S.T.U.N. Runner, Pit Fighter, etc.. Paperboy in particular i remember was the first game other than Spy Hunter cockpit that you actually had to stand in line to wait to play at the arcades, and Pit Fighter when it came out i remember the day i walked into the arcade and saw a crowd of kids staring in amazement huddled around a game and when i made my way up the the game i was absolutely stunned by the digitized graphics, no one had ever seen anything like this at that time and even though it didn't play very well it really set the precedent for both SFII & Mortal Kombat.

While the Atari games were amazing (I spend a fortune on S.T.U.N. Runner and A.P.B. they didn't "Change The Game" just really great game design.

Great podcasts. 2 Technical comments: A> The sound levels of the title song and the discussion are not the same. After listening LOUD song you listen to a quiet discussion and then you are hit with a LOUD song. Please make the levels the same (just turn the song down a several clicks). B> The multiple cameras are great, but please calibrate them (or set filters) so they are the same colors. Switching cameras show's the lack of calibration. One camera is darker and redder. Please fix. One Arcade/Museum question: Is is possible to put volume knobs (or even headphone jacks) on the arcade machines? It decreases the enjoyment of the games when you are near a game with an extremely loud attract mode and you're trying enjoy a quieter game. I've been to a couple of Arcade/Museum and I haven't seen this option.

Great podcast. The first video game to feature background music was Rally-X, which was released in 1980. Also, what about Daytona USA, linking them up to play, 8 people at once. Also, Jarvis first master piece Defender, over 55,000 sold.

I played that xmen with the second screen being CRT reflected in a mirror to get it to line up perfectly on the original widescreen arcade.

I think Pit Fighter was influential. it was the first, IIRC, game that used mocap for the characters. Then came Mortal Combat and the others. Another laser disc game I remember is MACH 3. Fun game.

One you missed is when talking about pac-man is pac-land. First full platformer that would lead to super mario bros and mario would bring videos games out of the crash! Pac-land walked so mario can run! Also isn't warlords from 1980 the first 4 player game? Funny thing about narc is max force and big man are part of the kids cartoon power team from the show video power a captain N rip-off. Yes, narc in a kids cartoon.

Talking about game censorship have you ever heard the of the video nasty moral panic in the uk during the 80s
@ElectricStarshipArcade9 ай бұрын
Actually yes! But not until a couple of years ago when I watched horror movie called Censor. That was the first time I heard the term “Video Nasty”. In the states we usually refer to them as “B horror movies”. I used to watch lot of these lower grade horror movies back in the 80s with my grandfather.
