Altered Beast honestly gets slagged off unfairly, likely because it was a pack in game for the Megadrive before Sonic. Altered Beast is honestly a hidden gem. 2 player coop Kung Fu Master, but you can turn into beasts? Who wouldn't want to play that! Plus the Megadrive version is the best version because of the cheat mode where you can choose what beast you want to be on each level, so of course you just use the dragon every stage lol.

Strangely, I loved Altered Beast on pc engine (although never beat it. Was hard!) And HATED Golden Axe on Speccy. Too fast and twitchy controls. Interesting to hear different views. 😊
@djgeneralbounce14 күн бұрын
I really liked Golden Axe on the Speccy. I'm just a sucker for the ZX Sega arcade ports though, because most were closer to the arcade versions than Sega's own Master System ports.

It was nice to see an Alien Syndrome I didn't know existed on the Wii. Those transformation CG clips are the best part of that "modern" PS2 Altered Beast (which is possibly also "retro" by now? I don't know, I'm old) Happy weekend everyone !

You've summed up how I felt about Italia 90. I don't even like football and I truly can't stand that game but as a young kid I frequently found myself playing it whenever I was incredibly bored. It didn't follow most of the key rules of football - penalties, cards and extra time didn't exist in that game which made every match exactly 10 minutes long. So I'd play one match then ask myself why. It felt more like a C64 game than a modern 16 bit title so it was interesting that it did actually get an official 8 bit micro conversion. The C64 version is weirdly enjoyable because it felt more at home on there. Sega truly rinsed that game though, it was on almost every official compilation cart and eventually just got rebranded as "Sega Soccer" on the later ones so pretty much everyone who owned a Mega Drive ended up playing it at least once.

SEGA needs to get in touch with Digital Eclipse (or another reliable developer) & put out a game compilation similar to "Atari 50". SEGA has such a vast library of games to choose from & we need updated ports of many of these games for modern consoles, along with some history from the creators behind them. From SEGA's unique vector arcade games to many consoles games for the SEGA CD, Saturn, Dreamcast, many of these games have been forgotten & need a new lease on life.
@davidepalombo21413 ай бұрын
Hi Kim! nice video but to be honest the c64 version has the final level with Death Adder and also the ending sequence like the arcade. Maybe you played the first tape release of the game that, for unknown reasons, was distribuited without the last level (that's not happened with the disc version).. if you look for a c64 longplay you can see it 🙂

I saved for about a year to get my mega drive, then I had to save for another month and then wait 30 days for special reserve to ship my first game so I had only altered beast for a couple of months. I hated it, but I played it every day anyway!

Wait. This Sega Channel. That sounds highly advanced for the mid to late 90's. Did it download the games onto a proprietary cartridge via your TV? It's way too early for streaming. I'm confused lol

Also I have to defend Spectrum Altered Beast... I played it long after playing the Sega console versions and I found it the most playable version. It still wasn't great but technically it was amazing. The problem with it was the same as every other port, its just a very shallow game.

I always disliked the Mega Drive version of Golden Axe as it felt like I had to be pixel-perfect when attacking enemies and they could swing from seemingly anywhere and make contact, it was a lot like the first Streets of Rage in that regard. These days if I want to play Golden Axe I play the arcade version.
